Synopsis
THERE IS MATURE CONTENT IN THIS STORY!! The worlds of the merfolk and "humans" were separated, after an unfortunate accident that cost the life of a mother. The king had been in such a saddened state that he had put up a barrier that forced merfolk to be blocked away from humans. Of course, few merfolk didn't like the idea, while most did, as they didn't see the downside of the idea. One of the very few which were uncertain what they want, was a mermaid known as FlutterShy, her mother was the one to have died. Now, the daughter of the women who had passed at the hands of humans, should hate the people above. Shouldn't she? Well, she didn't, and that may be due to her kind nature, many would say she is naive, others would say she's smart, some would even consider her both. Though, somehow she'll find her way past the barrier. How? You'll have to wait and see...

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

FlutterShy had currently been resting in her room, upon her shell-like bed. She had a golden necklace around her neck, holding the locket in her dainty hand as she looked at a photo of her mother. She looked at the photo for a while before hearing the door open, peeking up and seeing it was her sister, Rainbow Dash, the athletic older sister.

She would close the locket and let it go "what's wrong Rainbow?" She would ask, her rosy pink hair floating around her naturally. "It's nothing serious, just an argument with dad" she seemed even more concerned then she already was, so swimming over to the female with rainbow hair.

"What was the argument about?" She clearly had concern in her cyan eyes, and the female with rainbow hair would smile, she's thankful to have such a good sister. Then, Dash would sigh as she rubbed the back of her neck "I may or may not have asked dad if I could join the guards, the Wonder-Bolts" then FlutterShy would gasp.

"They... go out to make sure things are safe, they fight, and they get supplies! Rainbow Dash that's a dangerous job" then Rainbow would take her sister's hands in hers "Relax Fluts! Dad said no, though I'm not gonna stop." Rainbow would swim past her sister, looking out the window towards the surface "I will eventually protect this kingdom!" FlutterShy was truly thankful for her sister but she's sometimes very risky.

FlutterShy would make her way towards her sister "Um... I don't like the idea but if it's something you really want to do... I'll help you" she would mutter out, Rainbow Dash a bit shocked as those words. "Seriously?!" FlutterShy would give a nod and Rainbow would smile, then suddenly the door opened again, and there stood the youngest sister, Scootaloo.

"Rainbow Dash!" The little one would swim towards her sister with the rainbow hair, giving her a hug, and Rainbow would return that hug. "So, how did it go?!" Scootaloo would ask, her eyes lit up with hope but Rainbow Dash would turn her head away, rubbing the back of her neck "well, you see..." FlutterShy then suddenly spoke up "Dad did say no, but we'll make sure he says yes soon, right Scoots?" The Female with rosy pink hair would ask, smiling.

Scootaloo was upset, but only for a moment, before she'd begin to light up again "yeah! Rainbow Dash will join the Wonder-Bolts and be the best guard!" And Rainbow would laugh "yeah, I'll be the best!" She then lifts the little girl, around 9 years old, and spins her, causing both to laugh. "now, let's get to bed and we'll all go to Dad in the morning tomorrow, alright Scoots?" And Scootaloo gave a nod "yeah! Let's do it!" FlutterShy would smile as she watched Rainbow put the little girl in bed.

It didn't take long for Scootaloo to fall asleep, "hey, you gonna come to bed?" Rainbow would ask FlutterShy. "Oh... Yeah, I'll get to bed in a bit, you just rest... We have a big day tomorrow" the female gave Dash a meek smile, who was about to ask what was wrong, but FlutterShy seemed to become distracted, she'll ask tomorrow.

"Alright, night!" Rainbow made her way to her own bed, covering up as she soon fell asleep, leaving FlutterShy to be the only one awake. She'd sit on her windowsill, there wasn't any glass blocking her path of course, but she was just gonna sit there, she needed to calm herself down before resting, she's been having odd dreams. She'd lean her head back against the window, her eyes shutting as she was thinking back to when her mother was alive, and before Scootaloo had been born, when she and Rainbow were young, she was younger then the female, and they were both so little, she was around 5 while her sister was 8.

She was playing with Rainbow Dash, they were playing a harmless game and it was about time for them to sleep, then their parents came in. Their father told them a story, and FlutterShy had a few questions, but they needed to sleep, so their mother, the Queen came over to FlutterShy's bed, sitting in between the two and cuddling them close, singing a lullaby to them, a new one.

"Where the north wind meets the sea

There's a place full of memory

Sleep, my darling, safe and sound

For in this place all is found"

The Queen would run her finger up and down Dash's little nose, and it didn't take long for the girl to fall asleep. FlutterShy and her mother would giggle quietly, and while her mother continued to sing, she would bring Rainbow back to her bed.

"In her cave, deep and true

Lie the answers and a path for you

Go down deep into her sound

But not too far, or you'll fall down"

The Queen swam back over to the girl with rosy pink hair, lifting the little mermaid into her arms and swimming to the window. The naive little one would giggle and place a hand on her mother's cheek, while she's dipped only slightly in the grasp.

"Yes, she will sing to those who hear

And in her song all magic flows

But can you brave what you most fear

Can you face what this place knows"

"Where the north wind meets the sea

There's a mother full of memory

Come, my darling, homeward bound

When all is lost, then all is found"

Finally, the little mermaid fell asleep in her mother's warm hold, leant against her chest "sleep my darling, you have a long path ahead of you..." she would whisper. Planting a gentle kiss on the girl's head, soon making her way to that bed now "You have a long journey ahead of you, but it will all end well..." she'd smile, before covering FlutterShy with her blanket, then making her way out of the room.

Now, we were back with present FlutterShy, who had hummed along with the memory of this odd lullaby, which will make sense in due time. She then opened her eyes, finally at peace as she swam over to her bed "I miss you mother..." she'd mutter out as she took hold of the locket, before covering herself up and falling into a slumber, a weak grip upon the locket still.
