We continues to bring water into the sheltered area and filled the emergency well inside with the clean water hoping to be a bit prepared for the storm. The animals continued to seem to disappear and the scouts complained about not being able to find any to supply food. I told them to goo towards the west where there was a fresh water flowing stream.
Finally on the day prior to the storm a order to fill the wells was given and with close to 400 people by the end of the day we managed to fill most of the water supplies. What scared me the most was the orders sent out at dinner time. It basically said that two beasts had been spotted at the bottom of the lake.
With the coming storm the Commander was positive that these beasts preferred nights and wetness to hunt and so they would come to the surface. Since they lived in the very bottom when they surfaced they might stir up sediment making their poisons circulate and contaminate the water.
He believed this would give us a very great opportunity to acquire a giant or even a new empire gem. With a second gem our great kingdom would never be threatened by any other and could even allow us to unite all the kingdoms as one. He tried to motivate us all to do our best in the upcoming night.
It was as my father feared that if any kingdom acquired a new empire gem, war would come and many would die for another's wants and greed. The others within this very team had probably been told to try to the the gem if found a fight to the death might start even within this group itself. It could cause us all to perish, Eric and her had also secret worked toward stopping this from happening.
Our father asked us to relay information to him and it possible steal and destroy or if not possible, hide any acquired. This might be our only chance of preventing a kingdom wide war. What had united them against a common enemy so long ago the threat of the beasts, now had become a hope of their ancestors to try to and acquire it all.
He and mother were part of a organization that work within all the kingdoms to prevent future warfare. This organization called No Beast was organized upon the original combining of the kingdoms by the kings themselves to prevent future destruction. It all started from one specific hidden guard, who was to build this defense so no kingdom would gain dominance and destroy the others.
We had became a part long ago at the age of 12 and had taken the oath and became part of her parents core group. Most of us did not know about other groups and were only contactable via hidden message holes. How ever does one go about doing this mission was unknown and very dangerous.
That night the storm struck hard and the lake raised higher and higher, the winds, thunder and lightning left us blind to any incoming dangers. We were told to sleep and take turns at watch throughout the night but the ferocity of the storm keep us up most of the night. The thunder and lightning let up a little at the break of what should have been dawn.
No light showed through the thick black clouds and the heavy rains still reduced visibility to less then a few feet in front of us. The Commander decided to send out a few scouts to see how high the water had risen and if any beast had appeared as well. Two hours later they still had not returned and there temperature continued to drop.
At what should have been noon it was still as dark as a moonless night and no sounds come through louder then the rain and wind would permit. Are brave commander asked us to get geared up and prepared, he and his advisors felt that information was needed so a small unit would go outside.
By using full armor and moving in a large group chances of obtaining information would be greatly improved. In addition each unit would extend out ward in ordered fashion so no one could get loss as well. My unit was assigned this great honor to get first chance at attacking our newest prey.
Goldy wanted to be as close to Eric back as she could get but he forbid it and sent me into the middle of our unit of parties. A hundred of us would venture into that rain and black cloud dimmed reality to search for our enemies. Sea animal based use to the dark, cold and wet surfaces would definitely have a huge advantage.
We had only gone about 200 feet towards the lake when the front reported that the water had risen to that point on land. Another day of constant rain could bring it to the front of our cave dwelling. That's just what we needed to evacuate in these conditions or drown like rats in a locked barrel of water.
Eric passed on the command to move slowly back towards the cave, and so we started back when suddenly our rear guards were attacked. In less then five minutes we were broken into various groups that could barely hear the others getting attacked. Goldy found herself with 2 mages, one spearman and a swordsman.
We could hear low sounds of screams and roars but not which direction they were coming from. Like idiots we were standing there waiting for rescue. So I asked the lone swordsman to lead us towards camp and the spearman to watch our back. In addition I told the two mages to prep light spell and shield for the swordsman while I did the same for the spearman.
If anything I figured that they wouldn't like bright lights and hopefully it would scare them and give us a chance if attacked. Just as we saw some people in front of us they were attacked and most of my group crumbled and scattered. Only the spearman stayed by my side as I raced towards the fighting.
I saw a huge form rise upward with many people trying to fight back but it was to dark I blasted the towering form with a lava blast directed towards its middle. I got lucky and managed to struck its head when it ducked downward to eat its prey. The bright light and sudden pain scared it into dropping the man and it turned back into the darkness.
