Chapter 1 - 1 A dead child comes crawling.

Nightmare hunted her dreams of blood and screams, of two legged walking beast ripping her people to spreads. Pulling out their heart gems as if they had less worth then even food for their bellies. Only their gems meant any thing, someone screamed for her to run as she turned blazing pain ripped into her chest. A blast of energy sent both of them flying deep into the woods and the memories locked, themselves away.

The child awake but felt so terrible she could hardly move but force herself through until she manage to sit up swaying slightly and trembling from the pain. She was covered in so much blood one could not tell the color of her skin let alone hair only her golden eyes shone brightly.

The sound of water twinkling from the right side could be heard and since her thirst was so great she tried to stand but her chest sprayed blood and she fell unconscious from just trying. The decaying body nearby she did not even see.

When she awoke a wolf was smelling her body and licking her wounds, she asked with a series of motions and soft sounds for it to help her get fresh water. The wolf gentle grabbed hold of her leather shirt then pulled her slowly to the nearby stream. She passed out instantly from the first pull.

She was awoke with a splattering of water dropped on her face, a gift from the wolf, then it continued on its way. Slowly she inched to the water edge, slurping it into her dry and clogged blood filled throat. Within just a few seconds it hit her stomach hard and forced her to throw up the dried blood and dirt from within.

As she slipped once more into blackness a bright light flared near the outside edge of her heart. Shortly after most of the bleeding was stopped, her broken arm and leg bones realigned and then the light faded once again.

When she woke again she found it was dark and the wolf lay beside her keeping her warm against the cold of night and the stream itself. This time she didn't feel quite as bad her most of the vomit little as it, was had gone down the stream and none remained.

Once again she moved upward a little and this time managed to drank a few mouthful of water and kept it down then fell asleep again. The wolf pulled her back a little from the stream edge so her head would not continue to get wet then curled around the small body again.

As she slept once again the light shone softly this time healing her organs and internal injuries would take time. Finally when she woke she felt so much better that she could even cup water to drank. A group of deer, chipmunks, and rabbits sipped water nearby. Once again using their signs and sounds she asked for help once again.

Soon they brought clover, sweet grass, nuts, mushrooms and grains for her to eat and she thanked them each and bid them farewell. Forcing herself to eat slowly her food and bundled the rest under a log nearby she waited for a little energy to return.

Finally she managed to drank her fill and eat till her stomach was full and rested the day through in the warm sun. As night neared her wolf dropped into her lap a small fish from the stream but warned her of trouble coming back.

She ate the fish raw and manage to struggle to her feet entering the stream she went downstream, as the wolf suggested to find her kind not far away. Each step became heavier but fear had entered her head and body forcing her onward. She didn't feel the slow drops of blood that marked her path.

Finally, she saw a tall rock wall in the distance and waded out of the stream trying to force herself to go faster but barely able to go step by step. She came to a small path leading towards it and the walking eased but she had started to bleed more and she could hear the sound of the corrupted yelping louder in the distance.

She did not know if her life would bleed out, or if they would find her before she got to her people once again. She had a quick flash of another's face and a feeling of happiness but it faded quickly going away almost as fast as her blood fell.

Just as the high rock wall came into view she heard a howl then claws racked her back and she fell. The guards in the tower saw the girl just a few seconds before a corrupted beast sprung forth to strike her back. In went instantly into attack mode.

Their arrows dipped in poison with hooked tips struck fast and deep making the creature scream and twist, springing back into the safety of the woods. The bell was rung and the troops organized, mages came running and the captain received a report for the first time in twenty years.

The wall had been built and the barrier formation rose over two hundreds years before. Only large attack forces sent in twice a year entered to harvest for the gems that gave them magic. And those few were supported by the four kingdoms.

Even then half returned dead, the remainder with many strange and terrifying tales. The gems going to the Kings to distribute out to those who were the deserving. Their farthest most area from the kingdom of the Wind had only received one small gem each year to help to defend the walls.

Now for the first time the bell for a human and beast finding had been rung which meant they would open the door to rescue and kill if lucky anything nonhuman as a bonus. One dead beast could get them a gem without the Kings help. Something they desperately needed due to there new management being a little to greedy.

Fifty solders, twenty mages and thirty archers standing upon the wall slowly filed through the single wood door. Shields raised, spears and swords at the ready they filed into proper order, quiet as ghosts. A mage with staff safely guarded on all sides a small carved gem within useful for about a year before their power died away if in use. Some might last much longer and if not used, potentially even forever.

Each sword, spear and even some arrows were equipped with a tiny fragment allowing for stronger and faster strikes. Once they assembled outside the door they went slowly step by step forward towards a small bloody figure.

As they approached it and started to surround it, a cot carrier approached the small figure to remove it to safety. That's when the beast tried to attack again and the battle began. for real. The archers shot the beast in the back whenever there was a chance, poisoned arrows mostly bouncing off but some slowing the attacker. The infantry in front were knocked and stomped almost flat on the ground.

Luckily the swordsmen and the captain stopped it forward jump. Piercing it with close to thirty sword thrust, mage blasts hit its face with a few lucky ones even skidding into its open mouth. Blue black blood sprayed out burning any skin it came in contact with. Luckily most wore full armor and the mages cast cure poison on the crowd affected hoping to ease the burning infectious blood.

Spearmen chanted and activated their gems then cast and stabbed into the beast hide from the sides. These acted as explosives strikes blasting out chunks of flesh, the beast whipped a three spike tipped tail at its sides and took out many. However, the shear large number of attackers were taking a toll making it roar in anger and rage.

The cot carriers were grabbing and carrying as quickly as they could, the injured into the doctors office. Of coarse the first to arrive was the blood soaked little girl who he was quick to declare dead. He told his aid to place her in his office.

On her appearance came many more so he told them to place the rest of the dead to the morgue and the living most wounded we're to go in first. The rest would have to be treated outside because he soon would be without any room.
