"You are a smart one. But you owe me a favor, and I will decide when you will return it."
Nathalia exclaimed softly, eyes-wide-open, "I beg your pardon? I don't owe you anything. I never asked you to help me."
A favor!
"I don't do anything for free." He said playfully.
"What do you mean?" Nathalia was annoyed. This is completely unfair. It's ridiculous.
Seeing her lose her calmness, Spencer was somehow delighted and had a sudden desire to kiss her. He did without thinking, a gentle peck on her cheek.
"What the hell? Spencer Davidson! How could you?" Nathalia screamed in surprise, her cheeks reddened.
He did it again! What's wrong with him? We were just arguing! Why did he kiss me?!
This is totally unacceptable. He just kisses me whenever he wants?!
Everyone looked, following her scream, all shocked.
Evette couldn't believe it. "What are you doing?"
Spencer simply took the opportunity, grabbed Nathalia into his arms, and kissed her again. "Kissing, can't you see?"
He loved the way he felt next to her. Peaceful and free. It was a feeling that he had never had with anyone else.
The spectators were watching, astounded, but Spencer seemed to only see Nathalia and no one else.
Nathalia was so embarrassed and helpless that she stepped on his foot, trying to stop him. "What are you doing? Don't be ridiculous!" Spencer had no intention to dodge. It didn't seem to hurt either. He chuckled and said, "I like that." as he gave her a playful wink. "Nathalia, don't forget you are my girlfriend."
Girlfriend? Is he crazy? Is he actually serious?
It struck Nathalia like lightning.
But I don't want to be his girlfriend. He's not my type at all!
Kelly was shocked, but more with anger. She walked close to Spencer and questioned him, "Spencer, what did you say?!"
In the past years, Kelly had worked so hard to be the woman that could deserve Spencer. She finished her business administration degree at Harvard, and, going against her father's wishes, she accepted the job as a secretary for Spencer.
What did Spencer do in return?
He remained the same, changing girls regularly, ignoring her, or the efforts she made.
But, she loved him, ever since she was little.
Evette refused to accept it. She shook her head and kept telling herself, "It's impossible! It can't be true." Then she remembered the incident at the jewel shop and at her mother's birthday party. She had totally forgotten or ignored it because she believed Nathalia was not the type of girl that Spencer liked.
But now, they are kissing!
Nathalia is nothing compared to me! Why does he like her instead? Why?
Spencer paid no attention to any of them. He took out a credit card and gave it to Nathalia, "Here, Nathalia, whatever you want." He smiled at her sweetly.
Nathalia was irritated by his nonsense. What is he thinking? I'm not naïve. I don't believe in love at first sight. It's impossible that he's fallen in love with me. He must be doing it on purpose.
"Spencer, are you serious? What's wrong with you? Look at her! There's nothing good about her." Evette barked at Spencer and pointed at Nathalia, having finally realized what was actually happening.
What Evette said definitely didn't help her clear up the rumors about how she treated Nathalia, but on the contrary, proved them true. She was apparently insulting Nathalia in public.
Spencer kept Nathalia in his arms despite the fact that Nathalia was struggling to free herself. He looked at Evette and said calmly, "It's none of your business."
Seeing Nathalia in Spencer's arms and the way Spencer spoke to her made Evette lose control. "She's plain. She's got no taste. She's good at nothing." She yelled as she stared at Nathalia with resentment.
"Spencer, don't you see it?! I'm way better looking than her, smarter than her. Everything about me is better than her! Choose me, please, and I assure you that you won't ever regret it." She looked at Spencer confidently.
"Tee-hee," Nathalia couldn't help laughing out. The whole scene was ridiculous.
The crowd was all laughing at Evette. She is indeed vain and brainless.
Evette glared at Nathalia. "What are you laughing about?" then turned to Spencer, "Spencer, look at her. She's mean, disrespectful, selfish..."
She used all the words she could think of to insult Nathalia. How she wished she could make Nathalia disappear forever!
I'm the beautiful swan that everyone adores. She's just an ugly duckling. Does Spencer choose her over me?! I won't accept this. I won't.
Spencer waited till Evette stopped and said casually, "Sounds familiar. Isn't that what the media said about you?"
It stung Evette, and she stuttered, "What? But... No...what do you mean? But...anyway, you can't be with her. She's pretentious."
Spencer didn't even listen to Evette but kept his eyes on Nathalia.
Outraged, Evette threatened Nathalia. "If you dare agree to be his girlfriend, I will kick you out of our house and never allow you to come back!"
What the hell?! She's outrageous. The spectators were shocked by Evette's ruthlessness.
"Slap," the bodyguard's hand came fast and unexpectedly on Evette's face and left a bright red mark on it. She stared at the guy and then at Spencer, shocked, hurt, embarrassed as she clutched her cheek, tears welling in her eyes.
"Why? Spencer, you let him hit me? Why?"
Spencer shrugged his shoulders and said indifferently, "Sorry, when he sees someone annoying, he has to give them a warning."
Evette came near to a breakdown. She could never comprehend why the guy she adored treated her like that. "Spencer, why can't you see who's the right one for you?! Open up your eyes, look! Why? Why?"
Nathalia felt much better, seeing Evette getting slapped. She'd stopped resenting being in Spencer's arms but even felt grateful.
Spencer sensed her changes. He smiled at her and said cheerfully, "Come on, Nathalia, let's go get a coffee." His smile looked enchantingly delightful.
Nathalia didn't resist but let him guide her in his arms.
Is he just acting? I can't really tell. But it feels safe in his arms. Nathalia wondered.
They looked just like a perfect couple, like a yin and yang together, balancing each other.
