Evette could not bear seeing the two of them looking intimate at all. The thought of them being together enraged her immensely.
Irritated, Spencer frowned and stepped backward while cuddling Nathalia, to avoid the possible physical contact from Evette. Evette watched and hated Nathalia for it even more.
"But..." Nathalia knew Evette had finally started playing her games, and she was happy to play along. "But Spencer and I have a date. Why don't you go home first, and I will see you later?"
Evette didn't even listen to Nathalia. She fixed her eyes on Spencer, adoring him. "Spencer, would you like to go to mine? My parents would love to meet you." Evette said imploringly and even blushed.
Spencer sneered and turned to Nathalia to ask her opinion, "Nathalia, what do you think?" he said gently.
How annoying she is! Why the hell should I go to your place? I've got nothing to do with you. Spencer thought of Evette irritatingly.
Evette didn't understand what Spencer was implying, and instead, she forced a smile on her face and said to Nathalia, "Nathalia, please, ask Spencer to go."
Nathalia replied with a smile and agreed, "Alright, let's go then."
If she wants to play, then why not play along? Can't let her down, can I?
When they arrived, Anne was seated in the living room, watching TV, looking bright and cheerful. She didn't look sick at all.
She greeted Spencer enthusiastically, but Spencer remained cold and distant. Though politely, he asked, "Mrs. Carter, I heard you are not feeling well. Would you like me to get you a doctor to check on you?"
Anne was puzzled for a second, then looked at Evette and understood. You silly girl didn't even give me a heads up. At least call me to let me know first.
Evette pouted her lips helplessly. I didn't have the chance to tell you in advance. He's here anyway, which is the most important.
Anne laughed awkwardly. "It's unnecessary—just an old issue. You know, it just comes and goes. I feel much better now, especially seeing you."
Hearing so, Spencer stood up, took Nathalia's hand, and was about to say goodbye. "Now that you are fine. Nathalia and I shall have our date then."
Immediately, Evette bounced up to stop them. "No. You can't go. I mean you are here anyway, why not stay and have dinner? Please? I'm very good at cooking. Stay, and I shall make you a nice meal, please."
She begged and pleaded for a good few minutes, with Anne's help, to finally get Spencer to change his mind.
Then the bell rang, and soon a guy walked in. Evette exclaimed excitedly, "Nathalia, it's your favorite man, Ben."
It was apparent that Ben had made an effort to look extraordinarily smart. Sharp black suit, shining leather shoes, clean shaved face.
He kept his eyes on Nathalia as he walked in like she was the only one that existed in the room. Affection and love shone on his face. He had even prepared a present for her, a box in his hands.
Nathalia found it fake and even disgusting. Didn't I make him walk out of the house last time? How can he pretend as if nothing had happened? Shameless.
Since the last time Ben met Nathalia, he had been sending her presents with notes of sweet words attached. Nathalia had ignored him, taunted him, but Ben carried on patiently.
The more affectionate he showed, the more disgusted she felt, and the more she wanted to mock him. Yet, disappointingly, he still paid his visit every week.
He has definitely reached peak shamelessness.
Evette continued, "Ben, I wish you could see yourself, how you look at Nathalia. So affectionate. You can make people jealous easily." She laughed as she commented.
It was obvious that she was implying there was something between Nathalia and Ben. Too obvious.
Anne shook her head slightly in disapproval and disappointment, thinking Silly girl. You got to have patience. It's too obvious.
Nathalia grabbed a packet of crisps on the table, opened it, and shared it with Spencer. Casually, she said to Evette, "There's no need to be jealous, Evette, if you like him, take him."
Evette was shocked. She was grinding her teeth in anger. As she took a glance at Spencer and saw how calm he remained, she grew more outraged. "Nathalia, he's the man you love. I can't take him from you."
However, neither Nathalia nor Spencer made any response. Nathalia crunched the crisps like she didn't hear anything while Spencer watched her adoringly, amused.
Evette felt like she had just thrown a punch at a bag of cotton wool. A waste of energy and emotion. And she had to suppress her anger.
Anne patted on Evette's shoulder lightly and shook her head slightly. Evette took a few deep breaths to stay calm while Ben stood there, his face twisted, looking extremely embarrassed and bitter.
To break the awkward silence, Anne smiled and said, "Ben, please take a seat. You know I've spoiled Nathalia too much. She's not behaving her best today. Forgive her, please. Come, sit, please."
Evette would not give up. As soon as she thought of an idea, she had to try it out, so she went on, "Mum, of course, Ben won't blame Nathalia. He adores her. Everyone knows that."
The three of them managed to make a conversation flow for a bit, mainly consisted of comments on how Ben loved and cared for Nathalia and how well they got along.
Spencer was speechless. He knew they were trying to drive a wedge between Nathalia and him and pitied them for playing such an obvious and stupid trick.
Noticing that Spencer wasn't paying any attention, Evette turned to Spencer and said intentionally, "You know, Ben is Nathalia's tutor. He's been so good to her, and Nathalia likes him a lot."
Surely he won't like that. Why is he calm? Perhaps he doesn't really care for Nathalia?!
Anne was also confused, unsure of what the two were thinking. How come both of them are so calm? This is not normal.
Then she winked at Ben secretively to suggest him, to move on. Ben took the hint and gently he said to Nathalia, "Nathalia, I've got you a little treat. It's from your favorite place, Wendy's Chocolates." He smiled and looked at Nathalia fondly.
Ben tried his best to show affection, though he felt helpless. Every time he saw Nathalia, he felt like there was nothing he could do to get close to her. She had been so cold and aloof to him like she had no feelings, no emotions.
But now she's got a boyfriend! And it's Spencer Davidson. It's just beyond anyone's comprehension.
Evette exclaimed, "Wow, Ben, you are so thoughtful. Nathalia, aren't you pleased? I'm so jealous of you. You two are just so sweet!"
Nathalia chucked the empty packet into the bin, cleaned her mouth and hands with tissue, and said, "I'm hungry. Shall we have dinner now?"
The three of them were utterly amazed. She has not even listened to any of us!
