Curt Davidson, Spencer's father, did use to take Nancy to all sorts of events, and Nancy had taken the initiative to present herself as Mrs. Davidson. People would usually show her respect.
However, she had known not to cross the line, or to be exact, and it was Curt that knew. As long as Spencer was present, Nancy would not show up so as to avoid conflicts; thus, the past years had been seemingly peaceful between the two parties.
It was very likely since Spencer's mother returned to Miami from Europe. Nancy had not attended any events. She was a mistress at the end of the day, and when the wife showed up, of course, she had to hide.
And that was probably the reason why she grew jealous and insecure.
All this time, she had been spoiled, enjoying the luxury and attention, but then she had to retreat reluctantly. She must have found it difficult to accept the change.
