Bella met Dan halfway down the hallway and extended the hairpin to him, "Here it is."
Dan looked at her for a second and then down at the hairpin but didn't say a word as he took the hairpin from her and stuffed it in his pocket.
He would really have loved to let her know he had seen her taking it from the table, but he also didn't want her to feel too embarrassed or feel like he was constantly monitoring her activities. He wanted to be able to observe all her movements without her knowledge, just the way he had done earlier.
"Yes? Is there something you want?" Dan asked when Bella remained standing in front of him without making any move to leave his path.
"Yes. Uhm, about my twin sister..."
"Yeah? What about her?"
"You can meet her only on one condition," Bella said thoughtfully.
"What? Please don't tell me I have to pay before I can see her?" Dan asked sarcastically.
