After leaving Dan's office, Bella walked up to the secretary's desk as instructed, but not without looking around the office premises first. She had missed checking it out because she had been too nervous, thinking she was going to be interviewed by a reasonable person.
She nodded her head in approval as she surveyed her environment. She had to admit that whoever had handled the interior decoration of the company had done a really good job of it.
The colors on the wall, the paintings, and the furnitures were well blended together, giving the office a very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere, unlike those in most offices, which were always in contrast.
Her interest in the office decor probably had to do with her love for art and how well she knew how to combine colors.
When she was satisfied with looking around the office, she decided to return to the secretary's desk. She briefly observed the beautiful middle-aged secretary as she just kept typing on the keyboard in front of her.
"Hello! I'm back again," Bella greeted the lady with a polite smile.
"You! I see you're out already, so how did your interview go?" The secretary asked with a friendly smile. Bella seemed like a very lively and cheerful young man, and she liked him.
"I got the job!" Bella said with a really happy smile. Saying those words gave her a sense of great joy even though she was going to be working for someone she had no iota of respect for.
She had waited for so long to be able to say those words out loud to someone else, and she couldn't wait to tell her family the good news.
The secretary looked at Bella with polite curiosity, "Congratulations, even though I don't understand your job description yet. Am I going to be losing my job to you?" She asked, the smile not leaving her face.
Bella returned the smile as she wondered why someone as beautiful and as polite as the secretary was, working for someone as irresponsible as Dan Williams.
"I don't think so. Mr. Williams says you should fill me in on his schedule for the week," Bella informed her.
The secretary's brow shot up as she observed Bella closely, was she really about to lose her job to the young man?
"Excuse me for a minute. I need to have a little talk with Mr. Williams for clarity's sake," She told Bella before going over to Dan's office.
"Please don't tell me I have to attend another meeting. Or is there a problem?" Dan asked the moment she walked into his office.
"I'm sorry, sir..."
"I've told you several times. You can't call me that, Catherine. I'm not my father," Dan said, shaking his head at her disapprovingly.
Catherine Reilly had been his father's secretary for over two decades, and she had practically watched him grow into the young man he was.
"Is that why you're trying to get a new secretary? Because you're not your father, and you think I'm too old to work for you?" Cathy asked as she adjusted her glasses on the bridge of her nose.
"A new secretary? Christ! No. Of course not! I wouldn't do that to you," Dan said, standing up from his seat to approach her.
"I'm only trying to find a balance between my career and the job here. I need Ben to help me keep up with my schedules," Dan explained when she just kept staring at him with narrowed eyes.
"You're sure about that?" She asked with uncertainty.
"Yes. So please just fill him in on all he needs to know about my schedule. I have to run along now," Dan said with a smile as he led her out of the office.
"But you still have a meeting to attend," Cathy reminded him.
"At this rate, I'm going to die before my father, and then he will have no choice but to return to resume his duties," Dan complained.
Cathy hit his arm, "Don't say stupid things like that! What do you want your fans to do when they hear that?" She chided him.
"You're my fan? I thought you loved my father more than you love me," Dan said, and Cathy giggled.
"That's nonsense. Who wouldn't love a screen god such as yourself?" Cathy asked, rolling her eyes.
Bella turned when she heard their voices and saw him leading his secretary out. Both of them had a smile on their faces.
The smile on Dan's face cleared when he turned to look at her, "I will have my driver wait for you outside," He told her before turning to Cathy once more.
"Please help me make him useful," He pleaded one more time and walked away when she simply gave him a nod and smiled at him.
Bella watched him leave with a scowl on her face. What did he mean by that? Did she ever tell him she was useless? She thought with a frown.
She turned around to see the secretary eyeing her suspiciously, "That is no way to look at your boss," Cathy said with a disapproving frown.
"I'm sorry. He just seemed really rude," Bella said and flashed Cathy a disarming smile when she raised a brow.
Cathy decided just to ignore Bella, "This is my official personal journal. I have his schedule for the next one month written in here. You can have it printed out if you like or just write it down. I expect you to check in with me every morning to find out if there is any change in plans," Cathy said as she handed her a big journal.
"I'll do just that. Thank you," Bella said with a polite smile before leaning closer to Cathy, "So what is he like?" Bella asked in a whisper.
"If you want to keep your job for long, I'll suggest you don't go about asking questions about him. Just make sure you do your work diligently," Cathy said, making Bella want to roll her eyes.
"Jeez! Okay! Fine!" Bella muttered.
"You're bound to find out all you need to know about him soon enough. Now if you will excuse me, I need to get back to work," Cathy said before returning her attention to the documents in front of her.
Bella sighed as she walked away with the journal. What was the big deal with him anyway?
