Bella was having the time of her life in the kitchen with Kathleen, who was teaching her how to make cookies, and neither of them heard Dan enter the house or took note of him as he stood by the kitchen door, watching them laughing over something Bella had said.
He had decided not to give Kathleen a call to inform him that he was on his way. He had planned to surprise both ladies.
He was pleasantly surprised to see both ladies getting along so well. He had not expected that. At least not yet.
Dan had asked Zach to follow behind them with his car, and once they had gotten out of the palace, Dan had come up with an excuse to leave, asking Zach to escort them while he left in his car.
"When did you get here?!" Kathleen exclaimed when she saw him, surprising Bella, who looked up in Dan's direction.
