Chapter 20 - CHAPTER NINE – CHECKMATE (2/2)

Alice, Kiro and Lucas were seated in Alice's room. It was getting late and Kiro and Lucas had to leave. Something hit Lucas. His head was finally clear so he could think properly. Erica said her perk was 'nullify'. But he remembered that her perk was immortality. How did that skip his mind? He had gotten so angry that he could barely hear anything then. "Guys, I think Erica is up to something. Her perk, she lied about it," Lucas said.

"What do you mean?" Kiro asked.

"Her perk isn't 'nullify'. It's immortality." Lucas replied. His phone beeped. A message from Auron came in. it read 'weapons free'. Lucas paused for some time after reading it.

"Is everything okay?" Alice asked.

"It's a message from Auron… Liana. We're going to war," Lucas replied.

"And we're helping her because?" Alice asked.

"Because we have a bigger problem. That message is supposed to signify the hunter's resurrection. I think you know what that means?"

"We'll put aside our differences for now. We have a bigger enemy in front of us," Kiro responded.

"Exactly. So Kiro will gather the eccentrics. I'll get all the god killers I can find. Take them to the planned spot," Lucas said. Kiro simply nodded in affirmation.

"What's the plan?" Alice asked.

"Auron's fail safe if things ever went out of hand."

"Where will you be going?" Alice asked Lucas.

"To help Liana. We'll get Damian to take them there while we head for Liana. She's inhabiting Auron's body. I can't let it get hurt."

"I'm coming with you Lucas," Alice said.

"Go with Damian. It's safer for now."

"I said, I'll come with you," Alice insisted. Lucas looked to Kiro and he shrugged his shoulders.

"Fine. Kiro, keep her close. And safe." And they headed out. There was no need to inform her parents, for as always, they were not back home.

"Do you think the three of us will be enough though?" Kiro teased.

"I'm the strongest god killer. I'm more than enough. You two are just extras," Lucas goaded. And they set out immediately.

Liana pulled up a hex circle on both hands, in a bid to stand against three of the five elder gods. A herculean task that was. But she had come too far to back down. She wouldn't let anything get in her way. Kai sent a gust of wind at her. She pulled a barrier around herself and she wasn't moved by the wind. But Kai didn't let up. He kept the pressure on her and it took her full concentration to keep her shield up. Amidst the murderous wind, Goliath charged head on at Liana. As he attempted to collide with the barrier, she let it up and Goliath slipped through. Slightly disoriented by Liana's surprising move, he moved straight at Liana, unable to control his speed. Liana went straight for his face, covering it with her palm and placing a seal on it, with the sole purpose of blocking his air supply. Kai charged an even greater amount of wind at her and Esther sent a wave of water, but she countered by pulling up a hex barrier wall in front of her while simultaneously placing a hex seal on Goliath's back, stopping his movement.

Reach. Wind attacked Liana from behind her. She pulled up a seal to block it. Reach. Reach. Reach. Reach. The perk Kai possessed was called 'Reach'. He could attack anyone from anywhere as long as they were within a two-kilometre range. All he just needed to do was picture the person in his mind. Wind continued to attack her from different sides. She continued to pull up seals until she trapped herself in a cube. The air within became unstable, threatening to explode. Liana was forced to release her seals to jump out of the way. Upon getting up, Goliath was already free of his seal. Trouble. Before she could react, Esther stopped her movement from afar. Her perk was the power to control people's movements; 'Puppet'. Although it had very little effect on Liana, that second's pause was enough for Goliath to cover her body with earth. She struggled but it was futile. The target had been secured. He moved her slowly towards the machine.

As she got close, she smiled. Her real goal was to destroy the machine. She didn't get caught, she let them catch her. "Hexa giga excelsia!" Liana chanted and a dense force field enveloped her. After gaining momentum, it expanded, pushing away everything around her. But upon getting to the machine, it was absorbed! All of it. Liana was dumbstruck. She had been played. They didn't need her hand; they needed her energy and she just gave it to them. The earth holding her crumbled. Goliath had let go of his grip.

"Did you really think we couldn't outsmart you? You pull the same kind of trick every time. I'm a little disappointed. I didn't think it'd go this smoothly. Grow up Liana. This is a different era. Stop thinking you're always the smartest in the room," Kai goaded. "Now Leo, let's finish this."

"Yes. It's finally time for me to be reborn." Leo proclaimed as he stepped into the machine. Liana couldn't do anything at that point but stare in dismay. It was all over. The hunter had returned.
