Chapter 8 - CHAPTER THREE – THE NEW KID (3/3)

Alice got home, more tired than she usually was. She laid on her bed, wide awake but without anything on her mind. She picked up her phone, but before she could unlock it, Heress appeared again. "Would you like to talk now?" Heress asked.

"Nah, I'll pass. You can keep your secrets. I have enough problems already," Alice said as she unlocked her phone, dispelling Heress from her screen. As she scrolled through the social trends, she noticed a recurring story, reports of people claiming to see an angel. Some even had distant photographs to back up their claims, although none of them was distinct enough to be taken too seriously. She locked her phone again. Nothing seemed to pick her interest.

"You are definitely the least curious human I've ever met," Heress said from her Alice's screen.

"I'm just not bothered by what bothers most people," Alice said. She unlocked her phone, as she heard her notification sound. Someone was claiming to have seen the 'angel' in Rio de Janeiro at that moment. "Rio. I haven't been there in quite some time. Oh well, it's not like I've got something better to do," Alice said. She took out her matchbox and lit a matchstick. And with her golden circle, she appeared atop the 'Christ the Redeemer' statue in Rio.

The sight below was beautiful. The people, the houses, everything felt serene, compared to her disaster of a life. The breeze was heavenly and at this point, probably enough to take her to heaven. A large gust of wind came from behind her. It was deafening, and so strong, that it almost threw her off, causing her to stumble. As she regained her balance, she noticed a lot of cheers from beneath her and that same deafening sound above her, like the flapping of wings. Flapping of wings!!! The angel!!! It had to be him. She looked up to see what the rumors had been about. An angel, flying so close to the sun. Its wings, as wide as the clouds themselves. It wasn't white as she expected but it glittered, so much that Alice squinted. She couldn't make a clear picture of it, even though she was closer to it that everyone else. Just a shadow of itself but it didn't take away its divine feel.

"I can't believe it's actually real," Alice said in delight. She wished she could get closer but it was moving fast. She would have tried to teleport to it but she was more worried about getting back than getting there. She doubted she'd be able to light a match with so much draft.

"Well, you're real. As hard to believe as it may be," A voice from behind said. Alice was petrified. As frightening as the voice sounded, it felt familiar. She looked behind to see a face that she couldn't quite put a name on but she felt she knew him, even though she had absolutely no memory of ever meeting him. "It's nice to see you again, Lady Heress. Or do you prefer to be called Alice, my lady?" The man bowed.
