There's nothing more exciting in an eleven year old's life than a field trip. It's a perfect way to be with your friends outside of school and away from home. Students go to different places at field trips. They go to museums, factories, recreational parks, and so much more. The last thing you'll expect a field trip venue would be is a school. After all, who would be thrilled to go on a field trip at a different school? No one. Absolutely no one. You could understand why little Rachelle is bored on their way to the school bus to go to the said school.
"Okay class! Are you ready for our field trip?" Mrs. Johnson, the homeroom teacher asked. The children cheered and continued chatting with their friends. Rachelle didn't like the idea of going to a different school on a field trip, but she wasn't opposed to the idea of hanging out with her best friends: Tiffany, Jessica, and Erica.
"C'mon, Rach! They're leaving!" Tiffany said as she ran towards Rachelle and pulled her hand. Rachelle has been walking behind the whole class and minding her own business.
"This is so boring! I want to go home!" Erica whined. Erica and Rachelle thought the same thing.
"Ugh. Stop being such a brat, Erica!" Jessica said, clearly annoyed.
"Guys! Don't you realize that this is fun? We get to go to different schools-" Jeremy, their only male friend, said, but got quickly cut off by Tiffany.
"What's fun about that?" Tiffany asked as she crossed her arms. She wasn't happy with the venue their school chose either. It was a whole day of going from school to school and the thought of it was already tiring. If the thought of it was already tiring, imagine actually doing it. It was simply not fun.
"Well, we get to choose what school we want to go to in high school." Jeremy stated.
"He's right. For the first time in forever, he's right!" Tiffany agreed and walked ahead of them.
"I'm always right." Jeremy muttered under his breath, thinking no one heard it. Rachelle heard it, though. She just kept her mouth shut and pretended she didn't.
-
"Class, remember to stick with your partners! We should stick together as a group!" Mrs. Johnson said as they entered the last school for the whole field trip. All the children were partnered up with their friends; Rachelle and Erica, Tiffany and Jessica, Jeremy and Marcel, Liam and Tom, Margaret and Jane, Jerry and Harry, and the list goes on.
They first saw the football field. It was big and the children were amazed by it. The boys were obviously thrilled and many of them hoped to be a football player someday. Then they were taken to the library. It was filled with a lot of books and Marcel claimed that it was heaven. Most of the children disagreed, but Marcel didn't care. He loved books and he wanted to become a writer one day. After that, they were shown the cafeteria. Nothing exciting was there, because it looked like the cafeteria they had at their own school except that this one was bigger.
"Why is their cafeteria bigger than ours?" Harry asked.
"Because this school is for big kids; the high school students." The tour guide said politely and smiled at the young boy.
"My sister's in high school!" Liam cheered. The other kids looked at him with interest.
"Really?"
"What do high school people do?"
"Are they fun?"
"Hold on, kids. Let's not overwhelm Liam with questions." Mrs. Johnson chuckled. "Liam, would you like to tell the other kids what your high school sister is like?"
Liam nodded happily, "She goes to parties every night! Then she she has leaves in her backpack. I don't know what those are, but she said it was for gardening or something. She also drinks adult juice! And she also said something about se-"
"Okay, that's enough! Thank you, Liam." Mrs. Johnson said. She was kind of traumatized by what Liam shared to the class. After all, she was a high school student at one point in her life and she was kind of guilty that she did those things. She even had a belly button piercing at sixteen, because it was her sign of 'rebellion'. She silently prayed that the children wouldn't grow up to be like her despite knowing it was inevitable.
"Mrs. Johnson?" Erica called her attention. Mrs. Johnson turned to her and smiled sweetly, "Yes, honey?"
"I need to go to the bathroom." Erica said with a cute pout.
"Okay. Just go straight and turn left. Follow us to the bus, okay?" Mrs. Johnson said. "Take your partner with you."
"Okay, Mrs. Johnson!" Erica smiled as she went to the bathroom with Rachelle. Tiffany and Jessica followed suit, because they wanted to go too.
After using the bathroom, the four little girls tried to make their way to the bus. Alas, they got lost. They were too short to see through the crowds and they don't memorize the hallways and such. They ended up back at the football field.
The football field had some football players, a coach, an assistant coach, and the cheerleaders. This didn't go unnoticed by Jessica who stared at them in awe.
"Wow. Look at those cheerleaders!" she pointed.
"Look at the football players!" Erica smiled at the sight of the cute boys. She claimed that one of them was probably THE Prince Charming.
While Jessica was in her own little world copying the cheerleaders, the rest of the girls' eyes wander elsewhere around the football field.
"Hey, there's a soccer thing on the other side! The goal thing!" Tiffany said, jumping up and down excitedly.
"Tiff, you don't even play soccer." Rachelle rolled her eyes.
"I know. I'n just excited!" Tiffany smiled.
"Excited for what?" Rachelle asked, curious at to what her best friend will say.
"When we're in high school already, my boyfriend's going to be a soccer player! He's going to be tall and handsome." Tiffany said proudly as if she could foresee her future.
"Wow. You already know what he looks like." Rachelle said sarcastically and shook her head.
"No, I don't! I'm saying what my dream boyfriend would be like. So, he HAS TO BE a soccer player, he HAS TO BE tall, and most importantly he HAS TO BE handsome." Tiffany grinned.
"Okay, then. Whatever floats your boat, Tiff." Rachelle said.
"Rach, we don't have a boat. We have a yacht." Tiffany exclaimed and rolled her eyes before walking to where Erica was standing.
"I swear that girl is so dumb." Rachelle sighed. She pitied her friend.
"Girls! Girls! Girls!" Jessica turned to them and giggled.
"Yeah?" Erica said.
"I know what school we should go to when we reach high school!" Jessica exclaimed. She was truly excited for this even though high school wouldn't be happening years later.
"Where?" Erica asked.
"Here!" Jessica grinned. "We should go to high school here!"
The three girls looked at each before looking back at Jessica who looked crazy. She had a fire in her eyes that burned with passion. She knew what she was talking about.
"Think about it! We'll be cheerleaders!" Jessica sighed happily. She was a frustrated cheerleader. "Tiff, you could have the whole soccer team if you want."
Of course, just like that, Tiffany was completely on board with the idea.
"I agree with Jessica!" Tiffany grinned.
"We literally have years to think it over." Rachelle said as she looked at Erica for help. Erica just shrugged, "I don't really care. I'll just go wherever you girls decide to go."
"Ugh, Erica you're not helping." Rachelle groaned.
"Girls! There you are! We have to go! I've been looking all over for you!" Mrs. Johnson said as she let out a sigh of relief. The four girls quickly walked towards her and apologized for not coming back soon.
"That's alright." Mrs. Johnson said, clutching her chest. "Let's go back to the bus."
The five of them walk back to the bus and Mrs. Johnson began head counts again. Once she finished and realized that all children were complete, she told the driver that they were ready to go.
"Where did you go?" Jeremy asked as he stood on his seat which was behind Tiffany and Jessica.
Jessica looked up at him and said, "We went to the bathroom, but we got lost. Then we ended up at the football field and we saw the football players and the cheerleaders!"
Tiffany and Jessica giggled as they proceeded to talk about their plans for high school. High school was years away, but they wanted to come in prepared.
"High school is so far away, though." Marcel butted in.
"You're not included in the conversation, Marcel." Rachelle stepped in.
"Yeah, well so are you." Marcel smirked.
"Anything that involves one of us, immediately includes all of us. So technically, I'm part of the conversation." Rachelle argued.
"That makes no sense at all!" Marcel furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "That's not how conversation works! I know, because I've read somewhere that-"
"Then apply what you've read in real life." Rachelle seethed.
A moment of silence fell upon the small group. It was as if an angel passed by. Jessica cleared her throat and broke the silence, "I'm going to be a cheerleader!"
"You're too heavy to be a cheerleader." Liam teased.
"You're too ugly to go to school, but you don't hear me complaining." Jessica replied causing everyone to laugh. Mrs. Johnson, who was sitting comfortably on her seat while looking out the window, heard this and bit back a laugh.
From that moment on, she knew that those four girls who nearly got left behind, were going to have wild lives.
