Adrian saw that a large sum of money had been transferred to his account and shook his head with a bitter smile. He wanted to be independent of his family, but eventually had to depend on them financially. He quickly ordered a few Nucleus Solution bottles from Enigma Corp's website and went to sleep. His tired body couldn't handle the strain anymore.
When Adrian woke up, his body was still in pain, but much better than yesterday night. Freshening up and going to school, Adrian tried keeping a low profile as usual. However, his luck ran out when he entered the school campus.
Cody and his lackeys seemed to be having an argument with another ability user and his groupies. When Adrian arrived, he saw that Cody and his group had been beaten to the ground by the other group, who left the scebe in a grandiose manner. The moment Adrian saw Cody and his minions on the ground, his back started tingling, because he knew what would happen next.
Cody and his gang struggled to get up, and saw Adrian glaring at them. They immediately lost themselves in a fit of rage and began beating up the innocent bystander. Adrian quietly crouched and shielded his vitals while taking the flurry of kicks and punches from the strengthening ability users. An hour later, Adrian was once again in the infirmary surrounded by a blue cocoon of healing energy, while the Nurse Esther shook her head knowingly.
Adrian quietly lay on the bed that had become a second home to him, looking at the ceiling that had become a familiar sight to him over the past two years. At that moment, he heard the sound of three people enter the infirmary in panic.
"Nurse Esther, our friend is injured!" One of the voices yelled. "Please help!"
The Nurse grudgingly walked out of her office to see the new victim. "Oh, it's you? Second time in three weeks, huh? Don't worry, go to the bed and lay down."
Adrian turned his head to see a blonde girl full of heavy injury marks being laid down on the bed beside his. The nurse came and injected a healing potion in her arm, while she shooed the two friends back to their class.
"What happened to her?" Adrian asked the nurse.
"Same as you. She's being targetted by some girl in her class, I'd wager. Teenage girls can be more vicious than boys, I swear." The nurse muttered. Over time Adrian had become familiar with the nurse, and she didn't mind talking to him either.
"I haven't seen her in class? She isn't in third grade is she?" Adrian asked.
"Nope. Second grade and the bullying has already begun." The nurse shook her head.
At that moment the girl who was undergoing healing also returned to consciousness and saw that a boy was sleeping in the bed beside her with horrific looking injuries and undergoing healing.
"Who... are you?" She asked in shock.
Adrian chuckled bitterly. "Your senior apparently and a regular of the infirmary."
The nurse clapped her hands. "Alice, this is brat's name is Adrian. It is his fourth time this week. You can learn some tips from him on how to not lose hope."
"Adrian... could you be the infamous cripple?" The blonde girl named Alice.mumbled before realizing the faux pas. "I'm sorry." She whispered immediately after.
Adrian shook his head. "No problem. It is true after all."
The nurse shrugged, and left the two alone by heading to her small office. Adrian and Alice spent the day talking about things in general.
It turned out that Alice was in the second year and had been targetted by a girl who was a rival and had just awoken her ability of enhanced speed recently.
As they were talking, Adrian found that Alice stopped talking and looked like she was paralyzed in shock. However, moments later, bolts of electricity began erupting out of her body like overflowing static and her pupils showed signs of lightning erupting in them. The electric voltage in the infirmary began to flicker violently and the Nurse rushed in to see what was going on.
"Oh, looks like the girl awakened her ability, and it isn't a weak one either!" Nurse Esther exclaimed while clapping her hands.
After five minutes, Alice sat upon the bed, small bolts of lightning erupting out of her finger, and a smile on her face.
"Yes, I awakened!" Alice yelled with joy.
The nurse nodded. "Indeed, abilities often awaken after considerable duress." She said in a knowing voice. "You should head to the Ability Index Monitor, to get registered. You should have awakened a rather high potential ability."
Alice nodded then she got out of the bed. With awakening, she was rather rapidly healed as well. "Senior, I'll see you around." Alice said with a joyful smile as she walked out of the infirmary with excitement.
The Nurse looked at Adrian with pity. "Boy, I'm starting to think the repetitive beatings won't awaken your ability."
Adrian rolled his eyes. "You didn't have to be so blunt! I think I am really a cripple." He said bitterly.
After school ended, Adrian, whom the healing potion had healed completely was better than in the morning. He made his way to the training center and underwent a round of the hellish training. After the hardcore exercise training ended, Jimmy threw Adrian out of the training center. Adrian went to the tailored nutrition center Jimmy had advised and purchased a specially tailored meal before returning home, his body feeling like it was on the verge of collapse.
After limping his way home, he discovered that the Nucleus Solution package had already arrived. He entered his apartment, and devoured his disgusting tasting meal without batting an eye, before he swallowed a bottle of nucleus solution and fell asleep.
