When they reached the village, Nathaniel led her to the old woman's hut. He helped her off the horse and walked her inside. Rose stopped as she saw the thin sheet laying over the table. It was blood-soaked. She instantly started to cry. An old woman came shuffling into the room and she saw surprise on her face.
"M'Lord, she should not be here. She does not need to see her father like this."
"Show him to me. I have to know what happened."
"Child, please, listen to me as I say again that you should not see him like this. Remember your father as he was."
"If you will not show him to me, I will look for myself," Rose said as she walked towards the table.
"No. I will show him to you. Prepare yourself, child."
