When night fell, the knights were slaughtered by a newly awakened Nathaniel. He was no longer a man, but a vampire. He drank them dry and went to find Rose, who had left him to die alone. But he didn't have to go looking for her as she was coming down to the tombs as he was going up the steps. Nathaniel saw her as she was coming down the steps.
Rose stopped when she saw him. Her eyes widened. She immediately ran down the rest of the steps and threw her arms around him. Nathaniel's thirst for blood had been sated and he found he could not drink from Rose. He felt her love for him. She was crying on his shoulder.
"My love, I thought you had died. I, I didn't get there in time to save you. You feel so cold," Rose said as she continued to cry.
