"They are no foe, M'Lord. Please, come with me and they will come out of the water," the cook said.
"What is the meaning of this, cook? Why can he not come out now? If he is one of us then he should be able to announce himself when called."
Nathaniel saw the cook look towards the water and then back at him. His eyes narrowed as he sensed something going on that should not be. He grabbed the clothes off of the bank and started walking towards the cook. The cook called out to the person in the water and told them to stay there.
"What is the meaning of this, cook? Do you have someone down here that you have stowed away in my army? Tell me or you and they shall be punished."
"M'Lord, I humbly apologize. I promised I would not tell you."
"Then you shall die," Nathaniel said.
"No! Leave him be. I will come out," Rose shouted.
