Chapter 7 - Chapter 6: Mackie

I watched as the boys left on their vacation/ errand. I seriously hoped that they would remember the time-sand. I swear, those three boys and my brother can be a handful!

Thinking back about this morning, when I told Devian that we were not keeping him as our prisoner, I felt bad about the whole situation. Mostly, because it was a blatant lie.

*FLASH BACK: Devian's rescue*

After Parker had returned from making  Devian comfortable, he asked me to give our wounded guest a check up, since I act as our Group's doctor. So I did.

After that, I had returned to Parker with what I had thought was good news. To my surprise, however, Parker asked me if I was sure that Devian didn't have any life-threatening injuries. When I confirmed that no, minus Devian's broken rib, he would make a full recovery, Parker got a sad, distanced look in his eyes.

Suddenly Parker lost the look, looked me straight in my eyes and said; "Mackie. That boy is a dangerous person. We can not allow him to live..."

"WHAT!?" Needless to say, I was horrified about what Parker had told me. "What are you talking about, Parker? Do you have any proof?"

"Um. Well. No. But..."

"You know the rules, Parker." I said, "No proof, no conviction." If there is one thing that the world around us lacks today, it's proof.

"I know, sis."

"Look. At least let me fix him up," I suggested. "After that, you can get your proof."

"Mackie, it's imperative that Devian stays in that room. We can't have him escaping, nor can we have him being found by..."

At this point, Parker's voice trailed off.

"Found by who?" I pressed.

"Never mind. I don't want to talk about it... just keep the kid away from me."

"O-okay..."

With that, my brother stood up and left me with my thoughts. What was Parker's issue? It wasn't like we even knew this kid... right?

I really had no idea what was going on, but from that point on, I had made Devian my responsibility.

*END FLASH BACK*

Now here I was, in the present, thinking about how Devian had what seemed to have been a panic attack, when I had handed him that antique pocket watch.

I must say though, that seeing the pocket watch made something inside of me click. A memory, really... you see? Being a Time Keeper requires you to know your history.

That particular pocket watch was said to contain the soul of past time weavers, an extraordinary, yet dangerous time keeper. As far as I could remember, the story was that the last time weaver gave her life to save a city. The history said that because she put her love of her city before her self, she had been given a "second chance"... her soul would be preserved within the watch, until a person worthy of the next time weaver. But, I suppose that we will never know the real truth.

But... no. No, there was no way that the boy who was on Parker's hit-list was... no way! Right?
