Chapter 10 - free spirited

Small remnants of light of different colors now hover between me and Mawl for a while before floating to the ground and grow in varying sizes to the shape of people. The lights vanish like cracking shells and leave bodies piled on the ground. Three people of different races lie still and barely breathing.

"... Lethara, get a hold on the white church and gold church now! Brights apprehend the blue mage!" Mawl snaps into action barking orders. The receptionist, Lethara, grabs something from under the desk that looked like a sheet tablet. Kind of futuristic looking. Brights pulls on the girls arm and yanked her into the air, forcing her to let go of the knife in my hand. Fucking christ almighty that is painful!!

She struggles and yacks on about who she is and what her rights are and such. As Brights takes her to the front door where a few guards in white armor wait to cuff her and throw her in a carriage. Well we're not seeing her again for a while.

Oh goodbye motor control...

I dropped to my knees dizzy from the blood lose. Why am I still losing blood? Oh yeah. The knife. I can barely hear or see much as I pull the knife out of my hand and let the blood flow until the wound closes and the blood just disappears. I'm still light headed by my senses are clearing again. Vanessa was holding my shoulders to keep me up. I still can't hear her yet. I look to my hand and flex it to make sure it was okay. The sounds around me are slowly making their way to my ears again.

"Greenwool! Sir Greenwool!" I look up to see a big floofy, bright, salty beard hang in front of me as a callused hand holds up my chin to meet the gaze of bright yellow eyes. Holy fuck, those eyes! "Sir Greenwool! Are you alright!?"

"... Miss." I reply drunkenly. God my head.

"Hm? I'm no miss."

I push the calloused hands, who I finally see as Mr. Mawl, away from me. He was so close. "I'm a miss. And I'm alright, Mr. Mawl. Just lightheaded from my first heavy blood loss."

"...ah. Eh?" I could see his face more clearly now. He looked a bit baffled. "A miss? You?"

"Yes? Is that a problem?" I got all my senses back.

"Ah. No. I didn't mean to assume, you just seemed very ..."

"Guy-ish. I know. I get that a lot." I rub my head to try to get rid of the headache. A few mages in white approach me and the half dead group on the floor to check if everyone was well. I was fine, obviously, but the other three seemed to be suffering from mild seizures and spasms. They were carried off out of the guild with care and I stand and dust myself off, then check my hand again. Minus a new line in my hand, it was completely healed. Mawl suddenly seemed uneasy as he spoke to Brights who gave me a dumbfounded face.

"Huh. Guess the name makes more sense then. I was wondering why his... Uh... Her name was so feminine."

"Well, after this we'll have to hold out on your second test. I am sincerely sorry about this." Mawl says. I can hear the annoyance in his voice. Must be paperwork.

"No worries. I guess that gives us more time to shop around for the rest of the day, right Vanessa?" I say with a worried smile knowing she was still freaking out at what just happened in front of her. To my surprise she and Christa were completely relieved to see I was fine rather than panicking and trying to force me to stay at the manner from now on. Guess they were used to this sort of thing after being nearly kidnapped.

"Yes! Definitely!" Vanessa says happily. "Lets go get this exchanged then."

"Good idea, madam."

"Just a moment." Mawl says before we head out. "I will most likely be able to finish in a few days. Whenever you feel like returning for your second test, bring this back with you when you return." He takes a bracelet off his arm and puts it on my wrist. It looked pretty and simple with the guild emblem on it.

"I will. Thank you, Mr Mawl. See you soon. And you too, Mr. Brights."

"Next time I'll show you a thing or two about actual combat. So be prepared." Brights says excitedly. That made me giggle a bit. He's kind of fun.

Throughout the rest of the day, Vanessa, Christa, and I continue to shop around the area for more clothes and check out some armor for me to wear on a regular basis. It was a first for me to actually go and shop for myself. Let alone be with someone to do it with. I finally started having some fun. Later that afternoon as we were heading back to the estate, Vanessa recognizes a new carriage on the pathway in front of the manor. Someone was talking to Vincent. A few people actually. They were all clad in black and grey with only their pale heads revealed to contrast their wears. I almost thought they were vampires with how they seemed to stand; noses high and proud. It was quite the intimidating sight to see.

"Oh. Father must have invited the other sect nobles to take part." Vanessa says.

"... Why!?"

"Why not! You're absolutely amazing. It'd be shameful not to have at least this many nobles see you become part of the family."

This family takes goblins in too high of a regard, I think.

One of the nobles turn to see us as we approach and then the rest do the same. I can see all of them as they were now. An elf, a beastman, a dwarf, a demon and an oba. All albino! What the hell!? That's too much beauty for my eyes!

So much for a discrete life as a scavenger. "... Can I bring a few faces from the goblin sect?"

"Hm? Who will you bring?"

"A few people I made a promise to. I think they said they were related to Sanguis, so I'll ask him to escort me there..."

"I'm already here."

"Whoa!!" When the hell did he get here!?

"Would you like to go now?" He seems way giddier than when we first met as he bows to me as if I were some kind of royalty. Stop~...

"Y-yeah... Will you stand straight please. That's aggravating."

"I'm sorry." He stands straight like a butler.

"Anyway." I can't believe I'm saying this. "You're flying me there. Come on."

"Wait! You need to get changed first!"

"I'll be right back!" I'm suddenly lifted off the ground and seated on Sanguis's shoulder. "Whoa! Give me a warning first!"

"I'm taking off now." He says as large half feathered wings flutter out of his lower back. He leaps into the air and off we went back to the goblin alley.

"Was that the little goblin?" The elf asked as she and the others watched Tessa fly off. "The one you said could read the black gods text?"

"Yes." Vincent answers. "If the prophecy is on point, then the hero will soon have his new teacher for his training and the mighty kings will be united again with this one."

"You think this goblin will be the new king for the black god after so many years of going missing?"

"If not, then she's most certainly related to the rise."

The ogre sniffs the air to take in Tessa's lingering scent. "The goblin will prevail over many great misfortunes in the presence of the hero. And much of her blood will be spilled for the sake of peace. I pity and envy that child for her great fortune."

"Even the golden Guardian has come to love her presence." The dwarf says with a bellowing laugh. "To the point of coming to her call at the mention of his name."

"I told you she was amazing. Come. Let's get her awakening ready."

They all head inside with Vanessa and her maid tailing behind.
