When the commander left, the two soldiers shared the same frightened look. They have come in a tacit understanding. However, their point of view was not aligned.
"I don't want to participate in this case anymore. I should go home." the young soldier muttered what his instinct had been saying to him.
His companion cast a look of sympathy and responded, "Even if you want to go home, you can't. The commander will kill your family if you angered him."
"Kill my family?! But... but... but..." the soldier stuttered as he struggled to search for a reason to speak. His shoulder slumped in defeat he could not find one.
"I also don't want to continue. But, what can we do? We are just soldiers," his companion responded.
