Yesterday's incidents stacked like building blocks. Worry weighed on me, making it impossible to get back to sleep after waking up in the middle of the night because of a nightmare.
I woke up with cold sweat dripping from the side of my forehead. My chest rises and falls as I take a deep breath to calm my nerves. The nightmare was more than terrifying. It felt so real and inescapable that it only worsened the boiling feeling inside of me.
Flames were engulfing the nearest forest, while on the other side, a village was in ruins. The smoke from the fire darkened the atmosphere, but I could still make out the pile of bodies between an empty street.
It shook me to the core that I ran away from it, afraid to see the lifeless bodies that are dark as charcoal. But the more I pick up on my pace to get away from the chaos, the stronger the pull I feel on my waist and legs.
