Chapter 3 - Chapter 2 - Code: R E D

"This is so tiring... Let's go home," I said sleepily, and sat down on the bench where my eyes first landed.

"It's more intense than our usual training with Grandma Naomi, and it's making me sick," Clydelle groaned.

"Of all the options we had, why did you choose the one with parkour, Frank?" Tyler yawned as he sat down on the ground in front of me.

"Well, I need a distraction," he said proudly, chuckling as he stretched his arms.

"Come on guys, let's now head back home. There's a debutant expecting me to attend her party." I stood up and did some stretching. I need to come back to my senses because the party will undoubtedly require my full attention.

"KYAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"

But as we were about to leave, we heard a deafening scream that echoed from the pastry shop which is 10 meters away from us, and we noticed some civilians fleeing the shop hysterically.

"Guys, I think they need help," Frank said, returning our gaze.

"Do you think we'll be able to fight after you drained our energy at the shooting range parkour?" I complained, rolling my eyes.

"Let's not get involved in something like this; it's best to report it to the authorities; this isn't something a teenager can handle," Clydelle said.

"Then I'll go help them by myself." He turned his back on us and went to the pastry shop, but then a bizarre looking animal showed up that instantly change his mind, and that made him run back to us.

"What the—what kind of creature is that?" Tyler exclaimed, and this strange situation awoken us from exhaustion.

"Ate?" I called out to her, not out of fear, but to seek her approval.

It took her a moment to respond. She sighed and gave in for approval. "Alright."

As soon as she nodded, I used my supernatural ability to pause time: "Time pause," I whispered, touching each of them to release them from my control.

[Saori Mina Moon, 18: Time Control]

[ Her ability allowed her to pause and play the time whenever she wanted, but if she exceeded the limit of one and a half minutes, the time will resume and she will lost consciousness.]

[She can touch anyone she doesn't want to be affected by her power.]

"Ate, can you identify that?" I inquired.

"Yeah of course," she nodded and immediately responded after a second. "It has been confirmed that the monster is not from our dimension; it can breathe a massive amount of fire every five minutes, and its weakness is the glowing ball at the end of its tail," she explained, pointing its tail.

The monster is extremely strange because it is a hybrid of animals, most likely resembling a reptile; it is similar to a chimera.

The size and shape of its body reminded me of a giant lion, and its face reminded me of a Komodo dragon. His eyes were pure white, like those of a blind person, his entire body was covered in dragon scales, and his teeth were sharper than those of a shark.

[Clydelle Jones Park, 19: Clairvoyant]

[She can see through a living creature's identity (though she has limitations on the information she can obtain), and she can also read their minds.]

[There are many things she can do, but if she pushes herself too far, she will go blind, but she can stabilize if she trains hard.]

"I have a plan that might work."

"We only have a minute, ate Sari, please think quickly," Frank begged nervously.

"I know," I replied, nodding. "Frank, I'm aware that you're still unable to fully control your ability, so I'll appoint you as our fallback striker for wide-range destruction; me and ate Clydelle can just aid later when you're done."

"All right," he replied anxiously.

"And you, Tyler, transform yourself into a robust animal capable of smashing the monster's tail, while ate Clydelle and I focus on diverting the monster's attention."

"All right, I'll turn into a gorilla." Then a green Sherwood light shines all over his body, and he transforms into an 8-foot-tall gorilla in an instant.

"Good choice! Now everyone, go to your assigned locations and in 15 seconds I'll resume the time."

"How about the civilians, ate Sari?" my brother inquired.

"Most of them have evacuated the area, and unfortunately, some of those who remain in the store are dead, though a few still have pulses," Clydelle informed us.

"Then I'll go look for them," he suggested.

"All right, be careful."

[Frank Douglas Moon, 16: Telekinesis]

[He can control and levitate anything he wants, and if he learns it well enough, he can destroy a country in an instant.]

[He may be powerful and destructive, but if he does not control the damage well, he will be affected by it.]

[Tyler Adamson, 16: Shape-shifting and Power Mimicry]

[His shape shifting ability is focused on animals, and he can mimic their power and skill, but he still can't control it well and can't last long.]

"Time play."

*HHNGRRAAAAAAARRHHH!!* The monster growled and threw tantrums all over the place, destroying anything that appeared to be in its way.

Fortunately, ate Clydelle and I arrived quickly on either side, repeatedly throwing rubbles at the monster, using only the exact size of the previously destroyed debris that we caught on our way to get its attention.

We waited for Tyler to carry out the plan, and when the time was right, he jumped over to the monster's body and grabbed its tail.

We're almost there, but when Tyler tried to smash the orb, the monster whipped his tail incessantly, causing Tyler to lose his grip and be thrown away.

"Ate, let's go!" I exclaimed when I spotted an open path to finish the monster off.

As I approached the monster, I grabbed a metal rod. It's a good thing it was distracted by the flickering light from the lamppost it destroyed. So I dashed towards it and hopped on its back, shattering its orb.

But it wasn't going to be easy because it went on a rampage again, and I was thrown away and my back hit the wall.

"Damn it!" I hissed, holding back the pain I felt when my back hit the wall.

And when Clydelle saw my condition, she attempted to do the same thing, maybe it might work but failed. She is also tossed, but fortunately Frank catches her.

"Come on, how is it possible that the monster appeared right now to where we are?" I grumbled as I forced my body to rise.

Tyler yelled from the roof of a shop, "Ate Sari! Can you pause the time again?"

"Time pause," I uttered, but nothing happened; "I can't! I guess I've already reached my limit!"

"All right!" He hesitated at first, but quickly changed his mind and jumped onto the monster's back. He began repeatedly hitting the monster's head, which enraged it, and to our surprise, it breathed fire on its surroundings.

"Tyler! Go for its tail!" I exclaimed.

"All right!" he replied, slowly climbing to the tail, but the monster whipped its tail and smacked him against the wall.

"Oof! That must have broken his bones," I worriedly mumbled.

I'm getting pissed; why would such an unusual monster appear here? If I could only hit the monster with one punch, I'd definitely smash it until it's gooey.

But I was startled when the beast turned to face me. "Oh crap..." I turned around and ran as fast as I could because the monster was now pursuing me.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHH! HELP MEEEE!!" I screamed.

"HEY! STOP CHASING MY SISTER!" yelled Frank as he ran behind the monster.

"FRANK! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO RAGE AND DESTROY EVERYTHING!" I yelled at him, but his expression became more and more strange, as if he was confused and ashamed.

"I... I FORGOT HOW MY ABILITY WORKS!" he shouted back.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T—?!" I yelled, my voice cracking at the end.

"I haven't used it in two years!"

"OH MY GOODNESS FRANK! I ASSIGNED YOU TO THIS TASK BECAUSE EVEN IF YOU CAN'T COMPLETELY CONTROL YOUR POWER, YOU STILL PRACTICED EVERY SUNDAY SO—AAAAAAHH!" I screamed as I realized I was cornered inside an alleyway.

"I'M SORRY! I DIDN'T THINK A MONSTER ATTACK COULD HAPPEN!" He threw something at the monster to get its attention.

"WE HAVE WEIRD ABILITY, SO A MONSTER APPEARING IN OUR WORLD IS POSSIBLE!" I yelled back, throwing a rubble at the monster.

My eyes grew wide when I saw smoke coming from the beast's nostrils as it faced me.

"Time pause, time pause, time pause..." I mumbled repeatedly, hoping that my ability had recharged.

The monster roared, and I lost hope when it opened its mouth and I saw the fire about to come through its throat, but as I waited for it to burn me—I didn't feel anything at all. A man appeared in front of me, and with the blink of an eye, the monster lost consciousness, and my brother, who was standing behind it, passed out.

What is this?... I thought.

He was wearing a hooded cloak, but he took it off.

After the guy burned the monster with his flames, he turned around and glared at me with his sharp yellow eyes, but the color suddenly switched to violet and he gradually looked at me with a soothing expression.

I can't see his face clearly because he's wearing what appears to be a mask as part of his outfit, and his platinum white hair covers a portion of his face.

"Are you okay?" he worriedly asked.

"H-huh?" I asked, perplexed.

So there's another human like us with a unique ability, but he's far more powerful...
