"Everyone needs to have their bags loaded onto the bus! We are about to head out in five minutes". I rolled my eyes in annoyance as I tried to pull my luggage onto the bottom of the bus. Lillian had woken me up extra early to head out early and I was still super tired. I didn't even have time to grab something to eat, luckily mom already took Matthew to daycare this morning. We would only be gone for the weekend so two days max. I heaved my small luggage on the bus before facing an amused Aabir who had been watching me.
"Were you watching me the whole time"? I said with a frown. He chuckled gently before loading his own suitcase on the bus.
"It was quite amusing watching you struggle" He said with a grin. Just then I noticed Susana's gaze as she eyed me up and down. I gulp deeply before leaving Aabir to stand beside Lillian.
"I'm so excited you're here! Last year I was practically alone the whole time. Well I mean I had Aabir but he has his own friends" Lillian said rambling on and on.
"It's fine, I've actually never been camping before so I'm excited to go" I say forcing a smile on my face. It was finally time to head on the bus, I stood beside Lillian as I was of course going to sit next to her. Aabir stood up front but kept looking back at us biting his lip. He was about to mouth something to me when a brunette haired boy roughly patted his back. We snatched some seats towards the back and I decided to let Lillian have the window seat. Of course Aabir purposely chose the seats across from us, he reached over to poke my side.
"Hey" he said with a friendly smile as if he hadn't just seen me. I rolled my eyes turning my body a bit, it took ten minutes to get everyone loaded and ready to go. I placed my blanket on top of me resting my head against the seat. Instantly falling asleep the next time I woke up someone qas lightly shaking me awake.
I opened my eyes to see Lillian grabbing my shoulder. "Hey we are here, you slept the whole way! She exclaimed. I wipe the sleep away out of my eyes, the bus was almost empty. Everyone was already waiting outside. Being the last few people off the bus I saw my luggage was being held by Aabir.
He lifted my bag to show me he had already loaded it off the bus along with Lillian bags. I try and grab it from his hands but he refuses to let go. I give him a look of warning but he proudly smiles in my face, we await the next set of directions.
"Everyone will be sleeping in groups of three. We have the cabin all set up for you to put your things away. We will meet here in an hour for our first activity so you are all welcome to check the place out" one the the college staff informs us and leads the way ro the cabin. Girls and guys were of course separated by floors, we had the top level while the guys had the bottom.
Lillian look to me with a smile "I'm going to check which group we are in". I nod my head as I continue to battle Aabir for my bag. This would be my first ever camping trip and all I wanted was to have fun. I chased Aabir around trying to grab my purse back from him, he took out my wallet taking out a picture of me from highschool. I always kept it in my wallet but right now I was surely regretting it.
"Aabir I'm serious! Put that back right now"! I screamed but he was no longer listening to me. He gazed at the picture in awe as if he was examining the stars. He was so enraptured by the picture his face suddenly turned serious.
"I'm keeping this" he declared shoving the picture in his pants pocket. I was about to argue when he suddenly pulled me into a tight embrace. He smelt of fresh mint and mango, the scent made me slight dizzy and gave me a warm and inviting feeling.
I lightly slapped his chest trying to escape his arms. "Let go me... and give me back my picture, I didn't say you could have it"!
He chuckled lightly slight rocking me in his arms. "It's already been decided. Just let me keep this one thing... please" he gave me a puppy dog look and I just couldn't resist. Rolling my eyes I gave in, no longer having the energy to fight anymore. Lillian finally came back with a white piece of paper in her hands.
"Looks like we are roommates! Also... it looks like Susana will also be rooming with us" Lillian said biting her lip. Just then Susana waltzed in our little circle with a smug look.
"Hello roommates" she greeted with a fake smile. Aabir smiled at her and immediately her facade dropped. It happened so fast I didn't think it to be real, this girl was definitely in love. And no matter how many times I try to convince her that I wasn't interested in him, my body seemed to have a mind of its own. Soon we all went to our assigned rooms putting our stuff away. Lillian and I decided to do a bit of exploring around and before long it was time for the scavenger hunt. We each had to pick a number and whoever matched our particular number that was our partner.
I reached my hand into the box picking out the number 27. "Aww man looks like we aren't partners" Lillian said sadly showing me her paper which read number 9. Aabir came running examining my paper but immediately cursed when he realized we didn't have the same number.
"ALRIGHT WHO WANTS TO SWITCH? I NEED NUMBER 27"!! I slapped Aabir behind his head for being so loud.
"We can't switch once we have our numbers you fool! Stop screaming and just go to your partner" I jokingly scolded pushing him away. Susana suddenly appeared next to me holding up her number.
She put on an evil grin "looks like you and me are partners".
