Chapter 1 - Prologue

It's  Sunday morning in Goldbridge and the small house of our young seven years old protagonist is sitting far from the extravagance. He's living in a house made up of leftover wooden combustibles, broken school boards and patches of roofs. Though it's not much for a house the Fridge's shack didn't missed the sunshine, the only possible source of light when they run out of candles.

The absolute living things inside the Fridge's house are Timothy, Mrs. Fridge and his cat, Orange.

You might be looking for a Mr. Fridge?

Unfortunately, his to good for his life so they took his life. It's really true that good people gone first at least that's what Tim believed. Anyway he died with glory... and how he met death?

Well, he save an old helpless lady from being poisoned, which doesn't really explain how he died. I'll spare the climax to your curious minds.

Being a single parent is an unfair gift if you're taking the wedding vows. Mrs. Fridge end up with that gift. A tiresome present of being left and broke. Notwithstanding her down-and-out life, she still keep on looking at the bright light and her brightness from her son. Sometimes those brightness got dim when she sees her son missing a lot of needs. Needs that she can't completely provide for him.

Tim would try hard to hide those times of needs, but no matter how hard he try it just bloats out unforeseen. Even Orange has a surprisingly needs. His cat won't even approve to their menu which he couldn't agree more. For the meal are as stale as an old story. Sometimes they got to eat regular meals but it's not enough since they only divide a single dish to reach until dinner. Most of the time Mrs. Fridge would pretend that she's already full so that Tim would eat her part. But, he completely mastered his mother's tactics.

He won't accept it even if he's stomach is still grumbling in hunger. This will leave Mrs. Fridge no choice but to still eat her part.

For everyone, it's not enough booster for a morning loaded with heavy jobs yet she still look like she's taken energy drink.

Her daily routine will be going house to house and deliver newspapers, then she'll go to some diner and clean glass windows. Often times she'll do extra services like shoe shinning, and some stupid stuffs that only lazy people will ask you to do for them. For her, being stupid for everyone doesn't really matter as long as she can feed her beloved son. Only now that she can't fulfill that responsibility and often now she feel thunder in her tummy.

She is preparing to go on her work while making him a glass of milk.

"Timmy." she holler. The weakness in her voice is obvious, it sounds like she just woke up.

Tim rises from their bed as he heard her solemn voice. He went straight to the dining table and drink his glass of milk empty. The thud of glass broke her from fixation and came to her senses that he left nothing even a drop of milk.

"Mom? ... What's wrong? Haven't you drink yet?" he asked with worry. Tim feel a pinch of guilt building up in his chest. He totally know that she hasn't eaten anything in this very early morning and that thought pains him.

She kneeled to level with Tim and hug him. "No! It's fine I'll take some coffee on the shop anyway." She kisses his cheek.

"Mom is just going to earn some nickle for our meals, you stay here, okay?" her voice is so soft that she can beat a fluffy muffin. She want reassurance from him even he's not giving away.

He followed his mother to the door but he keep a bit distant so she wouldn't notice. She saunter to the door but as she nears the escape from his sight she became slow, slower than a turtle. One thing that he know is his mother collapsing on the floor.

"mom?!" he cried.
