Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : His World

What.. what are you saying? I can't understand.. what?! What is it?! Everything is so fuzzy and blurry.. What are you..saying..

I open my eyes to the sound of my creaky, old, raggedy door opening and the silhouette of my father, the sunlight casting through my boarded up window. What was that? Was I dreaming? There's no way that was just a dream. It felt too real.. What is this..? "..nho! MIN-HO!" I snapped back to my father yelling my name. I got up off my pillow, which isn't all that good, and looked at my father, confusion plastered on my face. "You got school, kid. Don't forget to head straight to Bunni Bits after school." After that he faded into the darkness outside of my room. I ran my fingers through my hair, letting out a yawn. I stood up from my bed and headed to the bathroom to freshen up, changing into my clothes, then going to the kitchen. "Good morning, Min-ho." My sister greeted me with a fake smile I could clearly see through. I didn't respond as I knew everything was a facade. I grabbed a plate and threw bread in the toaster. I began to zone out.. disassociating from my reality. Not long after I found myself in a bedroom. My bedroom. It was much nicer than the one I live in that's for sure. I went out to the living room, the whole house was bigger and fixed up, "Nice.." I muttered, looking around, finding myself standing in front of my family. "Haneul? Father?" I cocked my head to the side, finding it odd that they were found in the same room, genuinely happy. "Good morning Min-ho! You're up early." Haneul said, rising to her feet. "Ah, yeah. Just.. felt like getting up earlier than usual.." I played along, not sure what was happening and why it all felt real. But once again everything became fuzzy, the sounds became white noise as I fell unconscious. Seconds later, I opened my eyes, standing in front of the toaster again, bread standing up inside of it. I 'dressed up' my toast with butter and jam then disappeared into the eating area, which was only a ragged table and three chairs.

It's too quiet.. It's only been a few minutes into me eating and it's just too quiet. "Hey.. uh.. Haneul." She looked at me with a curious look.-- Haneul Cha, my big sister. She's 19 and very quiet but loves talking when she gets the chance. We don't have the best relationship when our mother moves away, but we exchange words occasionally, never a full conversation-- "What.. are you planning to do today?" Haneul looked shocked at my question but joined me at the table, we had a bit of a conversation before my father walked in. Haneul went silent before swiftly and quietly leaving the room. He reeks. It reeks of smoke. Cigarettes, that's what I'm smelling. My father shook his head and pointed with his thumb over his shoulder, "Time to leave kid. You're gon' be late otherwise." He stated with a look.. One that's rather common but it was harsher this time. In response I nodded and got up, shoving the rest of the toast in my mouth and walked to the door, my father following behind. I looked over my shoulder to Haneul, who was looking back at me, I smiled and waved "Annyeonghi gyeseyo." She nodded and responded, "Annyeonghi gaseyo, namdongsaeng!" with a large smile. Her smile is very refreshing right before school. My father pushed me out the door, me stumbling down the porch stairs. I stopped, took a deep breath and headed to the car. I looked over at my father and shook my head as I waited for him to unlock the car. He unlocked the car and I slipped into the car, slumping in the seat once I got settled and buckled up. "Father?" I asked, glancing over at him. He grunted lightly, signaling I have his attention. "You good? You've been acting off all morning." He ignored me and started driving. "Did I upset you?" Again, ignored. I decided to shut up and look out the window, soon fading out of consciousness, disassociating for the time being.

I was once again in another world, but at school this time. "Nice." I muttered. I looked around to find someone familiar before feeling someone fall onto my back. "Oof!" I let out, stumbling to catch my footing before turning to see a small girl pressed on my back, her arms wrapped around me. "Who.." I started to speak before she spoke. "Hi baby!" She nuzzled into my back, tightening her grasp on me. "H..Hey princess. Someone's in a happy mood, what gives?" That voice. I know that voice anywhere. It's Soo-jin. She attends high school with me and she absolutely despises me. It's kind of odd how I'm with her in my dreams despite how horrible she treats me, but I won't complain. She's absolutely beautiful and has the best personality, she's known as the only loyal girl at my school. "Didn't you get my text? We're going on a date after school!" She giggled, I couldn't help but smile at that. "Sorry, I haven't been on my phone all morning so I didn't see it." As I spoke I grabbed my phone to look at her message. A date to Lotte World then to Daehan Theater. "Meet at your place after school?" I asked, receiving an even tighter hug, "Mhm! I'll see you then!!" She happily kissed my cheek and ran off to class, leaving me with a large smile." I chuckled and closed my eyes, once I opened them I was back in the car, sitting in the passenger seat, coming to a stop in front of my school. I groaned as I told my dad goodbye and got out of the car, walking up to the school doors. As soon as I walk in I see Soo-jin and her friends down the hall, talking near my locker, me and Soo-jin now making eye contact.
