"You're it, you're my person."
...
"Rudy!" I exclaim with a grin.
His eyes widen when he looks at me. "What do you want? I said I'm sorry. How many times do I have to apologise?"
I give him an innocent look and glance down at my lap as if I'm the most innocent human being on this planet.
"I wanted to apologise to you," I give him a half shrug, "I find reasons to fight with you. Every time we've argued or fought, it was entirely my fault. I take full accountability for it. As a token of my guilt, I baked you a cake."
I present him a slice of cake as I smile sweetly at him.
"No way," he raises an eyebrow, "This is another one of your tricks."
I frown at him and pretend to be offended. "Nope," I say, tilting my head towards Ayan who is feeding the cake to Tara. "I wouldn't pull off a trick on her, would I?
"And I'm genuinely sorry. It's fine if you don't believe me. No one ever believes me anyway."
As Rudy contemplates and considers, I walk up to Ayan and grab his arm. "I swear on his life. Everything I've told you is truth and only truth."
"You trying to kill me?" Ayan whispers beside me as Tara coughs, covering her giggles.
"Shut up," I hiss at him and turn to Rudy. "I wouldn't bet on my fiancé's life, would I?"
"Oh now I'm your fiancé?" Ayan gives me a flat look as he mutters, "Funny how you exploit my love for you."
What love?
I glare daggers and stick my tongue out at Ayan as he deadpans, "Even Tara is more mature than you." I snatch the spoon from his hand and stuff his mouth with cake, efficiently shutting him up.
Tara pouts at me. 'I'll buy you more', I mouth to her as she smiles gleefully.
I inwardly smirk as Rudy eyes his plate with interest before digging in. I rub my hands together and allow myself a brief smile before resuming my usual innocent look. The colour drains from his face as he starts coughing after swallowing the cake.
"Oops," I grin at him, "Is it too spicy?
"Drink this juice." I force him to drink the juice which too had been sprinkled with a whole container of chili powder and a lot of salt.
Surprisingly, trying to convince Mary to bake two cakes and let me sabotage one of them wasn't that hard.
Nope. Not at all. I just lied to her about how Rudy spiked my drinks the previous night.
Her face flushed with anger directed at him crosses my mind and I grin widely. The grin disappears immediately when Rudy spits out the juice... on my face.
"You deserved that," Ayan breaks into laughter, "sunflower."
"Yes, sunflower." Tara giggles.
Why God? Why?
I grin inwardly as an idea strikes my mind. Instantly, I force Rudy out of his happiness as I pour the icy cold juice on his head. Droplets of juice splash from the top of his head down onto his lap. The juice trickles down his head, making his hair stick to his face, soaking everything.
He looks at me in horror as I smirk at him and leave the room, swinging my arse out of habit.
Oh, shit.
"Damn," I hear Ayan whistle before he gets smacked hard.
...
"...she's back, Ayan."
"How's that possible? You must have been mistaken, Mary."
"No. I saw her. She stared right back at me before turning away. I followed her all the way to the market but she just disappeared."
"Why is she back then? I told her to stay away. What does she want now?" Ayan mutters sullenly.
"Who's back?" I ask as I enter the kitchen.
They both purse their lips as soon as they see me. "Nothing," they both mutter, startled like a deer caught in headlights.
"Um, I have to call my son. Excuse me," Mary says as she leaves the room in a hurry.
I scrunch up my face and ask, "Are you hiding something?" My eyes widen in realisation as I ask, "Do you have like a secret girlfriend or something? It's fine if you do. Not that I care. "
I really don't care.
There's nothing between us anyway so why would I be bothered if he has a secret relationship? But yeah, if he does have one, he should stop acting like he's interested in marrying me.
He looks at me in amusement before stepping closer to me, his hot breath fanning my face. I back away till my back hits the counter. He grins and places his hand on the wall, trapping me underneath him as he says huskily, "There isn't any other girl besides you."
His warm breath on my neck makes me shiver and I instinctively glare at him.
"You guys are so adorable. Can you please get married soon? You're my OTP!" Emily gushes as she gives us a cheerful smile. "Aren't they cute, Tara?"
Tara nods her head and grins at me. "I told her he likes her but she never listens!"
Ayan smirks at me before turning to Emily, "OTP?"
"One true pairing," I say, drawing out a sigh.
His mouth forms an 'o' in realisation. "Well, I want to get married as soon as possible too, Emily but she's not interested." He smiles at her sadly.
I roll my eyes, "I will only marry someone who I'm in love with."
He raises an eyebrow as he passes me a cheeky grin, "I just love how you always say someone, never even considering me as an option. One day, you'll let your guard down, Naira. One day."
"We'll see, Ayan," I pat his cheek and roll my eyes. "We'll see."
"And I'll just wait for the day you both stop behaving like children and accept what you're running from," Emily says, looking straight at Ayan who freezes under her stare.
Did I miss something?
