"I'm still a player. It's just that you're the whole damn game."
...
It's been an hour since Ayan and his parents left. I just rushed to my room and have been laying down on the bed, refusing to talk to anyone.
After Ayan's mother asked to set the wedding date in a month's time, I didn't say anything. I couldn't. It's as if my mouth was trapped shut. I can argue with people close to me for hours straight but when it comes to other people, I chicken out. Ayan is an exception. His entire personality begs me to defy him.
There's a knock on the door.
"Naira?"
I refuse to answer her.
I see my mother entering the room and I sigh. I cross my arms and wait for her to speak.
She looks visibly upset but I don't let that affect me. After all, she's the one who broke my trust. Her hair is tied up in a bun and she's running her hand over her face trying to come up with words to say.
I choose to make it easier for her. "You didn't find the need to at least tell me that you've been looking for a groom? Did you even ask me if I want to get married? Of course, you didn't. It must have been pretty easy for you to assume I want to, considering you just went ahead and did it."
"Naira, I knew you would never agree. You're twenty-six now. All of your friends are either married or engaged. I just thought that once you would meet Ayan, you might consider giving him a chance. Look, you don't have to get married so soon. Spend time with him. Get to know him. Take as many weeks as you want. We will wait for your answer. But don't say no without even trying."
I look at my mother and see that she really means what she said. I don't want to get married so soon. But I think I can give this a try. Ayan can't be that bad, right?
"Okay, I'll think about it. But I don't want you to pressure me into doing things I don't want to. Okay?" My mom smiles and kisses my forehead and leaves my room.
"For the umpteenth time mom. PLEASE CLOSE THE DOOR!"
How hard is it to shut the door while leaving? Everybody is always irritating me. I huff and shut the door.
I start working on the assignments for my students. I'm an English teacher and I teach English to class 11-12 students in a private school. Shaping minds is fun. Although kids these days can be so rude. I try to make them read at least one novel every month and I hold discussions about it in the class.
When I'm done, I decide to take a nap after replying to Siya. Siya is my best friend. We went to the same college and grew close. She's amazing. She's always there for me and I don't need anything else. She's the best friend I've never had. She got married three years ago so we text each other a little less than we used to but it doesn't bother us at all. I had told her about what happened and she found my situation funny. She laughed for five minutes straight while I just wanted to hit my head. She's the kind of person who would laugh at anything. She knows how to have fun and she's always making others happy. I text her that I'll go with her to the mall tomorrow. And then I decide to doze off. I haven't eaten much during the whole day and somehow I'm not hungry at all. So sleeping would make me feel better.
It's midnight when I wake up. Thanks to the constant ringing of my cell phone. I open my phone to see a lot of texts from an unknown number.
Hey baby
Babyyyy
Aww is my sunflower asleep?
Well, I'm bored so I'm just going to spam you till you wake up.
I even cleared half of my closet space for you :)

He even sent me a shirtless pic of himself! I decide not to look at it for long and quickly delete it. I know this is Ayan but messing with him sounds so tempting. So I text him, 'Who is this? That was just a one-night thing. So whoever you are, delete my number. I'm not interested.'
He texts, 'Aww baby, I didn't know someone else calls you sunflower too.'
Ugh. Nothing works with this guy.
I decide to text back, 'What do you want Ayan? It's midnight. Did you really have to wake me up?'
He texts me after a minute- Sweetheart, I just want to spend time with you. Is it a crime to spend some time with my fiancée?
'Don't push it, Khanna. How did you get my number?' is the only response I send.
'Ansh gave it to me. Enough of this, so how did you like the pic I sent you?' is his reply.
I decide to prank my brother tomorrow morning for doing this to me. I thought he felt bad for me. Brothers are the worst. Deciding to mock him, I reply, 'I've seen much better, babe.'
A few seconds later, I read the message stating, 'Baby, you won't say that when I show you everything I got.'
'SHUT UP AYAN!!!!!!!' I text him in caps.
'Aww, you're so cute. Talking to you is definitely the best part of my day :)' His words make me feel a weird sensation in my body. I curl my toes tightly to stop that and ignore it. It's nothing. He is annoying me so much that I want to hit him. Yup, that's what it is.
'Whatever. I'm going back to sleep,' I send him a quick text.
He sends me a pic of him pouting. He looks so adorable that I want to spend more time with him. I quickly push that thought away.
Good night, beautiful.
His text makes me smile. That smile vanishes as soon as I see his next text.
Can't wait for our date tomorrow ♡
