Chapter 10 - Put To Rest

Miya woke up when she heard the sound of birds singing from outside her window. The girl got up slowly while feeling intense pain in her stomach.

She observed the bandages wrapped around his upper arm and left leg. The girl turned back to the window when she heard that strange sounding chirp again. She returned to watch the bird perched on the tree trunk in front of his window. A bird, she thought for a moment. Bird?

She stood on her feet and hobbled closer to the window. The girl narrowed her eyes at the entrance to the academy. Is it just her sight playing tricks with her, or is the morning sky of the academy seemed.. cloudy? Everything looks darker.

"Good morning, Miss Frauser." Miya turned towards the unknown source of the voice. A man in silver armor was standing, leaning on his sword. "Do you know me?" Asked the man to Miya.

"I think so. You are Fraus Tigreal. I read the story about you from the handbook." Fraus Tigreal smiled. "I was assigned to look after you for a while." The man bowed deeply; saluting Miya.

"I should be the one bowing to you, Fraus Tigreal."

Tigreal raised his head and shook his head, "I am more amazed at you who have the same degree as me even when you are still studying at the academy." Miya shook her head and chuckled. "I only continued my studies after I got degree. Just like how my mother likes it."

"You want to be a Soldier of Light?" Miya nodded.

"It would be nice to serve the Land of Dawn by fighting on the side of the greatest royal family."

"Good morning, Miya." This time Miya recognized the voice. Fraus Tigreal immediately stood up straight and didn't move like a statue. "Morning, Aden." Aden came with his aide and some of his soldiers into Miya's room which was becoming increasingly cramped.

"Was your dream beautiful last night?"

"I didn't dream. But did you also see the cloudy sky today? Is Mr. Arga's protective sky alright? Usually he just ..-"

"Sir Arga could no longer protect us." Aden said in a slightly confusing tone for Miya. The girl frowned, "Is he returning to the Wizardian Council's mansion? Or is he being assigned ..-"

"He's gone."

"What do you mean?"

"Miss Miya," Aden's aide finally spoke, "Forgive my impudence. But last night there was an attack on the academy. Sir Arga has been detaining as usual as he is ..-"

"What do you mean?"

"Arga died, Miya."

Miya feels like she had just been hit by a large rock right in the back of her head. The girl sighed and blinked a few times, she took a few steps back and sat on the bed, massaging her throbbing head. "Arga was my guardian when I was little." Miya said, who was a little apologetic about getting up too quickly, "He is a cold one, maybe because of his origin. But he always knows what to do."

"We are sorry for your loss, Frauser Miya."

Miya shook her head and immediately looked up at all the eyes that turned to look at her. "Does my mother know?" Aden's aide and Frauser Tigreal turned to one another.

Miya thought they were just kidding when Arga has died. Every time she passed through a corridor she hoped Argus would jump out and surprise Miya out of her fear. But that did not happen even until she enters a room and saw her mother lying on the academy's hospital bed.

Her mother's condition was much worse than she was. Doctors and nurses were just as busy as going over all the data and medicines they had to give Madam Evangeline.

"Whoever attacked Madam Evangeline might want her dead. But seeing them leave in such a hurry I think they had just seen such a terrible force from that woman." Said Aden who was standing next to Miya, accompanying the girl.

"Do you have any ideas about who attacked ny house last night?"

"With that much power and entrying at night. I believe one of the Renum Daughter."

"Why did they come here?" Miya was actually lazy to ask for their reason. She might just get some answer like 'out of a desire for revenge' or 'just to screw up the system'.

"They probably already know that the Prodigy is at the academy and wanted to dried up your mother for an answer." Miya flinched and immediately turned to Aden to see if this stupid guy was joking in a situation like this. But the look on the man's face conveyed seriousness for all of his words. "It seems they want to torture Madam Evangeline so that she will open her mouth."

"The Prodigy is here?" Miya asked. "I'm not sure either. Nobody knows who he is. And I believe he thinks by coming here he will be able to hide."

"Whatever his reason to be here, my mother must've known something." Aden agreed with Miya's answer.

"Evangeline hasn't awoke yet." Miya turned to Odeta who wrote something on the clipboard containing papers containing patient data. "Queen Odeta, " Said Aden bowing to the queen.

"Just call me Odeta, Aden," The woman said with a smile. She handed the papers which she had written with prescriptions and diagnosis to the hospital doctor. Odeta studied as a nobel nurse in the Nayra Academy, taking classes of Herbs Medicine and Advance Handlement of Emergencies. It's not a strange nature to see her help the doctors around her.

"Will she be all right?" Miya asked, a little worried.

"Whoever that got attack like last night would definitely be not all right, Miya." Aden rolled his eyes.

"Aden is right. But she is in a stable condition. It seems that she just found something interesting in her dreams and decided to stay there a little longer."

"But the world of dreams is dangerous." Miya said remembering a lesson about a dream world that was very strange to the people of the Land of Dawn. In that world anything could happen.

The possibility of experiencing things beyond common sense is huge and sometimes a person could stay longer there because they think the world is the true reality. The greatest risk that can occur from living too much in the world of dreams is death. Because the body ones left behind in reality could slowly decay.

"The doctors here will take good care of her. I train them for this situation." Odeta smiled. Miya was stunned then nodded, forced to agree. She didn't understand her wats, but when Odeta confidently stated what she was thinking, Miya knew her mother was in good hands.

"Then," said Odeta as she walked over to Miya and led the girl to come with her, "I would like to have a private talk with Miss Miya."

Odeta takes Miya to the park on the other side of the academy building. The park was not the student's favorite to hang around because it was too far from the dormitory or canteen. She sat Miya on the edge of the fountain which was no longer functioning. "What do you want to say?" Miya asked while looking around. She started to think about a suitable idea to be proposed to the Guardians of the academy to remodel this dark and sad garden.

"You use it." Miya turned to Odette who was staring at her with empty eyes.

"Using what?"

"Your strength." Odeta bit her nails nervously.

"I have no strength."

"You have."

Miya frowned as she looked at Odeta who was sinking deeper into her nervousness. "I have no strength."

"You have." Odette hissed as she put her hand on Miya's forehead. Miya then felt a feeling of heat running through her body. The girl was familiar with that feeling. She had felt it before. But she couldn't remember exactly when. But Odeta is casting a speel on her. Forcing her memory to barge in, memories that Miya thought never existed.

"I can cast spells." Miya said with a gasp, trying to convince Odeta. "But I don't have light force in me."

"You can do more than a spell. A spell is only a small thing about you. You can do more."

Odeta's words increasingly forced the woman's power into Miya. Miya looked up while feeling like her body was being torn apart. "No, stop." Miya stood up, holding Odeta's arm with both trembling hands, "I beg you. I don't need this strength. Take it if you want." Miya finally begged. She lied. She knew she had the light force all along.

Odeta sighed. "Of course. You already know what it is." Odeta took her hand away from Miya's forehead. The girl fell down, her body cooled down again.

"What do you mean?" Miya asked while she still panting, gasping for air.

"Miya," Oseta lifted Miya to her feet again and then looked at her seriously, "You won't be safe here. In this academy. People are after you. You have something that can fix this whole situation."

"What is the situation?"

"This war. The misery this land has suffered for too long."

Miya swallowed her saliva, "Why me?"

Odeta put her hands over Miya's right and left shoulders, "Because you started it."

Miya has returned to her house. She walked in, climbing the stairs to her porch slowly. The girl could feel the wind passing from her feet from all the walls that had been left damaged by whoever attacked the house last night.

She remembered what happened with her last night. The same way he remembers what happened two years ago. And four years ago.

Whatever power she had is unusual. If that power is normal she will be taught to control it in classes. She could feel the power is increasingly powerful and can took control of her body the more si aged.

The girl opened the doorknob of her room. She looked around of her room for a brief moment. Feel a little strange to all of this. She left the window open this morning, so that the air in his room could be a little fresher. There was a slight smell of smoke, but Miya wasn't worried about it. She had gone through the kitchen to get a glass of milk and there was no stove on. Funny, she thought. The fridge is completely fine, just a little darken in some corners.

The girl put the glass filled with milk on the nightstand next to her bed. Miya sat on the bed then stared blankly at the walls, which were slightly burned like several rooms on the second floor. The girl let out a sigh

closed her eyes for a moment and sigh again.

She wanted to be quiet for a moment and let her increasingly chaotic mind put to rest. She has too much thoughts since the morning.

Her mother, Madam Evangeline, taught her this method when she was a child. The first time that the girl had accidentally used her strength. Her mother calmed the little Miya who couldn't function properly since then. Too shaken by the incident that she experienced.

She would close her eyes and clear her mind of all the bad thoughts she has. All her fears. All of her anger. Then the girl will be silent as long as she needs. Until she was completely calm.

Miya then opened her eyes.

There's an owl perched on her coat hanger.

"Hello, Miya."
