I looked at myself in the large mirror. I was short and thin. My ash hair was down to my foot and my red eyes were shinning.
I was finally clean.
It had been days since the last time I took a bath. I was able to clean myself from all the filth that I have collected in my body for the past few days of sitting on the side of the street.
"It fits you well Charlotte." A voice from behind said.
I turned around and saw a prim and proper lady standing behind me. She was wearing the same maid's uniform as I was but she looked more like a noble in it. Her red hair was tied up in a bun like a red rose blooming.
"Thank you, miss Astrid." I replied respectfully.
Astrid smiled at me before taking my hand and placing something in it. It was the Moon brooch, House Castellan's insignia that only those connected to their house can have. It was beautiful.
"From today on, you are Lady Mel's personal maid." She said with a smile. "And also a part of her personal guards."
I stared at the brooch in my hand, taking a deep breath, I looked at her in the eyes and nodded.
"I have already pledge my life to my lady and to Parsua herself." I answered. "There is no taking back."
Astrid smiled at me. I don't know of it was a trick of light, but I saw pride in her eyes as she looked at me.
"Then, you should start the day by going to her lady's room as she will be waking up soon." Astrid reminded me as she ushered me to the door. We walked together until lady Melody's room where she left me to attend to Her Grace.
I stood outside the door and waited for any sign that lady Mel was awake. I could tell she was still sleeping from her breathing which I could hear.
"You're early, Charlotte." A happy looking Sebastiene came from the side. "Good morning."
"Good morning too Seb." I greeted him. "I can't be later than my lady, right?"
Sebastiene smiled widely. "Of course. I cannot let my master wake up before me."
Sebastiene raised a brow at me, seemingly amused.
"I am still left in question as to how someone like you would accept being a human's maid." He mused loudly a few moments later.
Someone like me.
Yes.
How could a heavenly dragon god ever accept being a mere mortal's maid?
Dragons are prideful beings, unlike any other creatures, and I, Charlotte Whitescale, am a pure blooded one. A pure blooded heavenly dragon now worked as a maid for a human child.
I closed my eyes and reminisced the first time I saw my lady. I had just woke up from my hybernation and saw the world had changed. Not so much, but there were places, villages, that were there where it was not before. There were villages that were there before but ate now gone. The mountain where I used to hunt was now filled with unknown poison and the animals that I fed off of have shrunk in size.
I was confused at first, then I decided to move from the mountain to the village where I met two women on their way to the capital for the celebration. They gave me some bread and milk to eat on the way. When we arrived, I jumped off their cart and walked away to see this 'capital' they spoke of.
It was a place bustling with humans who were busy doing weird things. They seemed happy and excited about the heroes that protected them. I did not have any idea what they were talking about. All I know was that I was hungry and I was getting weak from it. I walked around until it was night time and I couldn't take the hunger anymore. I sat down on a dark corner and watched the people happilly dancing around. I prayed to the goddess Parsua to take me kindly.
I was already at my wits end when I saw her, my saviour. She was dressed lavishly for someone who was joining a party on the streets. The people I saw since I arrived were all dressed well, but not as lavish as she and the people with her were.
The moment I saw her, I knew that it was Lady Parsua who sent her to me. She did not even flinched when she was my eyes. When she offered me her hand, I did not even think twice before accepting it. The hand that saved me and all the people in that place.
I took a deep breath and opened my eyes.
"She gave food to a starving dragon." I said with a smile. "No other reason is heavier than that."
Sebastiene looked down on me and smiled. He knew what it meant to feed a starving dragon, he did so himself.
