Looking at the wide grassland in front of me, I remembered the patch of green that I stumble into during the winter hunt. Sebastiene told me that it could have been a blessed land. A piece of land that is blessed by the goddess of spring for fairies to live. This piece of land is spring all year long and anyone that passes into it will forget what they saw after leaving.
I was an exception though. I was able to recollect my memory after leaving the place as I was loved by a goddess.
"My lady, everything is ready." Sebastiene informed me.
After what happened during the winter hunt and how Athy cut off the second prince's finger during the celebration banquet, we have been staying in our territory and are doing some cleaning up around. There are still people who are doubtful of us after hearing the rumors that we were abandoned by the gods and goddesses.
The land we are in is at the edge of our territory where demon beasts have been running rampant and killing anyone who pass by. This land used to be a place where the villagers place their farming animals to graze on the green grass until demon beasts started eating the animals and the people. It was time to take back the area and clean up these annoying beasts.
"Haktor, tell everyone that they are free to kill all demon beasts, even the young ones." I told the knight general. "Make sure we leave no demon beast alive."
Haktor bowed and left to inform everyone and lead the knights on this fight. In the last five years, Haktor and Marrionne's strength grew enough to last more than five minutes against Sebastiene in a fight. They can even fight against Loki in his human form and defeat him.
It pissed off Athy of course.
Five years.
It has been almost five years since we last showed our faces outside our territory. There were a couple people who still send us invitations to balls and banquets but we would just send back gifts to politely decline them.
The sound of heavy breathing and snarling can be heard as demon beasts started to show themselves. The demon beasts looked like wolves but they were about three times bigger and had glowing red eyes. Instead of fur, they had black icky stuff around their bodies. I guess they could smell the flesh of humans standing in the grassland in their black armors. The beasts sniffed the air and growl hungrily with saliva dripping down their mouths. They must be thinking that our knights are their lunch for today.
Stupid.
The Knights of Noktis stood in perfect lines as they waited for their command. Haktor moved in between the lines until he stood beside his horse in front. He got on his horse and pulled his weapon from the side of the saddle.
In a single moment, all the demon beasts suddenly looked up and started running towards the knights. Haktor raised his weapon and the knights got into their formation.
The shields went to the front while the ones with lances got behind them, ready to pierce any enemy that comes close. The archers who were at the back got their arrows ready and at the signal, they all released it at the same time.
The sky darkened as the arrows flew up and descended towards the demon beasts. The demon beasts who were running towards the knights started stumbling down from being pierced by the arrows. There were still some who were able to dodge and kept running.
The demon beasts reached the knights but they were stopped by the shields which seemed impossible to break. They kept slamming their bodies at the shield, while others tried scratching or biting at it.
The sound of Haktor's voice could be heard as he barked orders in the middle of the formation. In a split moment, the shields started moving, giving just enough space for the lances to pass through and pierce the demon beasts. The movements of the shields and the lances was so fluid that it looked like it's flowing from where I stood.
I could already see the ending of this fight, victory for our knights.
"They have already perfected this formation." Sebastiene commented beside me, his hand on his chin. "This is the best formation for combat, I'd say."
"I doubt that." I replied, still looking at the fight below.
I can see that this formation was good against demon beasts who has low to no intelligence but not so when fighting those who can think and create their own plan.
Sebastiene raised a brow at me.
"They still need a lot more experience with different enemies before we can say that this is the best formation." I say without looking at him.
"They have been fighting for almost five years already, my lady." Sebastiene pointed out. "Do you still think they lack experience?"
I nodded. "They need a different kind of enemy, ones who could think."
"Unfortunately, we do not have much choice with who our enemies will be." Sebastiene smiled. "Unless, ofcourse, if we actually start one."
"We have been quiet for some time now," I smiled meaningfully at him. "I think it's time to show ourselves again."
Sebastiene's eyes glowed with delight as he bowed.
"Then, I shall prepare everything for your return, my lady."
