I live in the City of Water, to be honest it's pretty big. I help the firefighters once in a while, it's the usual swim practice, with the way our city is, a lot of people end up in the water. Most of the time people claim that they don't know how to swim, I think that it's just that they want to be rescued by them, considering that most of the people are women.
I can admit that the firefighters here are hot, as in ten out of fucking ten. Who knows, when this city finally sinks into the ocean, they can probably get better jobs that pay more. With every city, there is a darker side to it. I mean, what city doesn't have a shitty side to it? Well, to tell you the truth, the villain of this story actually wants to marry me. To be honest that is a little fucked up to begin with, he is also not my type. Besides, I don't like rich guys who also happen to be one of the biggest crime lords in history. I think I know what you're saying to yourself. Why doesn't he just kidnap me and force me to marry him?
He would most likely do that, but I am at the fire station half the time. Besides, I have my heart set on one of the firefighters. I don't know why, he seems different from the others. Do you ever get that feeling, when you know you have met the one? That's kinda what I'm going for, he isn't as good looking as the others, but I don't care. To me, beauty isn't everything, it's just a bonus. Well, let's get on with the story shall we? I know I talk too much, so I thought I should just shut up and let it start. Good luck.
"Hey Danny, come back for another swim?" This is Jack, he is the newest recruit. He still has a lot to learn, including, that he has to stop trying to hit on me.
"More like a swim lesson with your Captain. He is slowly doing better. It sucks that he didn't know how to swim." I reply.
"Yeah, and he says he was born in the City of Water. Just don't swim in the Toxic River."
I raise an eyebrow. "Now why would we swim in that?"
"Just saying, I don't want you two to be killing yourselves now. I'll be in the kitchen if you need me." He says and walks off.
I swear, he's really annoying, he even faked his knowledge of swimming to have a lesson with me. While we were talking, his eyes kept wandering across my body. Then again I don't blame him, I always come in my swimsuit, but still.
I wish I could tell him to fuck off, but I might get fired for it. I make my way over to the back of the fire station, and find Harper, the captain.
"Hey, looks like you're early this time." I tell him. "Usually you are at least half an hour late or something." I smile and dive into the ocean water.
"Yeah, you are right about that, this time I took the day off, so I can guarantee that I wouldn't be late." He dives in as well.
"Let's start with some deep dives, you been working on holding your breath?"
"Yep, I almost passed out once. I bet I can last longer than you."
"We'll see about that." I dive into the water and go as deep as I can. I look up and watch him follow me into the deeper part. His eyes haven't fully adjusted to the salty water, but mine have. When he reaches me, we stay there for a second, then I signal for us to go up. I reach for him and wrap my arms around him, staying on his backside. This is practice for when he has to rescue someone in a real situation.
We reach the surface and breathe in deeply. "That's pretty good I can tell that you have been practicing."
"Yep and it's all thanks to you. I couldn't be where I am today if it weren't for you."
I try to hide my blushing, but I don't think it works, I can tell that he is smiling on the inside. I can see it in his eyes. "I'm not that good at my job, I recently started it."
"Most girls would kill to have your job, and I doubt that they would do it correctly. You are different from those girls, you actually care." He swims us to shore, and we lay on the small shoreline. Staring at the light blue sky.
I blush. "That's true, they would only be in it to be with you guys. I am not really into that idea. But, I have to admit, I think that one of you has stolen my heart."
"Oh? And who is that?"
"I don't think I should say, it may surprise you, Harper."
"Why not? You can tell me anything." He lays on his side and makes direct eye contact with me.
I sit up and stare at the sky. "Well, he's very handsome, I think he is about the same age as me."
"Really?"
"Yep, want to know something interesting?"
"Sure."
"Well, it's actually two things. He is the captain of the local fire department and I give him swim lessons four times a week."
"Really? Well, he sounds like a good guy, I hope it works out for you. Have you told him about your feelings yet?"
"I just did." I smile.
He smiles back, and he leans in close, and rests his head on my shoulder.
After a while I stand. "I should go, it's past the time I have to be home. I have to feed my cat, she might be mad at me by now."
"Let me walk you home, it's the least I can do."
I shake my head. "No thanks, I don't want to trouble you." I grab my backpack that I usually leave here, and look through it. I grab a casual dress from it and put it on over a swimsuit. It's dark blue and it compliments my eyes and hair. I also put on my shoes.
"It's nothing, please."
I roll my eyes and smile. "Fine, but just this once."
He follows close behind, as we walk to my apartment.
We are about halfway to my home, when I see certain people hanging out by the alleys. "You need to go home, now."
" Why?"
"It's dangerous, go home and lock the door as tight as you can."
"But-"
"I said GO home, I don't want you to be hurt like everyone else in my life!" I run across the street, and down a few blocks. I stop for a minute and catch my breath, then I turn down the alley to my spot that I like to be alone in. I sit on the ground and breathe in deeply. "I know you are there, Izaya."
He comes around the corner from the other side of the alley, and leans against the wall. "Where have you been my love, it's been forever since we talked last. Are you avoiding me?" He's been stalking me ever since I bumped into him at the beach.
"Why do you think I haven't talked to you?"
He has jet black hair, brown eyes and he constantly wears the same outfit everyday. At least it seems like it, it's weird, what if he has multiples of the same outfit? Well, he wears this coat, so I know it's him.
"What do you want this time?"
"The same thing that I have been asking you, since we first met."
"No."
"Oh." He holds his chest. "You wound me my love. I will win your heart one of these days. Just you wait." He disappears after another minute or two.
I stand and quickly head home. "Dammit, dammit, dammit. Of all times he can appear, why now?" I look around my entire apartment, looking for my gun. I keep a Five-seven hidden in my apartment, I know it's against the law, but I keep it for emergencies. "Got it!" I take it out of its case and put it into a secret pocket in my new outfit. I put on a hoodie and some shorts, hopefully no one will notice me too much, I can't afford the attention right now. I leave quickly and head to Harper's house.
I knock on his door quickly. "Harper? It's me, Danielle."
I hear faint movement and then the locks on the doors are released. He opens the door slowly and smiles when he sees me. "Hey."
I push through the door and shut it behind me, locking it. "Are you okay? Did anyone come in here? Follow you?"
He shakes his head. "No, at least not that I know of. What's going on?"
"I need to stay here for a while, just to be sure that you are safe." I wrap my arms around him. "So glad you're safe."
I feel his arms wrap around my waist, I can feel myself lightly blush.
"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine." After a moment he adds. "What's in your pocket?"
Oh, shit. "Nothing."
He looks at me, a little concerned. "It doesn't feel like nothing, what is it? You know you can trust me."
I sigh. "Do you promise not to get mad?"
He nods and steps back.
I pull out my Five-seven and show him. "I brought it just in case we get into trouble. I know it's against the law, but I don't have a choice in this matter. I'm sorry." I look away from, avoiding eye contact.
He smiles at me and lifts my chin. "Don't worry, I trust your judgment."
I look into his eyes, looking to see if he is lying, he's not.
He locks eyes with me, and leans in. His lips touch mine and he kisses me.
I'm surprised at first, but I kiss him back, embracing it.
After a minute he places kisses down my jawline and onto my neck. He takes the gun from my hands and places it onto a nearby table. He caresses my cheek and continues to kiss me.
He takes my hoodie off and places his hand onto my lower back. He smiles and gently bites my earlobe. "You know, you're very beautiful."
My face turns cherry red, and I find myself speechless.
He runs his fingers through my hair, and kisses me again.
Suddenly there is banging on the door, I quickly push him off me and grab my gun. I motion for him to get back, as I look into the peep hole in the door. Shit, it's Izaya. He followed me? I sigh quietly, I guess I should expect things like that from him.
He bangs in the door again and startles me. "I know you're in there Harper! Don't make me come in!"
I think for a moment and then open the door myself. "What did I tell you about following me?"
He smirks and pushes past me. "Well, this time I am not here to see you. I want to speak with Harper." He looks around the room and then asks. "Where is he anyway?"
I look around as well, thank God he decided to hide. "He just left, I came here to drop something off for him. So I suggest that you leave him alone."
He thinks for a moment and pushes me against the wall. "Well, I guess that means we're alone." He pins me against the wall with his strong arms and his hips.
"Izaya, get off me." I demand.
"What makes you think I'll listen?" He buries his face into my neck, and starts kissing me.
"Izaya, get, off. I do not want this." My face turns red as his kisses gently tickle me.
"I don't care, I want you, and I will have you."
I push against him, in an attempt to get him off me, unfortunately it doesn't work.
His hand reaches up my shirt and he starts to touch me. "You know you want this too, don't lie to me."
I notice his guards have left the room and are now standing guard outside.
He gently bites my earlobe.
I look around again, and see Harper peeking from a doorway, most likely his bedroom.
I mouth the words 'help me' in an attempt to get Izaya off me. I glance at my gun, and attempt to toss it to him.
The gun lands on his couch, and Harper slowly makes his way to it. He quietly grabs my gun and aims at Izaya's back.
Izaya smiles and pulls out a gun as well. But instead of a Five-seven, he has a Desert Eagle. Izaya's pistol can do twice the damage then mine can. It can easily blow your head apart in a single shot.
"Did you think you can shoot me while I'm not looking?" He turns around, and points his weapon at Harper.
At this point Harper is somewhat shaking while he is holding my gun. "Depends, how long were you going to defile her like that?"
The corner of his mouth perks up. "I plan on doing more than that."
Harper takes a deep breath, and looks at me. "Well, from the sound of things, she doesn't like you. So why force her?"
Izaya's smirk fades. "Isn't it obvious? I always get what I want, no matter the cost." He releases me from his grip and turns around.
I stretch out my limbs for a moment and look back at Harper. We lock eyes for a moment, and as if he knew what I was thinking, he tosses the gun into a corner and puts his hands up. "You can have her, it's not like I like her anyway."
I don't know why, but hearing this coming from his mouth, hurts a lot. I shake my head, and slowly go for my gun.
"What do you want from her?" Harper asks, trying to distract Izaya.
"I want everything. She will be mine and then she won't have to teach you lowlifes how to swim."
"We have to know, in order to help those who can't and connect the hoses to the pipes in the water."
I quietly grab my gun and aim at Izaya. "Drop it."
He turns to look at me. We lock eyes and I hold my gun tighter.
"I know you won't shoot me Danielle. You don't have the heart, besides, you don't even know how to use the gun your father gave you."
I raise an eyebrow. "This proves that you don't know the real me." I pull the trigger, and the bullet goes straight through his skull and into the wall.
The guards come in quickly and I kill them as well. At least they were easier to kill.
I look at Harper, and he puts his hands in the air as if I'm going to shoot him too. I drop the gun, when I shouldn't have. That is very dangerous to do when it's been fired. I think I'm Hyperventilating, and my heart is racing.
Harper comes towards me and wraps his arms around me. "It's okay, everything's fine now." His fingers run through my hair.
I don't really know what happens next, but the next thing I know, I'm lying in bed next to Harper. After a while I get up and head to the balcony in the bedroom.
There is a slight breeze as night falls onto the city of water. To be honest, I love to go for night swims once in a while. It's relaxing, for me at least. I go back inside and change into my black bikini. I head to the closest beach-like place and dive in. I swim for a while and then I dive as deep as I can. I look up and watch the moonlight dance on the water's surface. I swim around for a bit longer, I don't know how but I can hold my breath for a long time.
I hear someone dive in behind me and grab me. They pull me up and when we get to the surface, I fight back. "Get off me!"
They pull me close to them and kiss me. "I'm sorry, I thought you were drowning in the water." It's Harper.
After a moment I kissed him back. "Don't scare me like that."
He runs his fingers through my hair. "I love you, and I will stay by your side."
I smile and look up at the sky. "Looks like the full moon is out tonight."
He looks up as well. "That it is, it's beautiful."
We both look at the sky and swim around for a while longer.
"Hey." He asks.
"What's up?"
"What are we going to do with the bodies?"
"Fuck."
