I was always courageous, brave, and happy. I did everything with a smile. But, the people around me were always afraid and sad. You see, being positive was a crime in my world. No one, no where could be happy. And because I was different from the rest, I was noticed everywhere. It was like I was the main character in a story. I don't wanna be noticed. I never did wanna become courageous or happy. I wanted to be like the rest.
But I was stupid back then.
"Alex?" The librarian popped up from the other side of the room. "What are you doing here all alone?"
"Just reading some books," I flipped to the next page of the book I was currently reading. He stared at me, his hands on his hips. I sighed, "What."
"You shouldn't be here so late. You could get both of us in deep trouble."
"I couldn't sleep anyway. Besides, what's the problem with staying here a little longer? No one will know," I smirked.
He started stacking the books I had already read, "Because it's breaking the law. You know that."
I roll my eyes, "So what? We both know that the laws made in Eclipsa are complete crap."
"Alex! Language,"
"I understand that the laws can be a bit overrated. But they are still laws," He places the books neatly on the shelf and takes my book. "Now get going before your parents get suspicious!"
"Fine," I get up and wave good bye on my way out.
While walking home, the sky is already filled with stars, and the moon is visible. Ring ring,
"Huh? My phone, mother is calling me!"
I answer to hear my mothers tempered voice, "Where are you? It's already past dark!"
"I know, I'm sorry! I lost track of time. I'm heading home," I answer in a calm voice.
She gasps, "Are you stupid!? Don't go out at night, don't you know that law? I've taught you this many times!"
"I'm already half way there, i'll be home in no time."
"No, it's too dangerous! Just go to the nearest house and call me when you get there!" Mother then hangs up the phone.
"Go to another house near by?" I look around, but can't see another building in sight. "Great, what to do now."
Perhaps I should have listened to the librarian that night. Or the future would have been a little brighter. But I was just a young mind back then, trying to find my way around things. I didn't know one night could have turned everything upside down.
