I let my guard down. It was like they could see past all my defenses. Around us the cafeteria was quieting down as more and more people finished their meals. Down in my plate I had no desire to eat. The importance of a name was clear to me but I never thought about mine.
- I don't have one. - I looked at the people sitting on the long picnic tables made of white plastic. - I'm just like everybody else here.

Together we left the cafeteria. The girls were discussing their surnames and saying each other's names at the end of every sentence. It was fun being around them. Watching those kids laugh and joke around brought up the odd sensation that I needed them more than they needed me.
