Chereads / The lost Legend of Cain / Chapter 3 - First Blunder

Chapter 3 - First Blunder

...

...

As I opened my very heavy eyelids with no small amount of trouble, a very deep voice reached my ears.

[Hey you! You're finally awake!]

...

...

'Sky Realm?'

Should I be disappointed that it's a world that I'm familiar with, or should I be happy since I at least know one or two things about my new "Earth"?

'It's good enough I guess.'

Just to be able to live another life, more so in a very exciting world full of adventure is something I should already be very thankful for. So to God or Whatever being out there who sends me here, I offer you my sincerest thanks!

But if I were able to choose, I would rather be transmigrated into the body of Kirito from Sw*rd Art Onl*ne. Oh, how I wish to bang those S-Tier waifus already. Though I guess that, if I failed to take over Kirito's body, then transmigrating into SAO would be pretty dull, after all, it seems like only Kirito's Dick is capable of turning on the switch of those waifus.

If not SAO though, I would not mind transmigrating into the World of  Eris(Konsuba). Of course, I won't steal those waifus with a few screw loose surrounding Kazuma. I'm content enough if I were to land Yunyun, that cute goddess.

And I think that even if I somehow transmigrated there in the body of an average adventurer, it would still be pretty easy to pluck the lonely flower that is Yunyun.

But the greatest reason I would want to go there would be none other than the iconic Succubus Shop that they have.

I'm pretty proud of my ability to imagine and describe things. So coupled with the ability to turn those dreams into more realistic ones? HMPH! I will be like a fish in the pacific. Those bitches who rejected me in school? Waifus from all sorts of different animes? I'd take my time tasting each and every one of them!

Ohh, you ask why do I think I'm in another world instead of thinking I was merely in a Hospital? Or maybe in Heaven or rather Hell?

The pain of death from before was still very vivid in my mind. Heck, I vaguely remember when I was able to turn to my spirit form for a few seconds and saw the very horrible state of my dead body in that dark room.

Blood flowing out of my head forming a pool of blood on the tiled floor, one of my hand lying in the toilet bowl, my other hand bent in such a way that it makes me doubt if bone-Kun is still hanging in there, and my legs sprawled in two different directions as if two lovers having a lover's quarrel. Hey my legs, better make up already won't you?

Though the most amazing thing, the first unscientific thing I saw in my whole life was about another part of my body.

All my body's blood already ran cold, and even other parts of my skin were already turning purple. Yet it was there, standing like a spear, holding the front lines even with the Kingdom's Defeat.

As if showing that it was a dragon capable of soaring the skies and not a simple snake on the ground, it was still raging and pulsating like it never knew what surrender is. It was truly able to turn my belief about Tenacity upside down.

If I were asked about one thing that I would be proud of in my first life, I would unhesitantly answer that it is the Dragon Spear attached to my trashy body. I'm sorry my boy, I was not able to let you rampage out in the real world. Sorry world's ladies, you were not able to know what a true dragon is capable of.

No wait, that's not even vague anymore. Anyway, that ruled out that I was in a hospital. As for the other two? The voice that just reached my ears was neither a Melodic voice possessed by Angels nor a Bone-Chilling voice from Demons and Devils in hell. So ruling out those 3, the only possibility left is, like in anime, manga, games, and novels, I experienced what they called an Isekai!

'Anyway. Who was that bumpkin who did not know of his place and dared to address me like we're of the same level?'

As I angrily thought so, ready to teach whoever that is a lesson, my blurry eyesight finally cleared up as my retinas regained their ability to focus.

"Yes, how are you?"

Holy Crap!- This guy is simply the most robust guy I've ever seen. Forget about Muscle Builders, even The Rock pales in comparison to this one! Well no matter how rough he seems to be, it is still common manners to treat him nicely. Yup, that's right! Let's quickly answer his question! I'm not scared or anything of being beaten up though! I'm just treating him with respect like how an upright citizen should!

[You talk funnily young man, ain't you?]

As he said that, I noticed a few other waves of laughter from my surroundings. But without paying those any heed, I decided to focus on the context of what the Very Burly Man just said.

'Funny? I don't think I was being that funny though-'

It was at that moment that I realized, as I remembered what I just did, and now even I myself was shocked.

What came out from my mouth when I replied to him wasn't a language that I was able to understand. It does not contain any tongue twister like words like Spanish, nor does it have the fast-riddle like words of Mandarin. It has a bit of sexiness of the french language, yet every word is on point, and have almost no similarities in syllables.

'What the hell was that?'

A bit panicked, since I don't know how I could survive without being able to communicate in this entirely new world, I tried to speak once again. But just as I was about to, a sudden tremble made its way from my brain to my entire body.

Languages, measurements, and little bits of memories. Suddenly, my panicking feeling settled down and was replaced by a sudden chill. I don't know what changed, but I know that something did.

[What's your name, Lad?!]

Opening his largemouth, the burly man sitting opposite of me said.

"Cain Altaire"

I said my real name to answer his question.

Ahh, that's what changed. Now, I no longer found mine nor the man's language foreign. It was as if it were my mother tongue, and each opening of the mouth, each syllable, and the word that came out of it made sense. Or rather, the one from my memory is the one that seems very unfit and unrefined.

Other than how I perceived language, I was now also able to accurately measure distance and other matters through my senses.

'This is pretty amazing!'

Indeed, along with the memories and the language, the most amazing thing that entered my brain is none other than this miraculous measuring skill.

On Earth, humans rely on prior knowledge to measure things. "How long is one meter?" "How fast is one second?" We consider those questions first, then only after knowing the answer would we be able to apply that in measuring our surroundings. Most of the time, we even do not know how to measure things by units, and instead, rely on a point of comparison to do so.

For example, one may know that normal body temperature is around 35 Degree Celsius, and can even use one's sense of touch to determine if another person's temperature is lower or higher than that. But ask that person, "How hot is 1°c?" and I can assure you that he or she can only describe it as "it's chilling!" or use another adjective.

Let's say that you let the person touch a matter that has a temperature of 1 Degree Celsius. Now, if you let the same person touch things that have varying temperatures of; 1.5 Celsius, 2.0 Celsius, 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0, do you think that person would be capable of accurately determining which has a temperature of 4.0? NO! Because our brain can only measure physical things using pre-learned measurements or points of comparison. Without using a measuring tool, and only our five senses, the brain can only perform rough estimates.

The same goes for distance. Without using a measuring tool, and only measuring it using our eyes, our brain could only provide a rough estimate.

Yet the new ability of my brain almost completely removed that flaw.

'I would have perfected my exams in Physics and Chemistry if I have this ability back then!'

First, all measurements that are being used in this world, their names, and equivalence to the other measurement have been imprinted on my brain.

Second, using my 5 senses, my brain is now capable of converting the data transmitted to it and accurately give measurements in exact numbers, and in all sorts of measurement types. If about length, then I can almost instantaneously know the measurement of a thing in my observation field whether it is in miles, meters, or centimeters. How OP is that?

But of course,  if the senses are being deceived, the brain can only convert mistaken data.

But the point here is, I do not need to learn from scratch on how measurements in this world work, and I do not need to ask for a point of comparison before I can measure things in my surroundings. I just need to slightly focus, and my brain would already provide me the Hotness, Length, Width, Passage of time, and etc. through information from my senses alone.

Moreover, I got the feeling that all inhabitants in this world have been instilled with these pieces of knowledge from the very beginning, and used that as a basis for everything they make without exception.

'So this is what they meant as being a Phenomenal Genius?'

Basking in the glory of my newfound ability, I could not help but think so. Heck, even right now, the distance being covered as we move was being measured by my brain through the vibration traveling from the ground and onto my skin.

'Wait movement?'

At the exact moment, I questioned myself, all the other senses of my body finally returned.

I hastily looked around, and that is when I was finally able to have a general grasp of my current situation.

I'm on a cart that spans 5 meters in width. Pretty big I must say since even buses only have a width of 2-4 meters at most. While in length, it is 7 meters, which is pretty long as well.

Other than me, there are 9 other passengers on the cart including the burly man. They are the ones who laugh alongside the burly man when I first spoke. So in total, there are 10 of us here.

The cart is being carried by 2 very big looking monsters that look like Earth Dragons in Japanese fantasies. They each measure at least 10 meters in height and more in length. They are fastened with glistening metal bars to the carriage, yet strangely, those metals sometimes bend like rubber depending on the movement of the beasts.

'So I guess other than the special ability to measure through the senses, and my language being adjusted, there's no other thing that was different for me. At least, my common sense is still mostly similar to an Earthling, it being broken after seeing these fantasy-like creatures.'

But still, although I cannot see the bottom of the wagon, I'm pretty sure it was still being supported by round-shaped wheels, as this world still works almost the same as Earth in terms of physics, other than things that were affected hugely by mana, based on the measuring information I got.

'Though the same cannot be said in terms of biology.'

As I looked around, I stared jaw-gapping at the hundred meters tall trees at the least, and some trees that seemed to reach the clouds.

The trunks of the trees according to my observation are at least a few meters thick, and the branches themselves are all at least a meter in thickness. God knows how much force is required to fell such huge trees.

'Now that I think about it, there seems to be no one driving this wagon.'

But only when I took a double look was I able to realize the existence of 2 small humans each sitting on the necks of the two of the beasts.

Though they may look small, with long beards that reach up to their chest, I'm pretty sure they are still 100℅ a human breed. They are not even remotely similar to dwarves, and also the term 'small' is simply because they are sited too closely along with the humongous beasts.

As I was sitting on the side of the wagon, I was also able to peek at the side of the wagon. Although I cannot see the wheels under the wooden wagon, I was able to see the road we are moving on.

The road is nicely paved, with grey-colored stones that coat the soil. Not only that, but the road seems to also be magically enchanted, as considering that we are moving in such a huge entourage, meaning that we weigh very heavily, one cannot find any large tremor spreading on the road. Moreover, no marks or uneven surface can be seen on it.

It was also at this moment that finally, I can focus on having conversations with the talkative giant(It is better to call him this since 'burly' is an understatement of his build) in front of me.

[Are you sure that's your name?]

But his next question was already enough to once again send me into the wallows of confusion.

'What does he even mean?'

Cain Altaire, that is my name and I'm pretty sure of it. Even back on Earth, that was already my name. It was really such a great coincidence that the name of this young man I took over and my name was the same. How dare he ask me as if I'm mistaken about my own name?

"Then don't believe me if you don't want to!"

As I said that in a slightly irritated voice, I immediately regretted it.

'Fool! Think about your current place!'

As I was readying myself to humbly apologize at the first sign of the burly man charging at me in rage, I was made perplexed as instead, I was assaulted by roaring laughter from all around me.

With tears appearing out of the corner of his eyes, the giant roaring in laughter said to me with his deep voice.

[My Bad, My Bad! WAHAHA, I just didn't imagine someone so courageous exists who gives his name to just anyone! Confident much aren't we?]

'Wait what?'

As a feeling of trepidation swept me, a hooded adventurer, one of the 8 on the carriage except me and Giant-Kun, as if knowing what question I would follow up, unexpectedly took the role of explaining it to me more thoroughly.

[In this World, there are magics that can inflict death through one's name. No matter where you hide if you're inside that person's , and as long as they know your name, they would be capable of dictating your life and death. Of course, if you are stronger than the one who casts the magic, it won't work on you. This world is very strict with Mana, being the one with greater Mana would make you win most battles.]

"Does that mean one can randomly kill through Name-Based Magic as long as you know someone's name, they are weaker than you, and are inside this so-called ? Ain't that pretty unfair?!"

Along with my question, my voice also rises in volume, but how could I worry about that now?!

[Of course not! Mana stiffly follows the causal cycle, if such a strong exists, it would bind the owner of that magic one way or another. Maybe they'll have a hard time improving their base magic capacity, or using that magic would cripple them for life. Anyway, as long as you do not directly tell that Magic User himself your real name, there's no real danger.]

"Eh? How come? Is there another requirement to cast such magic?"

As I asked my second question, another one from the 8, this time a scholarly-looking one humored me.

[As far as the public knows about that magic,  it was said to follow the Theory of Stringed Fate to some extent. The theory of Stringed Fate talks about the fate that connects everyone. People who even as much as to simply bump into each other, or just shared one word were said to have already formed a connection called fate. They said that our spirit is capable of forming a connection with other in our vicinity. And that connection is another requirement to cast name-based magic. I forgot to add, the strength of that connection is based on your knowledge of the target.]

Coughing slightly, the scholarly man continued, his eyes glistening as if telling this knowledge is the most exhilarating hobby of his.

[You should have pieced it together by now don't you? In the chart of ways to increase a person's connection with another, knowing one's real name ranked pretty high on it, just below having intercourse and exchanging marriage vow, pftttt!]

Along with a repressed, sarcastic laugh, the scholarly-looking man ended his speech.

Yet suddenly all 3, the giant, the hooded figure, and the scholarly man spoke in unison.

[And who knows, maybe one of us here is capable of casting such powerful magic!]

As they said that, thinking that they scared me with their implied meaning, they roared with laughter.

Well, who can blame them for their small misunderstanding? This shitty road full of humps and uneven portions kept on making my knees shake. Oh wow, even my arms are convulsing now. What a Goddamn road this is!

Though in the deepest recess of my mind, I knew that a few minutes after my successful transmigration, I also succeeded in making my first and greatest blunder, effectively landing myself in peril.
