"You did a wonderful job last night, I knew I could always trust you," Stephanie said smiling at her.
"You can go back to your desk but keep me informed on how the products are doing," Stephanie informed opening a file on her table.
Lily turned to leave.
"And one more thing don't forget to pass my message to Mrs Stella, the production manager. Tell her to meet me in my office if she has any question or complains," Stephanie said firmly. From her tone, Lily notice the lack of familiarity in it.
"I will do just that Miss Woods," Lily said taking another gaze at her before she walked out of the office.
Stephanie worked tirelessly for hours without rest. The way she works was as if she was trying to escape from something.
Hours later, Lily walked into the office and saw her usual self conscious boss in deep thought. She could not help but wait a few minutes to see whether she will notice her presence.
"Miss Woods," Lily called meekly. She was stunned when she realised that her absentminded boss did not hear her.
"Are you ok boss?" Lily said loudly, her voice jolting Stephanie back to reality. She stares at Lily with a blank expression.
"What do you want Lily? I don't recall sending for you," Stephanie said pretending to be Ok.
"I know you didn't. I have messages to relay to you but before I do that I just want to know whether you are fine. Since this morning I have noticed that they was something different about you. When I asked earlier you said nothing was wrong but after seeing you in a daze earlier I can tell that something is eating you up within. Will the boss be so kind as to share her problems with me?" Lily said sounding so worried.
"I guess I am just stressed out because of the launch event ee just folded up," Stephanie lied without batting an eye. She really needs somebody to talk to about the truth she just learn yesterday but nobody will believe whatever she says. They will think that she is crazy if she reveals that she just learned last night that she was some vampire princess who reincarnated 2,000 years into the future.
She was certain nobody will believe that bullshit. Even she wouldn't have believed such nonsense if someone had told her so.
"Why do I feel like your sudden change has nothing to do with stress. I remember how you anxiously awaited this day and the positive feedbacks we are getting from the cosmetics. I am marvelled to see that the news about the success of purple magic does not excite you," Lily said her mind boldly. She could still recall how Miss Woods oversaw the preparation of the purple magic cosmetics collection just to avoid mistakes or negligence from the factory workers. She had worked as a horse without any rest so seeing her like this feels so strange.
"A lot of things had happened in my life just within the span of nine hours. I am having a pretty hard time processing those pieces of information but despite all these I just want you to know that there is no course for an alarm. I need a good night sleep which I am certain I won't be able to get for days after the truth I just learned last night," Stephanie said finding it difficult to arrange the words properly. She felt so confused and muddle-headed. After everything she heard, she was surprised she didn't go crazy.
Lily stare at Stephanie in confusion. All she couple pinpoint from all the lengthy words she just spoke was that something happened last night and whatever happened she was having a hard time accepting it.
"Lily, just forget about me and relay the message you have for me," Stephanie said adjusting herself properly in the executive seat.
"The first message is from your brother Mr Clifford. He called to ask whether you have eaten your meal since you didn't respond to his usual alarm text message. He got so furious with me when I informed him that you haven't tasted the slightest thing such as water since you stepped foot into the company," Lily relayed shuddering when she recalled how furious Clifford was.
She believed that he would have slapped her hard on the face for not reminding Stephanie to have her meal if he was there with her during the time they had the conversation.
"I know how mean Cliff can be when it comes to anything that concerns me. Knowing how overprotective he is of me, you shouldn't have answered his call," Stephanie said feeling so terrible for Lily. Today is the first time Clifford has gotten so furious with her and it was because of her negligence, she can imagine how terrible Lily must have felt.
"Boss, you don't have to say that to comfort me. You should be scolding me for not doing my job properly," Lily replied calmly.
"I am not comforting you. I am telling you these because I know just how much Cliff can nag. When he is furious, believe me, he nags more than my mum or Vicky," Stephanie said forcing a smile on just to cheer up the low-spirited Lily.
Lily smiled when she saw the effort her boss was putting to make her happy.
"What about the second message, from whom was it from? Clark?" Stephanie asked curiously.
"No, Miss Adams...,"
"Gabrielle?" Stephanie asked surprised to hear that her best friend is back from her trip already.
"Yes, she said she has been calling your line for the past thirty minutes but you didn't answer the call. She called the company's line to make sure that you are perfectly ok," Lily relayed the messagee calmly.
"Gab called my line? How is that possible...," Stephanie paused when she checked her cellphone and saw 40 missed calls from both Clifford and Gabrielle.
My phone isn't on silent so why didn't I hear the phone ring when they called so many times?
Stephanie wondered as she stares at her phone.
