Chereads / Lotus and the Demon / Chapter 20 - Angry Fiance

Chapter 20 - Angry Fiance

When Tomoko mentioned to the drunk that I was in fact, was going to be his wife became paler then a snow. As if he had suddenly turned into a ghost.

"You- you mean that human?!" As he points at me he snorts in utter disbelief. I hear a low growl from Tomoko beside me but I put a hand out in front of her before she decides to do anything.

"Yes, I am human but that has nothing to do to with the fact that you abused an innocent woman!" I feel my anger rising within my body and my face increasingly more pinched.

"I won't take orders from some human girl who doesn't know who she is taking to." He gets up tries walking back inside but Tomoko stops him.

"Your not allowed inside."

"What kind of treatment is this! I demand to speak with Orochi!" He yells at the top of his lungs and into the shy above him.

"Why do you need to speak with me?" In seconds, Orochi's voice is heard from behind and I jump a little scared that he was here.

"How are you here?" But he ignores me because his attention was directed at the drunk man causing problems.

"How is this human girl going to be your wife?! She isn't a demon, she has no significance to her and she is able to talk back to me like she is higher then me? Not only that she cut my cheek open with a damn fan! Get your woman under control! Or I will-"

Suddenly, Orochi steps forward, gently putting me behind him as if he was using his built body as a shield to protect me. "Yes, she is a human 'nor is she a demon. But," I peak from behind him and see his face.

His eyes were glowing a strange bright yellow and his body became tense like rage was erupting like lava. "If you dare, speak lowly of her again. I'll take that pretty little soul in your body you so cherish and have you rot with the damned. Is that clear?"

I look to see that the drunkard was shaking by the dominating presence of Orochi's anger in the air, it was like as if the air had froze in fear as well.

His body was visibility shaken to the core like a child. I put my hand on his forearm trying to calm him down, "Orochi it's okay, I don't think-"

"Ren."

With him mentioning my name in such a sharp demanding voice, my mouth closes and I immediately to quiet. "Since she is to be my future wife, she is above anyone here and you will. Listen and respect her like you do me or even more. Now get out of my sights."

He looks at me intensely like I was manipulating him into saying those things but Tomoko clears her throat giving him the acknowledgement that he needed to leave. With the drunk leaving, Orochi turns around, "Did he hurt you at all?"

"No, I'm fine. I am only concerned about the poor maids."

"They are fine. Tomoko will take care of them." I hear her footsteps fade behind me clearly following her orders.

The silence comes over us making it awkward and look at the nearest tree trying to act like an preoccupied. "You cut his cheek didn't you?" He breaks the silence first.

"Yes, I did. I thought he needed to be taught a lesson. No man should treat a woman like that." I start walking away from the scene as Orochi easily stays in step beside me.

"You need to be more careful. You could easily given away that you are a Slayer. If he wasn't rock bottom drunk, he would have easily pieced together that you are. He might even comeback to his senses and do it."

"Well that's his problem. No one will believe that a female was able to do that. Especially, a human."

I feel a warm hand pulling me to a stop, "Just because your a human or a female doesn't mean that they won't hurt you."

I look at him and try to find another point to prove him wrong but he cuts me off, "Demons are relentless. They don't care about the people they will effect or how to will effect them in the future. If they want something, they take it without hesitation. Remember that. Or you will get yourself killed.

"Then I see why Aiya hated them." He looks at me but starts walking off again before I could say anything else. Did I offend him?

"Aiya didn't hate them because of their reckless decisions, it was the fact that they could live and have that knowledge they killed people for their gain at a simple cost. Demons to her where mindless killing machines."

We both fall silent as we walk out separate ways. Maybe I did go a little to far with that comment but it isn't like demons have a perfect picture. They picture humans as weak and pathetic creatures who's life span is too small.

I enter my quiet room and go lay down. My mind fills with all the events that happened today from the kiss, the horrible treatment of the maids, the drunk idiot and to Orochi being a little bit overprotective.

I can defend myself now but it seems like I have a lot of unknown knowledge what how the demon world works. I only know the life in Orochi's estate, and nothing of the cruel world humans say it is.

Maybe one would call it ignorance but others would call it a hidden chance. I lay on my bed and think of all the possibilities in the demon world. Could anything make believe be here? I met a fish woman for God's sake!

Nothing seemed dull here and looking back at my world it was the same thing every day, could my parents still be looking for me or have they given up already?
