Chereads / Diary of the Dead / Chapter 30 - A Ragged Plushie

Chapter 30 - A Ragged Plushie

My eyes were closed, but I could feel the presence of joy surrounding me. I opened my eyes and stared at the beautiful women who was reflected on the mirror. My hair was nicely tucked on one side, and there was a tiny tiara in my hair. My eyes looked anxious, as if I was really worried what will happen next. The shy smile indicated that I was indeed anticipating something good. I glanced below and saw the white beautifully lacing my shoulders and reaching till the floor gracefully. It was a beautiful white wedding dress, that I was wearing.

I was lost admiring myself in this form when I heard someone knock at the door. I turned around and before I could respond, a tiny Asian lady wearing a beautiful maroon dress walked in.

"Getting cold feet?" She tilted her head slightly as she smiled.

"Never been warmer." I said very softly. Even I did not recognize that voice, even if it came out of my mouth.

I looked back in the mirror and wondered how is this beautiful lady me? I have never felt this graceful. That woman held my shoulder from my back as she whispered smoothly.

"I wish you all the happiness in the world Gina. After all you have been through, you deserve this win." I smiled hearing that, it felt very reassuring.

"Thanks, Shirley."I expressed my gratitude to my best friend, who was there for me ever since I have known her.

"Tim won't be able to take his eyes off you today" She teased me and I chuckled.

"That's the plan, from now on he should only look at me" I smirked. She laughed at my boldness.

"So, I know you told me photography is a strict no no, but it's your wedding. Having no pictures is the worst!" She whined.

"Shirley, No!" My face became pale, almost as pale as a ghost. "I know you mean well, but you know how much I despise being in the pictures." I trembled with fear as I recalled my reason. What reason was it? I couldn't quiet remember that.

"I knew you would be like this, see this is why I brought you this old traditional film camera." She rolled her eyes. "You don't want you pictures getting public, I know that. My cousin has a booth, who will develop these for us. Don't worry, I'll make sure no one else sees your photos."

"Do you really have to?" I whined as I pursed my lips.

"Yes, do you know what I gave up for this? This is my cousin's personal camera, and he will himself develop these photos, because he owes me one since I was twenty. That's right! I'm calling in a decade old favor just for this! Please, this is really that important for me" She whined now. How is this woman thirty, I'll never know.

"Fine, you can do that, but I have two conditions...." She eagerly nodded her head. "...You will ask me before you take any pictures, no surprise shots. And not more that five photos." I laid my terms

"What!? Only five? It's a big ceremony..." She eyeballs popped up.

"You are right, zero was much more better." I give a big fake smile to her.

"No! I can work with five, five is more than enough for me." She jumped.

I smirked at her before I heard a few knocks at the door again.

"Come in." I told whoever was knocking.

"Hey there, how is the blushing bride?" A tall, handsome, muscular guy, who was wearing a double breasted tux asked me.

"Very annoyed at her best friend." I looked at Shirley suggestively, who punched my arm lightly as she pretended to be offended.

"Tell me about it, I have to deal with her everyday." he said

"Cam!!" She whined, before all of us laughed at that.

"Why are you here by the way? Where is Tim?" I asked him. "He is doing alright I hope."

"Not really, he is dying to see you. I might have to physically restrain him sooner or later, or else he will come here." He chuckled. "I brought this for you." He handed my a small box on top of which there was a little note written 'To Virginia Stone'.

"What is this?" I asked him.

Cam shrugged. " At first I thought it was a wedding gift, but it only has your name on it. So I guess it's just for you."

I took the box and wondered what was inside it. I put it aside and chatted with them for a while.

"Let's go now, the ceremony is about to start. Good luck" Cam told me as he pressed my shoulder lightly.

I was about to pick up the flowers when that same box caught my attention again. Why not open it right now? The curiosity was killing me anyways.

I opened the box and there was a ragged plushie present inside it. Its arm was torn really bad, which was stitched back in a very unprofessional way. There was also a tiny handwritten note inside right below the plushie.

'Hey doll, Congratulation on getting married. I really hope this union lasts till DEATH DOES YOU APART.' Love-V

Suddenly I heard thundering throbs of my heart, my eyes widened, and I began to sweat profusely. I clutched my chest as I started to feel suffocated and fell down on the floor. The pain and the fear was just too much. Something, which I couldn't recall terrified me to my inner core.

I shut my eyes tightly before giving a huge scream.

"Hey!!" I opened my eyes and realised Oliver was shaking me. My whole body was trembling as if I just woke up from a nightmare.

"What's going on with you?" He asked, clearly concerned about me.

"..." I could not bring myself to say anything as I re-imagined everything that I witnessed from the scratch. What was that? another forgotten memory. A memory where my happiness transitioned into fear? There were still a lot of pieces missing, but what if that note was a threat send to me? What if there was a particular reason why that woman targeted me, apart from being a look alike? No matter what I just could not stop thinking.
