Chapter 48 - The same face...

"Wait! I just realised something…" Oliver looked at me as if he had nailed a jackpot. "that voice. I have heard it before, personally!!"

"This again?" I raised my eyebrows at him and looked at him derisively.

"Hear me out. When I used to stay with the mobs undercover, there was this guy we were supposed to meet up with. But it was super secret and no one has ever seen his face. He was one of the few people who knew who the head supplier was. Even I was not supposed to see or interact with him whatsoever. I was hiding during the exchange and that's how I heard it."

"You sure?" I asked him just to clarify. What does that woman have to do with that? Is she a criminal? Has been one way before my murder?

"Yeah, pretty sure!" He exclaimed.

"What do we do now? We have to tell someone!!" I started to jump around with excitement and anxiety.

"Let's go back and tell our folks." He said.

After that we tried to leave as soon as we could. Since we were quite far away from the Paradise, we decided to take another bus. Throughout the whole way I could not stop panicking. Exactly what was that woman capable of?

"You sure took your time today, there better be a good reason for it?" Margaret, as hostile as ever, raised her eyebrows at us.

"There is, hear us out what happened." I told her.

Both of us narrated the entire situation exactly as it happened. I was wondering whether or not should I mention the Lucy incident, but even before you got into that Margaret threw a fit, as usual.

"You idiot!" She burst out at Oliver. "You should have followed him properly! You are a ghost!" She kept accusing Oliver. He frowned just like before, so I defended him.

"Being a ghost is still pretty new to us. Let's not blame him completely". I said.

"According to Oliver that guy is dangerous right?" She raised her eyebrows while she tried to calm herself down. I nodded at her, encouraging her to continue. "Why do you think she met up with him? What if she is trying to kill someone again?" She said.

"I am aware of how serious the situation is, but we are not going to get anywhere if we keep blaming each other like this. All of us are doing our best." I tried to explain to her calmly. She looked at me for a moment, then simply just nodded at me.

And just like that we continued with our daily routine. Ken was quiet reluctant to go to the office, but he won't say why. So he decided to follow Timothy the following few days. And one day he kept me company with Momo.

It was another weekend, and knowing how they spend their weekend together I decided to keep an eye on them by myself. All of them were really doing their best to help me, they deserved a break. I should not take their efforts for granted.

Around evening I decided to return, knowing nothing will happen, when 'Virginia' received another suspicious call. The person on the other end seemed to be somewhat concerned. All I could hear, after focusing my enhanced hearing was 'Things are still the same. Over the past few weeks I have observed no significant changes.'

I had no idea what the person meant, however a satisfied smirk on her face made me curious. Which is I followed her when she left the house. All she said prior to leaving was that she had some urgent business. I got on her car, which drove for a very long a long time. Things were risky because I had no idea where we were. The place looked very secluded, hardly anything was present in the vicinity. It appeared as if we were on the countryside.

In the twilight, I followed her inside the building she went into. The place was really old and broken. On a highly rusted banner, it was written "Campbell Health Centre."

Why was she at an abandoned hospital? Just when I thought she couldn't get more cryptic.

I followed her into the hallways, with the sun set and everything so dark, this place indeed resembled a horror movie. She seemed unbothered by its unnerving ambience, while I found it chilly even as a ghost; oh the irony.

Her heels clicked louder in the empty hall, her pace fastened and I tried to keep up with her. There was a tiny bit of light coming from the end of the hallway. Someone came out from that room. It was harder to see him in this environment, but from his voice I could make out he was the one who called earlier.

This woman sure knows spooky ways to contact strange people. First that weird phone call, then that mask man, then this abandoned hospital. What was this woman?

She talked with the man for a while, she was too careful, that even I could not hear her. For some reason I avoided getting too close. I wondered what should I do? That day Oliver tried to follow that guy, should I try the same? Will this guy lead me anywhere?

I expected this woman to leave first, but was surprised when that man was the one who made the first move. When he passed in front of me I noticed he was wearing spectacles and had a surgical mask on. I could not make our properly if it was the same guy or not.

I turned back to see 'Virginia' go inside that dimly lit room. I contemplated for a while what should I do? Should I stay or follow her. I ultimately decided to follow her to find out what she was hiding.

The more I approached the room, I felt this unexplainable tinge in my heart. Like I was not going to be comfortable with whatever I find out. The smell hit me differently. Have you ever been to a hospital and felt, 'ugh! Not this smell again' because it has a typical smell? That typical scent was absent here. This building was so old it smelled like dust and rust. But somehow even that seemed familiar to me. Did I ever come here before?

I Peeked into the room and froze with shock! There were monitors, all around which implicated that they were functioning The bed attached to it was occupied as well. I tried to see properly, but due to my angle and the way that woman was standing, the face of the person is blocked.

My nonexistent heart trembled with fear. Just what was this woman doing here? I was a ghost right? Why hide? I convinced my weak heart to be brave just this once and went inside the room. I looked at the person who was laying in the bed clearly. The moment I saw it the face I stood there frozen, with utter shock.

I saw the same face that was standing next to her, lying in the bed. Only there were few bruises and marks. The same face, that I saw in the photos of their wall smiling. And playing with our daughter. The same face I gazed into the mirror in my vision of the wedding…

In my own shock I ended up blurting, "Is that me?"

Like a reflex, the woman turned and looked at me. It was evident that she could see me now clearly, but her expression frightened me, while it should have been otherwise.

She gave me an evil smirk and simply said. "Hello Sister".
