CHAPTER 45
~3rd Person POV~
Descendant of the dragons...
Do you hear me?
"Who are you?"
Listen, you must never let that tragedy happen again...
"What tragedy?"
The...tragedy...
"Where am I?"
Cain woke up in a familiar place. He is now standing on the main public square of the academy.
It is really quiet, the only sound that you can hear is the small gust of wind circling around the square.
"Where is everybody?"
Cain muttered after asking so many questions to the mysterious voice.
But the voice didn't reply to him and just show another scene.
This time, he is still standing exactly in the same place but...
The whole academy is now in a chaos, there were black smokes everywhere and the buildings are all destroyed.
"Why does it feel like my mana is gone?"
Cain felt something from his body. It seems that his mana ran out.
Then another scene appears and he witness may students lying down on the ground near him. Some are still breathing and some are already dead.
"...Wha--?!"
He lift both of his hands and saw blood in it. Soon, he realized that it's not only on his hands but his whole body is stained in blood.
"Did I do this?"
Cain's hands began shaking.
"No...no way, it can't be!"
It's been a long time since his gift went out of control. He already knew how to control it somehow but why did such a thing happen again?
"Delie!! No!!!"
Cain heard a familiar name from an unfamiliar voice. He gulps for a moment and saw the light brown hair and light brown eyed girl lying down on the ground full of blood similar to the other students.
He saw a male student...no, he looks more like an alumni student wearing casual noble clothes running towards her. His eyes are full of tears as he saw her bathing in blood.
The guy looks like the third year student he encounter when he was talking to that La Eclahs girl in the library.
"Did I also...?"
Cain remembers how his mother is also the same when she died. Although Cain can still feel a bit of energy coming from her...
"She...she's still alive?"
Cain can't help but feel a bit relieve when he realize that the girl is still breathing.
He was about to go to her slowly until he heard a cackle near him. It sounds like a woman...
He turns ro the direction where the cackle is coming from and saw a girl with long golden blonde hair laughing at him, her face is all black though.
"Who...?"
Before he could say another word, the golden blonde woman faded and his whole world turn black.
"What is going on?"
A flash of light woke him up from his bed in his dorm room. He was catching his breath and he can feel a bunch of sweat streaming down his body and face.
"Another weird dream..."
He whispered as he tries to calm himself and brush his wet hair.
It has been so many years since he saw another dream again. Various scenes are popping in his mind again, he remembers how he feels like he had been inside the academy a long time ago even though it is his first time entering.
He decided to take a short bath in his own classy bathroom before drying himself with a bath towel. He only wore a black trouser pants with no shirt at all making him half naked as he sit down on his own chair that he brought from his home.
He doesn't have any roommates since he is still a son of a powerful duke and has a royal blood running through his veins that's why he's given a special room of his own.
And another reason is that no one dares to become his roommate. Angeal had to take Derrick with him to cover other people's suspicion, of course.
He took one book from the stack of books in his small table which is mostly about the dragons. Some even are books of fairy tale stories related to dragons but Cain thinks that those might help him either way.
Ever since he saw the La Eclaus girl collapsed when a sudden scene flash in his mind with her all bloody in the final day of the academy fair, he had been having weird dreams or more like nightmares in recently.
As he open a book, he saw someone knocking on his dorm room's window.
Cain's brows crossed, annoyed as soon as Angeal disguised as Eros again opens the window.
"I'm here again~!"
Eros jumps down from the window right inside Cain's room.
"Didn't I tell you not to enter in the window again?"
Cain reminded Eros who just snickered.
"Did you? The last time I used the door and knock, you immediately smack my face in your door and didn't even let me take a step inside"
Eros asked Cain in a mocking tone. Cain ignored him and proceed to ask him a question.
"Why are you here again?"
Cain asked Eros as he began to bite a chocolate bar beside him.
"Nothing, I just missed my cousin~!"
Eros walk towards Cain who just gave him a glare.
"You just went here on Monday, leave"
Cain didn't even gave him a glance when Eros ask him why he was half naked, why is he reading a bunch of books again and the pile of chocolate bars beside him.
"And--"
"Stop asking nonsense questions and leave"
"And to think you look hot without any shirt on...if girls saw you like that, they might DIE of nosebleed"
Cain notices how Eros emphasize the word 'DIE' to tell him something. Of course, it's Eros and he is the type of person who likes playing other's mind.
"Heh. I'm not surprise if they DIE being scared of me instead"
He knows that no girl will look at him since the first thing they will see in him is that he is scary. Cain also emphasized that word so that Eros will realize that it doesn't scared him anymore like he used to be when they were young.
"Today is the third day of the Match-up event, are you really not going to watch even for a day?"
Eros asked an uninterested Cain.
"It makes me sick seeing you around me even with a disguise, what more when I saw that old man of yours"
Cain isn't that scared of the emperor that he can even say such insulting words about him even infront of his own son. He only feels hate for him.
"Makes sense"
Eros just chuckled and shrugged his shoulders, agreeing to what Cain just said. Cain knows that Eros doesn't really have that much attachment to his father similar to him; to the emperor who only sees his only son as another subject. A typical monarch and subject relationship, nothing else.
There was a long awkward silence before Eros begins to talk and finally break that silence.
"You know, the young master of the Vi Claross is a good fighter! He is the one who got the most points in the third years of our empire!"
Cain didn't say anything and just flip another page of the book he is reading.
"What's his name?...Arthur! Yes, Arthur Vi Claross! His father Adrien Vi Claross is the right hand man of the emperor, it is expected that his son will be my right hand man too in the future!"
Again, Cain just stayed silent and flip another page after he is done with the other one.
Arthur? Where did Cain heard that name?
"I heard that Arthur Vi Claross and Delie La Eclaus known each other since childhood!"
Cain is trying hard to ignore everything his cousin is saying but Eros noticed his discomfort so he continues to tell him more with a teasing smirk.
"I also heard that the young master Vi Claross likes her and that he almost became her fiance--!"
Eros suddenly stops when Cain accidentally spit the chocolate he just bit.
"Cain, you alright?"
"...Get off!"
Cain swat off Eros's hand when he attempts to touch Cain. Cain just continued to cough for a bit.
"...It is rumored that he still has feelings for her--"
He was cut off again when Cain finally speaks.
"I get it, stop now...why are even telling me those things?"
Cain is getting mad right now while Eros's smirk grows wider.
"...Are you perhaps jealous or--"
For the third time, Eros's words were cut off when Cain tugs his uniform's collar and looks at him straight in the eyes.
"Say one more word and I'll throw you out of the window"
Cain's window is very far from the ground. In fact, his room is in the top layer of the dorm building except for the rooftop.
"Easy! I'm just teasing you"
Eros actually didn't expect Cain to be so pissed. He thought that he'll just shout at him at best.
"Nevermind; Just leave already and no matter what you do, I won't go to the arena"
Eros sighed and nodded smiling. I guess Cain doesn't really want to go no matter what.
"By the way, I want on a date with Delie yesterday! Hahahaha!"
Cain was about to look back at him when Eros had finally went out of the window to escape Cain's enraged face.
After seeing Eros off, he went to sit back on his chair and think.
"I don't care if all of the boys of the academy likes her"
Cain's contempted face made him grasp of what he just said.
"...I shouldn't be concerned with something like that"
There are more important things that Cain needs to focus on.
He remembers how he unlocks two gifts before. What he knows is the 'black magic' that everyone fears which is another special rare gift like Angeal's 'light magic'. There was an old woman before whom he stumbled before entering the academy who told him.
"You must work together with them, you already have another chance...don't let that tragedy happen again..."
"Who are you talking about?"
"Her. She's back"
Something distracted him which made him look away and when he finally face back the old woman. She's gone.
The reason why he kept looking for books about dragons is about a rumored family history of the El Blancs having the blood of a dragon. Although none of it really makes sense since all of the descendant of the El Blancs are just noble people with normal gifts.
Another thing that bothered him is that the dragons have the ability to transfer one's soul to another world but in exchange, they will sacrifice themselves. For example, A used that ability to transfer B's soul to another world; but after transfering it, A's life will perished.
And it is said that the soul that transfers to another world will come back eventually after it was healed. But it was just another legend or rather a made up story that no one really believes. Another non-believable claim is that in this world and the other world, one is just an illusion.
"Just what in the world is really happening?"
Cain sighed burying his face in his hands.

~Delie's POV~
"Congratulations!"
Today is the third day of the Match-Up event. Arthur was the one who got most of the points in the preliminary rounds, he easily swept a lot of people using his gift which is the manipulation of wind to throw the other students out of the ring yesterday.
Me and my friends decided to congratulate my brother and Arthur for getting to third day. Kayle on the other hand just scoffs looking at Arthur with annoyance.
"Not bad"
Kayle commented looking away.
We are now in the back of arena where the players who scored most points yesterday are getting ready. There are also other students here congratulating the others.
"Daviwayvi!!"
We heard a high-pitch voice of a girl rushing to us.
"Gahhh!! I need to hide!"
David immediately run to hide.
"Be sure to come back before the event starts!"
Arthur yelled to David to remind him.
"Oh darn! He got away again!"
David's obsessive fiancee pouted and stomp her foot when she saw that David is already nowhere to be found.
"I think he needs to go somewhere first"
I told David's fiancee who just grin when she saw me.
"My, my! Glad to see you sister-in-law!"
She hugs me instantly which made my friends make a 'pfft' sound.
Yep, she's already calling me sister-in-law.
"Glad to see you too, Peggy!"
I tried smiling as I can.
"Is he your boyfriend?"
Peggy pointed her lips to Arthur which made me blush.
"No--"
"Hell no!! Delie belongs to me!"
Kayle interrupted us by standing beside me holding my arm.
"I belong to no one!"
I told Kayle.
"Hmmm, is that so? I thought he was since he keeps looking at you"
What? Arthur, really?
"He looks like a creep"
Kayle murmured before I pinched his cheek.
"You're mean, Kayle"
"So you're Kayle? That makes you my cousin-in-law!!"
Peggy tries to touch Kayle but he moves away and 'hiss' like a snake to her.
"No touchy!"
"But--"
"No means no! I don't want some random girl touching me and especially someone who dress up like a clown wench!"
"Kayle-!"
I was about to scold him when David's fiancee started tearing up.
"Clown..? Wahhhh!!!"
She suddenly run fast away from us.
"Owww!"
I smack Kayle's head.
"Everyone, please get ready for the next event! It will start after ten minutes!"
A student told the participants that they need to get ready.
"Well then, good luck again!"
I patted Arthur's shoulder who looks sad.
"Thank you, Delie..."
"What's wrong?"
I asked him.
"I just...it's Anne, I haven't seen her since the first day of the event"
Oh...Anne. I asked her roommate again but she really is an expert when it comes to sneaking out that even her roommate can't catch her.
A lot of people doesn't really care if someone is sitting on the top of the arena anyway. Arthur is still her brother though, of course he is worried.
"I'm sure she's fine"
I told him to ease a bit of his worries.
"Maybe she's worried about something that has been bothering her, as her brother...I can't help but get worried"
He sighed.
"You know what? I'll try finding her"
And tie her up if she dares escape my grasp.
"Really? Won't that be a burden?"
"No, Anne is a friend so she's never a burden"
He smiled and gently pat my head.
"That's one of the things I like about you..."
I can't help but blush, I'm still a girl after all with a gentle heart, just kidding! But he really does seem to be more like a big brother type.
David doesn't really act like a brother to me so I keep telling myself that Arthur is my ideal older brother figure.
"I need to call David to prepare"
He finally put down his hand from the top of my head and went straight to the direction that David hid.
Now, to find Anne!
I went to a bunch of different places in the academy to search for Anne. In the farm area where the same familiar magical chickens are glaring at me, in the shopping street, restaurant and cafes, the park, the square and many more.
"Where the heck is Anne?"
If I want Anne to be closer to the seventh prince, I need to get them to atleast see each other and be acquaintances.
I didn't realize that I was already dozing off and walking on the near-end side of the academy where just a bunch of trees are in here. This is such a secluded place, there's no way Ann--
"Hahaha! Really? I thought I'm the only one who thought of that!"
Is that...?
My feet are about to walk back away from this area when I heard Anne's voice.
"Yes, yes...I thought of that too"
I heard another voice, not a familiar one too. A sound of a young man! And he has a unique accent too!
I tiptoed getting nearer to the place where Anne and the mysterious man is. I hide behind a large old tree and peek to see who Anne is talking to.
A foreigner??
Based on his looks, he looks like a foreigner from Aidel empire.
So when I thought that Anne was seeing someone then my hunch is true?!
She's even wearing her school uniform, probably to hide herself within the students.
I can't see the man's face clearly so I move a bit closer.
"Zyton, do you perhaps like BL?"
What the heck, Anne?!
Isn't she the type of person who won't open up her real personality easily?!
"BL?"
"Yes, you know boy and boy?"
Anne grins.
"Hmmm...I heard it's been popular these days but I think GL is better!"
Gahh! Just who is he?!
I almost bump my head when I realized who he was.
No way...
Is he??
The seventh prince? Khalil Ra Satish? Anne's fiancee??
But why is she calling him Zyton?
"No, BL!"
"GL!"
"BL!"
"GL!"
Then they both started laughing. These two are more alike than I thought.
"Hahaha! We've been talking a lot these days, maybe I won't be able to meet you tomorrow"
The seventh prince who was wearing common clothes from Aidel told Anne who looks surprised.
"What?? Why?"
"It's actually pretty private, how about you? Won't you atleast meet the seventh prince you are talking about?"
"Nahh, he ditched me on the first day! That prince is so heartless!"
Anne!! What are you saying?! The seventh prince is the one who you are talking to right now.
I turn to look at the seventh prince of Aidel who just chuckled.
"I heard he will be coming tomorrow, why not come? Maybe your friends are worried for you"
"You're right...especially my older brother"
Anne sighed nodding.
"Well then, be sure to come tomorrow!"
He waves at Anne who waves back. Anne starts walking towards my direction so I purposely made a sound.
"Hm? What's that?"
Anne sounds terrified but she still slowly went to my direction. This is like some horror stories where a child heard something under their bed and instead of sleeping they will curiously look under the bed and bwah!!
"Anne..."
I grab her hands instantly.
"Eekk!!"
She screams.
"Found you!"
"D-Delie?! What are you doing here?"
She looks nervous.
"No, what are you doing here?"
I bounce back her question to me.
"Look, let's not talk here..."
She whispered to me.

We decided to go to the park and sit on a free bench with little to no people around.
"Haaa, isn't the water so beautiful?! It's so clear!"
Anne inhales admiring the beautiful scenery.
"Spill it"
I went straight away to her. She gulps for a bit before returning back to sit on the bench beside me.
"Alright, but please don't tell anyone yet!"
I nodded.
"Sure"
"Okay...where should I start? Actually, I...on the first day of the event; I was really angry at the seventh prince of Aidel for ditching me! Then I tried hiding from the people looking for me until I met Zyton, well not really Zyton but he just let me call him Zyton...we went to chat for a bit and I happen to know that he is a son of a baron from the Aidel and that he was suppose to be visiting his brothers since he is not yet qualified to join the event since he is a first year like us"
What a load of bluff.
"At first, I didn't believe it since he looks very similar to the imperial family of Aidel but judging from his clothes and how he can freely roam inside the academy proves that he is telling the truth"
Can't he be just like you? Who is great at sneaking out?
"We talk about some stuffs and all...and how he said that he also tries to hide his true self from others; I'm actually hesitant to tell him about myself but he already knows that I'm the prince's fiancee based on my clothes and then he asked me why I didn't go and I said 'He ditched me so I'll aso ditch him!'"
Anne...you're doomed.
"He started laughing and we decided to meet again in the second day; now for the third day, he told me he'll be not see me tomorrow and I should just take my responsibility"
As you should.
"I see..."
I nodded.
Should I tell her that he is the seventh prince of Aidel?
"Please, please! Don't tell anyone about this!"
She begs to me even holding both of my hands.
"I won't, I promise"
"Yeyyy!! Thank you, Delie!"
She hugs me tightly that I can barely breather.
"Wh...at..are...f..friends...for"
I told her suffocating.
The next day, brother and Arthur won the next round. It's finally the match of the duos, my brother and Arthur are now on the opposite team.
"Delie, is my dress too exposed?"
Anne asked me wearing the traditional Aidel clothes for imperial family before heading upwards together with the other imperial families.
"No, you look gorgeous! Don't be nervous and just greet the prince properly"
I pat her back and she exhales for a bit.
"I'm ready"
"Then I'll be sitting with our friends then"
She nodded so I went back to my friends.
Anne was already sitting there trying to look elegant even know I am certain that she wants to scream on how bored she is.
After a while, I saw someone heading towards the seat beside Anne who looks like she's about to explode from waiting.
Even though there's a match down in the stage, I can't help but stare at how Anne will react if she knew that the seventh prince is the guy he is talking to yesterday.
~3rd Person POV~
Anne can't take it anymore, she wants to scream right now at how the seventh prince is still not showing up although she admits that Daphne is also experiencing the same but worse.
"You must be Lady Anne Vi Claross, am I right?"
Anne sighed quietly before putting her mask into a perfect lady.
"It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Anne Vi Claross, Your Imperial Highness"
Like what the proper etiquette said, Anne was not allowed to look up at the prince without his consent but his voice sounds very very very familiar. Anne even curtsied perfectly.
"It is also a pleasure! You may raise your head"
"Thank you so much, Your Imperial Highness"
Anne's bowed head turns up and she was speechless when she finally saw the seventh prince.
"You act more different than yesterday"
The prince chuckled resulting in Anne turning into a stone when she realized that the guy she met, whom she called 'Zyton' is actually none other than the seventh prince.
Delie saw Anne frozen like a statue and as pale as a ghost so shw shock to see Anne in that situation.
"No, Anne!"
Delie murmured to herself.
