Bavarthos's men join the throng, fighting with blasts of battle magic and swords as they protect those that make the circles for the traps to take the magical essence from the Erl's troops. I stand with them slashing through the enemy, sweeping through with my blade making them fall with every sweep of my arm.
"REAP!"
The cry can be heard over our coms, reviving some sense into our battlefield insanity.
The ones drawing the circles have finished, instantly I snap back closer to our own front line, who thankfully, have stopped firing at us. The enemy move forward as we begin cutting into the endless deluge of soldiers still trying to break the front lines fragile hold.
I feel my breath catch as the golden light flares up out of the corner of my eye, striking down those reckless soldiers and feeding us with their magical essence. Knowing our next move, I'm snapping as I run my blade through the next row of soldiers, slaughtering any who fall beneath my blade or magical attack.
"BASE!"
The command comes over the coms and instantly we're behind the front lines of our allies already hearing the next command.
"READY!"
Stealing our selves, the ground begins to shake, sending soldiers to the ground on both sides, while we send our magical attacks to the dazed enemies.
The groaning and rumble of the earth, engulfs any other sounds filling every fiber of our being with its angry, vibrating roar.
Limbs shaking, my knees bob like a spring, threatening to lose balance and send me to the ground as a new sound cries out.
The awe and terror inspiring crack of the earth, snaps out across the sky.
"REAP!"
A flash of gold light flies toward me and others, filling us with a rushing warmth, pumping adrenaline through us, as Vartonix begins to rise from the crack in the earth.
Cries of terror fill every cell of my body as I watch Vartonix begins his deadly, crushing ballet across the Erlking's forces. I'm caught in the fearsome brutality and gruesome deaths, that Vartonix puts on display.
When the pressure changes around me and I hear the crunch of a boot behind me, my tunnel vision is broken.
Spinning with my blade ready to strike, I halt seeing Anzo.
"OH THANK YOU SIN! I thought I was going to be sliced in half! Come on! We need some help over with my platoon! No one is answering my call on the coms!" She shouts at me and turns for me to follow her before she begins to jog off to a spot of the front line that's being hit hard right now.
I use my power to send some shrapnel at the enemies they are having trouble keeping back, but stay where I am. She'll need to get help from another squad to help hold the area, she knows what to do when her coms are not working properly.
I sent some more projectiles to take out the next band of soldiers that are quick to take the ones who fell places, before turning my attention back to where I need to be. Another surge of power hits me from the golden lines as Vartonix rips through soldiers and attacks the stronger magical users from the Erl's armies.
I check on Anzo's squad, sending some more magical assistance their way, as they try to get a new com link tower set up farther back. Now that the giant beast Vartonix has the Erl's forces attention.
Hi is barreling through hundreds of men with his horns, their bodies flying like blades of grass from a mower. He bashes his club tail, obliterating anything caught by it, into unrecognizable mush. The magical users or MU's run in terror, when the realize that their magic doesn't protect them from this deadly beast. Run as the might, Vartonix spots them and pounces, making their efforts futile. Once Vartonix gets the majority in this section, he leaps and rolls across their lines causing an absolute massacre of bodies.
Then we're back out in the field, grabbing a few still alive and disappearing with them for interrogation.
"Sin, I am going to have to ask you to go back and help our people, we will get the information we need one way or the other from these." Bavarthos grips my arm. "Stay safe."
I nod and we snap back to the battle field. I take the moment to survey the smoky and scarred landscape with masses of bodies cutting through, blasting, screaming, bleeding, fighting, dying.
Even with Vartonix causing absolute chaos, I see where are lines of defense are weakening.
"Go help there, Deekin, Garift, you come with me. The rest go help where ever you see a need. Don't use too much magic until B shows up, unless absolutely nessecary." I get nods of affirmation, before I whisk us away to the weak areas.
The second we land, my katana slides from it's scabbard and is dirty from the blood of the soldiers head I just sliced off.
Growling in my rage, I use it to scream as we charge forward, hacking, kicking, blocking forgetting every thing other than the hell we are in. All I know is the extension of my arm that creates death as it moves, that I am still breathing as I pant to keep up with my need for oxygen.
Blood sprays in my face, coming from the mouth of the soldier I just stabbed in the chest. Pulling my blade from him, I notice movement from the corner of my eye and block another blade that was coming for me. I kick the soldier down, slicing at another that tried to catch me unaware.
I duck to avoid the blow of another soldiers fist and sucker punch him taking him to his knees as I stand and kick his head back sending him back a few feet, before slicing the soldier who originally tried to catch me with my guard down across the belly, disemboweling him.
Changing my direction, I charge at the group of hesitant soldiers nearby. Yelling I cut the two who stood frozen to the spot, the others backing up away from me.
Chuckling with sinister intent, I look at the others and whisper, "RUN." Watching them flee in terror, I laugh and pull my 40 out and take three shots each one falling.
Suddenly, I'm snatched and snapped away. I regain my bearing ready to fight and see that it's Garift. I look to where I was and see Vartonix jumping around crushing bodies and swinging his clubbed tail about. I nod my thanks and check the area.
"Let's move." I croak out. We are closer to the area that Anzo was asking for help with and we are fighting the tide back, the tide that just keeps flowing in. A golden line flows up to me and it strengthens me. My eyes widen with the rush and I begin sending shrapnel to the oncoming horde.
I pull dropped swords sending them flying ahead of me, distracting the soldiers for long enough that they don't have time to react when they see me coming. My blade goes through three before the others begin to fight me, using their swords.
Suddenly I feel a sharp tug in my abdomen, like some one had hooked me like a fish. I look down seeing nothing when suddenly I'm weightless, flying over the heads of soldiers, my limbs flying in front of me like a thrown rag doll.
I collide into the ground that is as forgiving as wet sand.
"Oh.. god." I cough up blood where I lay, unable to move, when I feel the tug again and go flying back through the air, screaming in agony. I see the laughter of the soldiers from the Erl's armies as the point at me flying to hit the ground again.
My vision goes black.
'Why does everything hurt? I hate alcohol.' I think to myself as I feel weightless, the wind rustling against my neck. My eyes pop open as I come into contact with ground again.
"Oh fuck!" I scream out, as my radius and ulna break through my skin on my right arm that I landed directly on top of.
I clear my head and try to remember the way to block magical attacks. I'm flying through the air again, when it comes to me. I drop to the ground, landing comfortably this time, popping my bones back under my skin so they will heal quicker. I can feel whoever is using magic against me trying to break through my ward, but I'm not as weak of a magical users as they thought I would be.
The soldiers are surrounding me as I look for my sword.
"FUCK!" I lost my favorite sword! These assholes are really going to regret this now.
My bones finally start fusing back together, so I pull my 40's from their holsters and immediately begin firing taking down a dozen soldiers that moved too close. I emptied my clips and stuck them in my dump bag, slam in my loaded clips and begin shooting me a path to move back towards where my forces were. Blocking the magical attacks while fighting made it to where I can not snap. If I drop the ward, I could go flying through the air again.
I am not repeating that little experience.
Golden lines race towards me, rejuvenating my energy and power. I stomp the ground with my foot, pushing some energy into it. A crack rips open making groups of soldiers fall into the five foot wide crack, that went down at least fifty feet.
I don't feel the MU's power attacking me at this point so I snap myself back behind our lines.
"Fuck man!" I yell out in frustration. I want my damn Katana back. I try to snap it to me, but it doesn't come to me since I don't know where it is. Some of our men look at me, unsure of what I was cursing about.
"Did anyone by chance notice where my Katana went, when I was flying around out there?" I ask some of the men who were watching the drones feed to help relay information to HQ about the situation.
Two of the men exchange glances and I zero in on them. "Tell me where it is, please."
"Your not going to like this, sir. It was picked up by one of the enemy soldiers and they took off farther back into their ranks with it."
"What in the world?" Confused as to why they took off with my sword, I let them get back to work.
My com beeps, Bavarthos is on the line.
"Sin, my men said you disappeared! Where are you now?"
"I'm back by drone surveillance. I'm heading back their way now." I start to make my way to his men, but he tells me something I was hoping to hear.
"Come back to my work room. There is someone here you need to meet."
