Chapter 7 - Dissection - Chapter 7

As I stared at his cold features, I didn't realize that Miss Grundy instructed us to start dissecting the frog. Not until Alec gave me a cold look that I picked up the scalpel and started. Alec wrote down the name of each of the organs after I carefully took out each organ and placed it beside the frog on the pan it was attached to. What surprised me the most was the fact that Alec never asked me for the name on one of the organs, it was like he could name them in his sleep.

I looked around the class and realized we were the first to finish the dissection. Deciding that I didn't want to confront Alec on what he told me, I took out the same book I was reading in detention and started reading. I read until I felt that someone was looking at me, I looked around myself and saw that Alec was staring at me with cold eyes.

I looked at his eyes and I saw that he had hints of orange accompanying the lime green in his eyes. His eyes contrasts beautifully with his skin and black hair. Suddenly, I saw a waving hand in front of my eyes and I snapped out of my daze.

"We're you staring at me?" he asked me with slight humor in his voice. My eyes widened and I started shaking my head vigorously. Pink crept up my neck and I started avoiding eye contact with him. The rest of the period went by in silence with me staring at my nails and him doing something on his phone. The intercom beeped, followed by Liam's voice.

"The results for last week's soccer tryouts are on the notice board in the school hall." he said. After that, the bell rang for third period. I made my way to my locker to get my books for my next class, AP History. Some might say it is the most boring class, and that includes me. Not because of the subject, but because of the teacher. Miss Lynde might be young but she sucks all the fun out of everything according to Roxy.

I entered the class and made my way to my assigned seat next to Roxy. She was the only thing keeping me awake in this class. The class drifted by in a humorless daze, until Miss Lynde was called to the Headmistress's office. Then all hell broke loose. Children celebrated by jumping up from their seats and walking to their friends to either share the latest gossip, or to talk about their latest conquests. All I had to do was angle my body to the right and I could speak to the best gossiper in the world, and, my best friend.

"So, when are you going to see Connor?" I asked Roxy suggestively.

"Tomorrow, but only to practice our scene for the assignment," she said as red crept up her neck and stopped on her cheeks.

"I can't wait for later today; we'll finally update your outdated tomboy fazed clothes and maybe get you some makeup." Roxy said changing the subject.

"Yeah definitely." I said as I looked down at my jean shorts, black shirt, white Levi's and my red and black flannel loosely on my shoulders.

The next thing I knew, everybody stopped talking mid conversation as we all looked at Miss Lynde with wide eyes and pale complexions. She slowly walked throughout the class with a disappointed look on her face while the clicking of her heels echoed in the classroom. She looked at each group, until her eyes landed on Roxy and I. She approached us and Roxy and I looked at each other with fear.

"What are your names?" she asked us sternly.

"Um, Emily and Roxanne." I said nervously.

She looked back up at the rest of the class and said, "Detention to everyone except Emily and Roxanne."

We looked at each other in confusion while the rest of the class returned to their assigned seats. The class continued until the bell interrupted Miss Lynde. We all got up and made our way to the cafeteria.

"That was weird," I heard Roxy say.

"Yeah, like why didn't she give us detention as well?"

"Maybe because we didn't move from our seats," I said, shrugging.

We entered the cafeteria and went to get our lunch. As we walked to our table, something even weirder happened. Liam made his way over to our table and smiled at me when we got there. I smiled back while my face started reddening.

"Hey, can I quickly talk to you?" he asked.

"Um, sure," I said after putting my food on the table.

We walked a bit away from the table and he asked, "I wanted to know if you would want to go on a date any time soon?"

"Yeah, sure," I said as my face reddened even more.

"When?" I asked.

"How about Friday?" he asked.

"Yeah, I can't wait." I said as I turned around and walked to the table.

"You've got to tell me everything," Roxy said excitedly.

"I'll tell you later on our shopping trip," I said back with even more excitement.

We all ate our food and talked about our day. I was still learning all of Roxy's friends' names. I already knew Jake, Luna and Jordan. Jake and Luna were dating and Jordan was a proud gay. Jake was a soccer player and Luna was into drama, while Jordan was smarter than our whole table combined. According to Roxy, they were all trustworthy and amazing people. I believed her, I just needed to work up the courage.

With me being a foster kid, people don't really trust me nor do they want to become friends with the broken teen in their school. I've never had this many friends since middle school and I was happy about that. I've known them for one week and I've never been this happy this year. Suddenly, a chill ran down my spine and I thought someone was looking at me. I frantically looked around until my eyes landed on no other than Alec.

I looked at him in confusion, but he kept my gaze, almost as if he had to keep an eye on me. To protect me from someone. That confused me even more and I finally broke eye contact with him. I started thinking about what he said during detention and it finally dawned on me that I haven't checked if Flynn had seen what I sent to him. I eagerly took out my phone and started searching for our conversation. Then I saw his reply.

Saturday, at the same place as last time at 12.

I looked back up from my phone when Roxy asked me, "Who was that?"

"Um, just Sam asking when I will be home" I said, shrugging.

The bell rang and we all made our way to our next class. I had AP Calculus with Jake and we walked to class together. Little did I know that the person who looked like he was keeping an eye on me was once again in my class. I sighed as I made my way to my seat next to Jake and sat down, taking all my books out of my bag. Let the class begin.
