Chereads / PARAGON: Where Wielders and Trained to be Heroes / Chapter 6 - Chapter 5 - Hoping for the Best

Chapter 6 - Chapter 5 - Hoping for the Best

"Don't you dare mess up!" my brother exclaimed.

"I told you I'll do my best!"

I sighed as I eye the blue sky. Yesterday happened so fast that I can't even remember how I did that stunt. Well, I was unable to walk after that match which made mom float me up to the healing ward, not to mention the amount of me whining in pain. That was utterly embarrassing!

Now I feel good as new! I really hope everything goes well as I planned. If I end up to be paired on someone that counters my talent there's no way I could manage to pull off a great strategy. I'd end up losing and surely I will 100% cry my butt off in bed.

We arrived at Jarred's house "Why are you picking him up? It should be him who have to do this kind of stuff" my brother whispered just enough for me to hear.

I opened my mouth to reply but closed it as I see the door slowly open.

"Syrine, Shio, Good Morning!" Jarred gave us a smile, a forced smile. He looks like he didn't sleep for a week or two. Poor guy, he must have been training so hard to master his talent, I mean it just showed up... I had mine since 7 years old and to think that I only mastered it now, it shows how much effort you need to exert.

Well, at least his parents trained him.

"Good morning Jarred" I replied.

"You look like you haven't slept for days" my brother stated to which Jarred replied with a maybe-I-did shrug.

We continued walking to the bus stop, Shio won't stop whinning how hot the weather was while Jarred and I talked to catch up.

To be honest we only parted for one week but it felt like an eternity. We weren't able to meet at school cause our parents excused us for training besides... classes won't even be held properly, the school was too busy preparing for graduation in which both of us will be attending the day after the entrance test.

"The bot then fell down from the sky in just one hit" my eyes glistened as Jarred narrated his training. It was so cool and extra, I can't believe in just one week he was able to improve so much. Dang, he's gonna rock the hero world.

I hope I would too.

Over that one week of training I hardly won, while Jarred here was explaining how easy it was to use his ability. Weewws it feels like all my pumped up energy flee off my body.

"And when I fought one of dad's assistant, the guy didn't had the chance to use his talent against me"

Oh god.

We entered the room and sat over the piles of plastic chairs. I looked around, some were nervous, some we're just calm, some we're even sleeping. My heart started beating like haywire and my body was starting to tense up.

"You look pale" my brother announced as he looked at me with teasing eyes.

"I-I d-do not?" I covered my mouth with my hand and breath in "I do not!"

"Sure" my brother responded with disapproving eyes.

I inhaled once more and squeezed my eyes shut. I can do this. I can do this. Just stay calm, don't let it show, you got this!

"Good morning examinees, please enter the white door to your right"

I can freaking do this!

I stood up with determination written all over my face. I'm gonna do my best! Make it or miss it... The important thing is I do my freaking best.

I looked over to Jarred that was now lending his hand to my direction "Come on, no time to lose" I accepted his hand then he playfully tugged me to the white door. I glanced over my brother and gave him one bright smile, but unintentionally I giggled when I saw his burning eyes toward Jarred's hand holding mine. Oh brother.

After entering the room we were given small card that determine our number and some more information.

No. 4560

Written Test - Room 12

Physical Test - Room 4

Dang that's a lot.

Jarred continued tugging me to the direction where the majority was going. His grip was tight yet gentle, and so did mine.

"Written test room 18" Jarred murmured under his breath. His tired eyes were searching the corridor were passing.

A little smile couldn't resist but to show from my face. I must agree that this man is extremely good looking, even though his horrid state right now is terrible he still seem so flawless and decent. His white hair bounce through every step we share, his busy blue eyes all worked up and alert, no wonder a lot of people wants to be on my place. Well, sucks to be them.

People around us eventually found their respective rooms making the corridor more spacious.

"Room 18!" Jarred pointed to the room then turned around to face me "Come on, let's find yours"

"No its fine, I can handle myself" I gave him a smile but hesitation was all over his face. Am I not that reliable?

"Are you sure wh—" I placed my finger on his lips "I'll meet you after" I slowly removed my hand off his grip then gently pushed him to room 18.

"J-just be careful" I chuckled "Stop spoiling me Snow White" my hands gave him a final push before waving him goodbye.

I realized how much I've been so dependent to Jarred, a hero must learn to handle herself on her own, and I must adopt that. If I keep Jarred spoiling me then who knows what kind of bratty hero I'd become.

Room 12

A gentle curve was formed by my lips. See, I'm such an independent woman! I can handle thing on my own without Shio or Jarred's help.

I entered the room and number of maybe 20 people were silently sitting down, all seems so serious and at their own state except for a guy who was snoring at the far back.

I quietly made my entrance then sat down at the vacant chairs on the front. Exam people really despise the front row, huh.

I pulled out a pencil then placed my chin on my hand. I closed my eyes as I silently review over the dozen of book Shio helped me study. That meanie is really helpful sometimes.

"Good morning aspiring heroes"

My eyes fluttered open as I heard the people at the back gasp.

O. M. G.

"Berserker" a mild squel managed to escaped my mouth as I admire this one of a kind hero in front of me. I'm so glad I sat here in front!

She sat on the table and put her right leg over her other thigh "I want you all to do your best! " she exclaimed as her magnificent cape flow elegantly behind her.

A guy entered the room and started handing over the test questionnaire "Becoming a hero doesn't just mean wopping villains with your fists" she raised her hand and pointed to the side of her forehead "To become a great hero... You must have tactics, strategies, approaches, and of course tricks up your sleeves" she intertwined her fingers together and hoped off the table.

She stood in front of us captivating every heart inside this very room "This sheet will determine how flexible your mind is, cause NO hero should be one trick ponies" she emphasised while crossing her arms over her chest.

I do agree. A hero with no plan is like an animal without instincts. Villains aren't stupid like what kids see in cartoons... So to counter that, a hero needs to have quick thinking skills, especially in times where everything goes the other way around.

"You have 1 hour to complete that, I'll be heading off, so don't do anything unlikely" she gave us a threatening look "You know what I mean" everyone nodded as we watch her figure leave the room.

Okay Syrine, what do we have here?

The questions are mostly based on certain scenarios, some were also the do's and don't with a big chunk of laws and regulations, a few questions about the importance of cooperation and on the last page... A question into which everyone expected.

Why do you want to become a hero?
