"Thanks" she said taking her clothes from the nurse who had helped her wash and dry her clothes. Luckily she had some money she had kept in her shoes, childhood habit. It was that she used to pay for the bus that had brought her to the hospital.
By the time she entered the hospital, her clothes were damped and her shoes were covered in wet sand. She felt tired, cold and frustrated. Thankfully she had brought along a few of her clothes when she was bringing Sky's things to the hospital, a week back.
Sky was asleep and so she took off her clothes and gave it to the nurse who took care of Sky. She had offered to wash and dry it for her and she gratefully accepted.
She went into the small bathroom in the ward room and stayed under the hot shower for about an hour, trying to get rid of the shiver that ran up her body. By the time she got out, her skin was already turning pink and the bathroom had been covered in fog.
She dressed up in her nightgown before sitting down on the sleeper sofa and closing her eyes. She didn't get to sleep 10 minutes when the nurse knocked with her now washed and dried clothes.
"Its no problem. How is Sky?" She asked and Raelyn turned to the closed door and back at the nurse
"He's okay. Sleeping I think" she said and the nurse nodded with a smile.
"That's good. I'll come check on him later" she said before walking away down the hall
Raelyn turned around and opened the door, she entered into the ward room and closed the door behind her.
She walked over to the sleeper sofa and dropped her clothes down on it before she walked over to where Sky laid on the bed, sleeping, and sat down on the white plastic chair that sat beside the bed. Almost as she sat, Sky's eyes fluttered open and they stared at her.
"Hey Sky.." She said with a smile, running her fingers soothingly through his hair. He managed a weak smile at her and let out a small groan as he shifted almost unnoticeably on the bed.
"Are you okay?" She asked quickly as she heard him groan. He didn't answer, he just shifted a little
"Are you uncomfortable?" She asked standing up.
"A little" he said, his voice a hoarse whisper. Honestly, he wasn't in pain but he wasn't in exact relief either. He felt uncomfortable and he had barely got a whiff of sleep. He was just closing his eyes, hoping sleep would come if he did so.
"I'll move you, just tell me when you feel comfortable" she said and he gave a small, almost unnoticeable nod.
"I want...want to sit" he said and she raised a brow
"Are you sure?" She asked not wanting to get him in an even more uncomfortable position
"Yeah, please" he said and she nodded. She walked over to the sleeper sofa at the corner of the room and carried the pillow that sat flatly on it. She arranged the pillow against the head of the small bed before slowly helping him to sit, his back leaning against the pillow.
"Thanks" he said weakly and she nodded, adjusting his hand so it didn't cause the drip to stop flowing.
"Its okay" she said and sat back down on the chair "How are you feeling?" She asked
"Better than last week. It was all pains" he said with a small smile and she frowned. "No, its okay. I'm fine" he said to her reassuringly but the truth was that he wasn't.
He hated the drugs he had to take and he mostly just felt uncomfortable laying in bed and being helplessly weak. Sometimes it was the pain. Mostly unbearable and he cried out of it sometimes, when Raelyn wasn't there.
He didn't want her to be more worried than she was. He saw her struggle every day since the past week that he had been at the hospital and he couldn't help the guilt that descended on him like heavy rain each time he saw her.
There was nothing more he wished for more than to be able to turn back time. But he couldn't, that was the reality.
"You will be" she said softly, plastering on her face a smile that they both knew was fake.
"How was your day?" He asked, hoping to change the subject
"It was great" she lied with a smile on her face "I was able to get some money from the bank and very soon, you'll get your surgery done and everything will be okay" she said, her voice unwavering
Even though there was a small feeling in his heart that Raelyn was lying, he still believed her.
"Thank you coco" Sky said with a small smile. A smile dawned on her face at the nickname. It was something he suddenly started calling her when he was 4 and the name just stuck.
The first time he had called her that, she thought he had forgotten her name and so for a week she kept teaching him that her name was Raelyn and not Coco. He didn't budge and he kept calling her that. She didn't know why but he did and over the years, she grew to it and liked it.
"Its okay. You'll be okay" she said brushing her fingers against his cheek softly
