Fenris stared at Ray wide-eyed and her mouth open. "Can you repeat that? You found your what."
Ray still smiling restated, "I found my mate! Fenny she's so beautiful and sweet but also strong and protective. She'll be the perfect luna for me and the pack. We met my first week at the other pack, her little sister was being picked on and I went up to help. When I got there I felt a spark on my arm, I looked down and there she was next to me looking up at me."
Fenris zoned out at this point, she couldn't listen to Ray go on about how he found the love of his life and how amazing she is. Now don't get her wrong, Fenris is happy for Ray she truly is, but she is also jealous. Scratch that, she is extremely jealous. She has always wanted to find her mate, the one person who will love her for her and not be scared of her. She can feel her heart aching for that connection.
Fenris snaps out of her lonely heart's thoughts only to realize Ray is still going on about his new found mate. With jealousy now turning to anger Fenris snaps, "Shut up!".
Ray freezes mid-sentence and looks at Fenris. He sees her eyes starting to glow and realizes she's angry, so he slowly backs up. He knows that if Fenris gets too mad she can lose herself to her anger which will lead her to black-out in rage for days or even weeks killing any and everything she sees.
"Fenris, calm down. I'm sorry." Ray states in a serious tone, even though he has no idea why he's apologizing.
Hearing her best friend's unusually serious tone seems to snap Fenris out of her anger long enough to realize that she needs to calm down. Closing her eyes she breathes in and out until she can feel her heart rate go back to normal.
When she has control over her emotions Fenris hangs her head and she opens her eyes, " No Ray, I'm sorry. I'm truly happy for you finding your mate. I just got jealous, you know I've always wanted to find my mate." she goes up to Ray and hugs him.
Ray quickly hugs her back, "It's okay Fenny. I know how much you want to find your mate. If it makes you feel better I won't talk about my mate anymore."
Fenris pulls back from the hug and looks at him with a small smile, She shakes her head, "No. I'm your best friend so I want to know everything about the girl who stole your heart. I also want to see your mate mark."
Ray's smile quickly grows to the one he had earlier. "Her name is Mary and she's in our grade. She has a sister who is a year younger." he goes all lovestruck, "She's just amazing, but you'll meet her tomorrow so you'll see then how amazing she is."
"Wait. What? Tomorrow?"
"Yeah I already told you, I asked her and her family to move into our pack so they wouldn't be separated. They said yes and so they're moving down tonight and you'll meet her and her sister tomorrow at school." he says with a 'duh' voice.
"I sort of zoned out after I heard how you two met." she says shrugging her shoulders.
Ray rolls his eyes with a small smile on his lips. "Do you still want to see my mark?" he questions.
"Yeah."
Ray pulls up the right sleeve of his t-shirt and shows her his bicep. On his bicep was a small almost tribal design outlined in a light brown.
Mate marks, nobody really knows how they appear or why. There used to be a deep meaning behind them but nowadays everybody just sees them as a sort of wedding ring. The marks appear on a person when they come into physical contact with their mate. A sort of slight burning sensation begins and the mark appears on a part of the person's body. The truly unique thing about every mate mark is that the outline of the mark is in the eye color of your mate. So some people have green or blue marks.
However every supernatural species has a different sort of custom to receiving the mark. For instance with Fenris' parents, her dad received his when he shook her mom's hand. But with Fenris' mom being a demon, even though her mom knew he was her mate, her mom didn't get the mark until she kissed her father. This means that Fenris has no idea on how she'll get her marks when she meets her mate.
"That's great man. Again I'm so happy for you."
Ray gets another dopey grin on his face and looks around. Fenris can see the hint of pink on his cheeks causing her to chuckle lightly.
"This is going to be a good year Fenris. I can feel it."
"Whatever man. All I know is after this year no more high school."
The two friends looked out into the forest and let the silence over take them. The growing darkness, not bothering either one because of their better eyesight.
"Come on Fenny, it's starting to get late and mom said she's making your favorite tonight, brisket and ribs."
Fenris takes off, "Race ya!" she yells back. She hears him chuckle and take off after her.
