Chapter 5 - Mate Thing

Chapter 5

ALEXA ROHAN

As the hour of the day went on, the sun climbed higher and higher, I could feel its rays blistering my skin. So I took a break and sat down on the ground under a tree.

I'm in training with my fellow knights of werewolves. It has been two months since I got here in the camp.

I'm in a special training participated by only the elites of knights of the Noble Blood Pack.

The camp is two hours away from the packhouse by plane.

"A penny for your thoughts?"

I chuckled at my friend's remark without taking a glance at her. I saw her smiled in the corner of my eyes and she sat down beside me.

"We're going home in a month—finally," she said.

"Home," I scoffed.

Carmen grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently.

If there's anyone in the world who knows me almost transparently, it would be Carmen Mullins.

She has been in my life through thick and thin.

A lot would say, a home is not a place but a feeling, when I have already forgotten how even that feels.

My melancholy seemed to speak my mind that Carmen squeezed my hand tighter.

"Wait till you find your mate, and his arms will be your home and your escape.

I smiled.

'mate'

My friend has always been passionate about meeting her mate.

She talks about it nonstop knowing I'm not so enthusiastic of meeting mine.

Well, I don't wish to live alone in my life. I just don't like the idea that a mate could either make me break my limits or weigh me down.

I hate uncertainties— I can't seem to embrace them. That's why I never gamble.

I tend to plan everything ahead of time. I'm an organize person. I always take the path where I know I would win— even at the expense of my happiness.

'happiness'

What's that even mean?

'tsk'

I hate the weaklings the most, their vulnerability.

… and I hate being weak myself.

I hate the feeling of helplessness— where you just watch the sufferings of the one you love; where you just watch how their life slowly be taken away before your eyes.

I'd been there once— and something in me died that day. There's no way my life would ever be the same again.

I sneered at myself.

The Moon Goddess has given every werewolf a mate; a partner, a lover to love in one's lifetime.

'tsk'

… when I even not know how to love anymore nor remember the feeling of it at all.

Looking at my side, I saw Carmen smiling dreamily by herself.

"Stop that, you look like an idiot."

She hissed, "Let me dream of my mate once in a while."

"Once in a while my ass," I objected.

"You've been blabbering 'mate' here and there since your first shift to the point where I want to lash out your tongue from your mouth."

She automatically covered her mouth that it looked comical.

"Who would not want to meet their mate?" She snarled.

'there we go again'

"The Moon Goddess will eventually let us find our way to them or their way to us," she begun.

"Then everything would be irrelevant Alexa; time, place, standards and circumstances."

"Like a magnet, we will be drawn to our mates; like we've known them for so long when we never have met them actually."

"They're like a stranger that we recognize; at first glance, at first touch and their scent— it intoxicates us."

"And the bond Alexa, the connection is so strong in a way that you have never experienced before."

"You'll fall in—" I cut her off by raising my pointing finger.

"Yeah, all of these coming from someone who haven't found her mate yet," I sarcastically remarked.

Carmen groaned and rolled her eyes.

"Everyone is saying the same thing Alexa," she reasoned.

"Talk me out when you found your mate Carmen," I glared and left her there.

"And I will laugh at you when you found yours," she yelled out but I paid her no mind. I just continued walking away.

"Wait till you find your mate and don't fucking come to me asking how you'll kiss him," she yelled again.

I stopped at my tracks, picked up a stone a size of a golf ball and threw it at her with my wolf force.

The girl smirked as she let me see the stone in her palm, boastful that she caught it.

I smiled, I knew she would.

She's one of the elite knights after all.

"Are you just gonna sit there?"

"We still got a drill to complete sweety," I said in a sassy tone.

Carmen got up and we joined the others.

"Hey Derek," she flirted as soon as we passed the man. He's a good looking guy that Carmen has her eyes on.

"So much for mate thing," I whispered to her ears.

She lifted a brow, "There's no rule written that I can't flirt while I wait baby."

I huffed.

'I can't believe this girl'

"Who knows my mate has been sleeping around too, you know," she added and left me to start her drill.

'huh'

'god this girl'

'tsk'
