Chapter 11 - Owambe Party

‪8:45 pm‬

N's POV

"Mike Benson" I repeated to myself while putting on a Forest green and maroon African print Dashiki T-Shirt with white jeans and black dress shoes.

That name and his face has been on my mind ever since Kalisha and I left the bistro. The black suit and the red tie he was wearing, his average looking face, and his voice that sounded like he had experienced a lot of rough training before. Which made me think, "Was he the one that killed my parents, burned my house, and sliced off half of my tongue?" He couldn't be. It wouldn't be that easy for me to find him, especially since I've been looking for the guy my whole life. Plus why would a police officer go out on a date late at night? Shouldn't they be at the station doing their job rather than lounge around?

Maybe, I'm just overthinking too much. Plus I shouldn't be stressing over some random white guy that I will probably never see again. I need to focus on Kalisha and this Owambe party (Yoruba Tribe party) she told me about for her mother's birthday.

I never met a real life vampire queen before and I can't wait to introduce myself to her mother. My worry is that I hope she doesn't think I'm not the right one for her daughter. Also I hope she doesn't get mad that I am wearing her late husband's attire.

I'm excited to see more African vampires. I want to know if they come from the same tribe. I also want to know there personalities and how they felt being vampires. Meeting Kalisha, Shani, and Jymia changed my perspective on how vampires feel and act. They don't sleep in coffins, they don't rely too much on human meat and blood, they are not afraid of expressing their religious beliefs, they don't find being a vampire to be a miracle, and they live life normally as they possibly can. So I wonder how the other vampires are feeling and live their own lives.

Shani is not at the house, Kalisha told me she is at her beauty salon helping out African female vampires look good for the Owambe, which ‪starts at 10pm‬. I did not know that she owned a beauty salon. But I respect Shani a lot. Even though she did slap me like three or four times, I understand that she was being protective of her sister. If I knew I had siblings, I would be protective of them as well. I wouldn't slap them, but I would show them some tough love. I like that she's helping out African women vampires. I now understand how difficult it is being a female vampire and I respect that she is showing love and support to other ladies.

Jymia, I honestly don't know too much about her. I haven't spent too much time with her or get to know her more. But judging by the little time I've been around her, she seems to be a carefree person. She does things her own way, she likes having fun, she jokes around a lot, and she is always happy about life. Which makes me want to thrive to become happy in life.

"N... I NEED TO TALK TO YOU!" Jymia called out my name.

I leave the guest room and follow the path where I heard her voice.

"I'm over here" she guides me.

I walk towards to the sound of her voice and I ended up in a dark room. She turned on the lights and closed the door. I looked at her and she is already dressed.

Jymia looked magnificent. She is wearing a purple sleeveless aso ebi, which shows off her cleavage and her legs. She match her outfit with a purple gele (head tie) and purple high heels. Her makeup is a gallery of purple; glittery eyeshadow, long lashes, eyebrows, eye-contacts, and earrings. Even her nails were purple. The only thing that is not purple are her smokey lips and the purse she is holding.

"Before you say it, I know I look good. Don't worry, you look good as well. Honestly, you look sexy. Kalisha is one lucky chika na." She said.

"Thank you. You look amazing." I tell her.

"Aww, you're welcome sweetie." she replies, pinching my cheeks.

"So why did you call me here?" I ask.

"I am here to tell you that you made Kalisha super happy and that the date was magical. Plus she told me that you had a huge bulge." She tells me, giving me a wink at the end.

"She told you all that?" I ask, feeling grateful that I made her happy but embarrassed that she told Jymia about my bulge.

"Yes ooo. She loves you very much and you left so many butterflies in her stomach tonight. Also when you both have sex, you better be prepared because she is into some freaky shit." She explains.

"How freaky?" I asks, raising a brow.

"You will find out" she replies, walking out of the room.

"Also she's coming out in the next 2 minutes, so be patient." She tells me, walking downstairs.

While I wait, I go back to the guest room and grab my parents jewelry. I never leave without them. I wish I knew more about my parents. The only new information I received is that they were vampires and I am born a vampire. I still want to know how they were like as individuals and if they were Africans or not. But I'm going to stop thinking about my parents at the moment, because I need to focus on this Owambe and...

"KALISHA IS READY! N, COME SEE YA BABE!" She yells out.

I go to Kalisha's room to see how my love looks. I open the door and when I walked in, I saw the most angelic woman ever.

She is wearing a over the shoulder strapped red aso ebi with diamonds covered on her dress and some cleavage is showing. The aso ebi showed off her sexy curves. She has on a diamond encrusted choker, making her neck glow and sparkle. There is a lot of nice jewelry on her hands and ears. Her face is making my heart want to burst out. Her beautiful dark skin is making tears fall from my eyes. Mixture of red and orange eye shadow with red lipstick looks like a work of art. She is wearing sexy black high heels. She is holding the cutest red purse I ever laid my eyes on. Saying she looked like an angel is understatement, she is life itself.

What got me tearing up with joy is that she finally showed me her short natural hair. Her hair is almost the same length as mine, but she has a bit more puffiness and height. She looked amazing without showing me her hair. But seeing her real hair is a wonderful feeling.

"Aww N, don't cry." Kalisha tells me.

"I can't help it, you look breathtaking." I said, trying to compose myself.

"Come here" she commanded, signaling me for a hug.

I hugged her; we hold each other with so much passion and care.

"You look breathtaking too" she whispered to my ear and I smiled. We let go of each other.

"It's ‪9pm‬, we should go before get there too late." I said.

"I agree. N? Are you still thinking about that guy?" She asks.

"I was, but he doesn't matter to me right now. This Owambe party and you are the only thing on my mind." I respond.

She smiled me and I hold her hands. We walked downstairs, witnessing Jymia waiting patiently at the door.

"You two are perfect for each other." Jymia said.

"Thank you. Is our personal driver here?" She asks.

A honk is coming from outside, which signals that the driver is here.

"Good, let's go" she said.

**********

10:01 pm

We arrive at the location of the Owambe. I am already hearing music blasting from the place, while we're still inside the car.

"What type of music are they playing?" I ask Kalisha. The personal driver gets out the car and opens the door for us.

"This is Jùjú music" she replies.

"Jùjú music?" I confusingly asks.

"Yeah. Jùjú means something being thrown. The music you are hearing right now, a lot of different sounds and instruments are all clashing together. It's mainly percussion, but there could be pedal steel guitar and experimentation of different African genres like Afrobeat or Reggae." She explains, getting out the car and Jymia following her.

"Oh. Who sings this song?" I asks.

"The song is called "Appreciation" by King Sunny Adé. He is a legendary Jùjú singer and his music gets played all the time in a Owambe party. So let's go and enjoy ourselves." She tells me.

I get out from the car, the personal driver closes the door. When I got out, I witnessed the most mesmerizing mansion I've ever seen in my life. The mansion is wider than two houses combined and it had four stories in height. Brown covering the roof and white surrounding the remaining exterior. The garden is breathtaking with trees and bushes all around. It has roses, lilies, irises, asters, daffodils, and many gorgeous flowers dancing to the cold wind. In the driveway, there is a small water fountain complimenting the lavish style of the mansion. There is a red carpet with body guards and servants inviting guests inside. A lot of guests are walking wearing the finest Aso Ebi, Dashiki, and fancy clothes.

There's a sign that says: "No humans allowed. No photos or video taping allowed. This is a private event. If you break the rules, then the bodyguards will throw you out."

"Wow, whose mansion is this?" I ask while being astounded.

"This is my mom's mansion." she replies.

"You serious? Your mom owns all this?" I ask.

"Yeah. She's the Yoruba Tribe Queen of Virginia. So of course she owns all this. Plus she got a lot more money and treasure than the bank." She explains, while I'm still in dismay.

"Come on, let's get inside and party!" Jymia yelled out.

We went inside the mansion, while all the guests and servants greeted us like royalty. The interior is more stunning than the exterior. All the walls are painted white, making it look like heaven. The floor is smiling with gold. There is a huge chandelier and a lot of lights brightening the place. There are flags of the Yoruba Tribe, Haiti, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Jamaica, and a plethora of Afro-Caribbean places and tribes hanged on the wall. There are a lot of tables set for the guests with white table covers, golden chairs, golden plates and cups, and the most exquisite alcohol and wine. There is a large space for people to walk towards the dance floor near the DJ booth. I notice some ladies warming up delicious African food and some guests giving them more food they cooked at home. There are some people dancing to the rhythm, while others are talking to their friends and family members or just using their phones and waiting for the food to arrive.

"I am lost for words right now." I said.

"Gorgeous isn't it?" She asks, giving me a smile.

"You could say that again" I replied, while chuckling.

Kalisha is hugging and greeting members at the party.

While we were looking for our place to sit, I notice a couple kissing and touching each other seductively. His hands are grabbing and squeezing on her breast, while her hands are rubbing on his bulge. I tap Kalisha on the shoulder to find out who the freaky couple are.

"Yes?" She asks.

"Who's the freaky couple over there?" I asks, pointing my index finger to their direction.

The expression on her face looked like she had seen a ghost. She grab my hand and speed walked to the nearest empty table.

"Kalisha, slow down," I tell her and she stopped "why are you acting like this? What's going on?" I asks her.

She sits down and let out a heavy sigh. Jymia and I sit down as well.

"The couple you just saw, aren't really a couple." She tells me.

"What?" I asks, raising a concerning brow at her.

"They're not actually a couple, they are just sex partners. Also they are Mogba-Moyas, which means they're uninvited guests." She explains.

"Okay... But why were you running and hiding from them?" I asks.

"I used to be in a serious relationship with the guy." She revealed.

I am shocked, before I could ask even more questions, her ex-boyfriend comes to our table. He looks extravagant, wearing a fancy zebra print Dashiki with black jeans and shiny brown shoes. He got the most devilish black eyes I've ever laid my pupils on. He has a nice fade on his beard with a pointy goatee and a slim mustache. Underneath his nose is a U-shaped nose piercing, making him look like a bull ready to release steam. He is bulky and has a nice figure. There are diamonds pierced on his ears. His hair is curly and shaped in a medium sized Afro.

"Look who we got here" he said with a smirk on his face.

Kalisha scoffs, while Jymia is giving him the puppy eyes.

"Who is this guy?" I ask her.

"Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Dadi." He said.

I started to burst out in laughter after hearing his name. He looks confused on why I am laughing.

"Why are you laughing? Did I say or do anything funny?" He asks, his face is starting to frown.

"It's your name, Dadi." I replied.

"Yeah, so what? I don't see what the comedic value is." He said, crossing his arms and pouting his lips.

"Is Dadi your actual name?" I asks.

"No, his real name is David. But he calls himself Dadi, because he sleeps with a lot of women. Anytime they have sex with him, they always call him Daddy." She reveals, giving him a disgusted face.

"Damn right, sweetheart. Women love calling me Daddy. But I had to shorten it to Dadi with double D's and one I, because it sounds more sexier. Plus I hate my real name, it sounds like a white boy name. I want to know what your name is, since you find my name so amusing." He said.

"My name is N" I tell him.

He sucks his teeth.

"You're saying my name is bad, when your name is just a letter. What does the N stand for?" He asks.

"I don't know" I replied.

"I rest my case" he said.

"So why are you here? No one invited you to the Owanbe. What happened to the woman you were with?" She asks in a deadpan tone.

"Just because I wasn't invited, doesn't mean I can't celebrate your mother's birthday party. Plus I never miss a Owambe party. Also the woman I came with was another one of the plethora of women I'd fucked. She was a good fuck and she sucked my massive koko real good. But I had to let her go, because she was no use to me anymore. Plus I need a new woman I could mingle with." He explains in a cocky tone.

"Hey Dadi" Jymia said in a seductive tone and giving him a wink.

"Oh hey, Jymia right?" He asks.

She crossed her arms and let out a huff of disappointment. She pours herself some Hennessy and sips on it to calm herself. Kalisha rolled her eyes, then she saw someone special at the corner of her eye.

"OH MY GOD... Shani arrived!" Kalisha said out loud and squealed.

She and Jymia got up to meet with Shani. I wanted to go with her, but Dadi blocks me and takes me to the kitchen.

********

"Jealous" by Fireboy DML plays.

We arrive to the kitchen. The kitchen is huge and spotless. There is a lot of space to move around. The fridge is massive and technology friendly; it has a touchscreen option to pour water, ice, listen to music, take a picture, and video record. There is a lot of food and drinks on the table. There is no mess or dirt to be seen.

There's another being in the kitchen drinking alcohol from the bottle. He has a strange blueish-purple skin color with red eyes and pink lips. His hair is short and nappy as mine. He is wearing a blue suit and black suit dress pants with clean black shoes. He is not as bulky as Dadi, but he is fit and slim.

Dadi coughs. The guy stops drinking and pays attention to him.

"Dadi se ke ou? Kijan li pral ye? Mwen pa t 'konnen ou te envite nan Owanbe la (Dadi is that you? How is it going? I didn't know you were invited to the Owanbe)." He said in a language I haven't heard before.

"Who is this and why did you drag me here?" I asks.

"My name is Ahti. I am a proud Haitian, who speaks the best Haitian Creole out of anyone from Virginia. Also I love to drink." He said, gulping more of the alcohol he was drinking.

"Ahti, this is N. N, this is Ahti. He is my best friend and the one I turn to whenever I am looking for a bad bitch to fuck." He tells us both.

"That didn't answer my question. Why did you drag me to the kitchen?" I asks.

Dadi touch my shoulders and looked into my eyes.

"I saw you walking here with my girl or should I say ex-girlfriend. Usually I don't get jealous or angry about some guy with a girl I fucked, but seeing you with her made me feel fire in my stomach." He explains.

"Well, why do you care so much? You said yourself that you sleep with plenty of women. Why does seeing me with her get you angry?" I asks.

"Because she was the first and only woman I truly loved. It pisses me off that she is now in a relationship with a guy like you." He said.

"What do you mean a guy like me?" I asks, starting to get irritated by him.

He doesn't say anything to me. All he does is smirk and chuckle at me. He pats me on the face and backs away.

"Calm down Mr. N, there's no need to get angry at a Owanbe. Isn't that right Ahti?" He asks.

"Ou toujou gen bon frè (You are always right my brother)." Ahti replied.

"Go ahead and have fun with Kalisha. I'm going to find my lucky lady for tonight. I'll deal with you later." He said, giving me a menacing chuckle.

"Babay (Bye)" Ahti said, grabbing his bottle.

They both leave the kitchen and I'm scratching my head on what I just witnessed. But I shake it off and return to Kalisha.

"Beginning" by Joeboy plays.

"Where have you been? My mother is about to come in thirty minutes. Shani and I have to wait for her arrive, so that we could walk and dance right beside her." Kalisha said with concern.

"Dadi took me to the kitchen." I replied.

"Why would he do that? What does he want from you?" She asks.

"Well, he introduced to me this guy named Ahti. He was saying how he was jealous that I am in a relationship with you." I explained.

"Chei! What a piece of kaka (shit). You shouldn't listen to those foolish guys, especially Dadi. He's the one that broke up with me and shattered my heart. I don't know why he is getting jealous when he sleeps with so many women. God, he makes me vex." She tells me, rubbing her head to calm down.

"Are you alright?" I asks with concern.

"Yeah, I'm alright. I shouldn't vex over my ex. Plus my mom is coming soon. I can't wait for you to meet her. You will love her." She tells me.

"Do you want to dance real quick before your mom arrives?" I asks.

"Yeah, I would love that." She replied.

"Off Lagos" by Mayorkun plays.

A lot of people are on the dance floor. We started to dance to the rhythm. Locking eyes on each other. Moving my feet in a steady pace and free-styling my dance moves. I'm not the best dancer, but I know how to move. Kalisha is a expert at this as she is sashaying her body all around and dancing with a lot more confidence than me. But we both had a good time dancing with each other.

The DJ lowers the volume and starts to speak. Everyone stopped what they were doing and paid attention.

"Awọn iyaafin ati ọmọdebinrin, Ayaba Gugu n de ni iṣẹju marun. Jọwọ gba ijoko rẹ Mo fẹ ẹnikẹni ti o ni ibatan pẹlu rẹ lati duro de e nipasẹ ẹnu-ọna (Ladies and gentlemen, Queen Gugu is arriving in five minutes. Please take your seat. I want anyone related to her to wait for her by the door)." He said.

The DJ turns the volume up again. "Water No Get Enemy" by Fela Anikulapo Kuti plays.

"I have to go and wait for her. Do you mind sitting down and waiting for me?" She asks.

"I don't mind" I replied.

"Thanks boo" She said, giving me a quick kiss on the lips.

She went to the door and so as Shani, who looked nice in her pink Aso Ebi, pink gele, and perfectly done makeup.

I noticed Dadi staring at me, giving me that same devious smirk. Ahti is right next to him drinking himself to death. But I ignore them and focus on the door, awaiting her arrival.

The door opens and everyone starts to cheer.
