Chapter 28 - Assembly

Block-8, Block-8 just got three flags. You can find them on the southwestern part of the map. I repeat, southwestern part of the...

Another broadcast erupted throughout the Inside as Red set to work on his solo plan.

I wonder why this place is called the Inside? Was it because of the fact that it's underground? It is, in fact, underground, right? Red wondered as he looked down from the tree he scaled.

"This should do it." Red evilly grinned at his foolproof plan. "Now we wait."

Red patiently watched the three workers who obtained the flags as they exited the clearing. He did multiple run-throughs in his mind, making him feel rather confident about the plan. His plan was simple: knock all of them unconscious and take the flags from them.

The net that trapped the boy dangled loosely from the tree as Red got hold of it. Grabbing the piece of sharp metal from his pocket, he set to work cutting the main rope, one fiber after another, the net started giving way. "I know I just pickpocketed this piece of metal from Gadge, but this turned out better than I expected. When did he find the time to sharpen this to this extent?" Red wondered.

"Oh well, at least it gets the job done."

*snap!*

The net with the boy inside it finally gave way. Red was just on time!

No sooner had the net fell along with the boy, the three workers were already directly underneath it, taking the brunt of the boy's weight dropping at them at nine and eight-tenths of a meter per second. Before they could recover from their fall, Curl and Gadge emerged from the thick shrubs and latched their powered tasers on the workers' necks. Their eyes rolled out as the steady buzzing sound of the taser knocked them out cold.

Red jumped from the tree. "You didn't have to do that." Red scratched his head. "I was supposed to hit them on the neck so they would faint painlessly.. but you just had to fry them with electricity."

"We thought as much. That's why we figured that we'd do a little um, assurance that they won't wake up?" Gadge said as he pulled out the three flags from the workers. "I pity this kid though. He just wanted to get a flag for his block and all, but what he received so far was suffering."

"That won't make me leave one flag for him, though," Red said without a hint of guilt. "I did consider saving him after I cut off the ropes but... you just had to knock all of them out."

"Just... you don't have to rub it in so much, Red, we already feel bad about it."

"Don't take it to heart. The next time we steal a flag, I'll tell you the whole plan so you won't jump in and mess things up." Red made a mental note as he told them.

"Yup! Don't go leaving us from your plans." Curl warmly smiled as she went up to Red, grabbing his hand.

"Ahh~ here we go again." Gadge sighed. "I've gotten all their tasers and their bags. I'll carry all these items so you can enjoy FLIRTING with each other." Gadge sarcastically complained.

"I'll get the bags. You can carry the flags since they aren't that heavy." Red offered. "And we're not flirting Gadge. I told you, you can hold my hand too if you want." He continued teasing him.

"I'm not going to indulge in that creepy offer." Gadge shivered at the thought. "Anyways let's get... "

Block-16, Block-16 just got three flags. You can find them on the southwestern part of the map. I repeat, southwestern part of the... The broadcast finally started.

.....

City Area, Northeastern part of the Inside.

... of the map. I repeat, Block-16, Block-16...

Cat peeked from her hiding place once again. "Block-16? Wait... Red already got three flags? That's nice." She smiled.

"That said, when would they leave?" Cat asked herself.

It had been an hour ever since Cat started hiding from the group. The group didn't know that someone else was watching them as they started removing their t-shirt and grilling some sort of meat on their bonfire. "Let's eat up before setting off. Man! These premium cuts from that artificial supermarket were heaven-sent! Who would've thought we get to eat luxurious stuff during a mock battle!"

"Yeah! It's a feast!"

"I call dibs on the 'feeley mig-non' or whatever he called it!"

"Tenderloin's mine!"

Cat's stomach growled as she watched the men sprinkle salt and pepper on the meat. Although she had her share of cupped noodles this morning, it wasn't enough for her. "Let's stop thinking about food, Cat! Now that they're preoccupied with cooking, let's obtain those flags and get away from here."

"That's right! What matters most are those flags!" Cat clenched her fists as she steeled her resolve.

*groooowl*

"WHO"S THAT?!" The man in charge of feeding the fire stood up after hearing the loud stomach growl.

Cat covered her mouth as her body got rigid in fear. If anyone sees her, it would be over. She stayed still as she hoped that the men won't notice her because if they did, it'd be the end of her scout, let alone the plan.

"Oh, it's just me!!! HAHA!" The man guffawed.

Amidst the laughter that erupted, Cat sneaked around the camp and arrived at the tent that was overlaid with traps inside... or so that's what they said. In her mind, she was just relieved that she remained inconspicuous to the workers.

After grabbing a few items from the other tents like toothbrushes, shaving cream, and hand sanitizer, she positioned herself a few meters from the tent with the flags inside. She breathed in, focusing on her main objective before bombarding the tent with the objects and activating the traps in the process.

*RIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNGGGG!!!!*

An alarm clock suddenly rang, drowning the noise of the lighthearted men who were just about to eat their early dinner. Cat grabbed the two flags inside and jumped out of the building, landing on the same rooftop where she was an hour ago. She was so fast that no one even caught a glimpse of her.

"Now, let's get out of here," Cat said.

But something in her guts kept telling her to go back, telling her to get something that she really needed aside from the flags.

By guts, it meant her stomach.

Cat quickly scaled the perimeter of the building by jumping from roof to roof. She then entered the opposite part of the building and directly headed to the center of their camp. After seeing the almost cooked meat, her mouth watered.

"It was worth going back." Cat gleefully muttered, grabbing all the meat and putting it into a plastic bag. She also didn't forget to acquire a few matches before setting off. "We could get wood later... or maybe the others would find a gas stove so we could really cook these!"

"Time to head back."

As the artificial sky turned into an orange tint, marking the gap between sunset and twilight, a figure could be seen hopping from one roof to the other while balancing two flags on hand. Screams of despair echoed from the building where the figure was, a few seconds ago.

"Wait? Where do we meet up again?" The figure asked herself as she snacked on a fine piece of meat.

....

Starting Point, Southeastern part of the Inside.

"This is boring. When will they get back?" Scar lay down on the concrete floor as he stared at the greyish ceiling. "Do we just wait here?"

"Pretty much," Blond muttered, setting down mattresses and blankets on the floor. "We've been tasked to set up camp so we have to get this ready. As soon as they return here, we should have some food."

"I got some canned foods from the grocery store on the first floor of this building. We could also use the stove in the restaurant near this room." Freckles muttered, setting down canned foods on the floor.

"What took you so long?" Blond asked.

"Sorry, there was a huge group who got into the grocery store first so I had to wait for them to leave. They got most of the meat but other than that, they didn't take anything worth mentioning."

"Were there anyone else on the first floor? I know this room is a pretty safe place but we should still keep our guards up for intruders." Blond asked.

"I didn't see anyone else."

After Red assigned them of finding a base, Blond's group set off towards the place with the most buildings. There, they found an abandoned supermarket that Blond chose as their base. Since everyone would be so focused on getting food from the groceries, they won't bother checking the rest of the supermarket. Not only was the place too risky, but it's also a waste of time to search it. That's why it was the ideal spot for the group.

Blond's group explored the supermarket until they found a secluded room with nothing in it. It was probably designed for storage use.

"Red told us to meet again near the staircase, right? Should we go there now?" Scar suggested. He was itching to go out and walk around due to his boredom.

"Yeah, we'll head out as soon as we set this up. After that, we'll lock the place up. with chains and a padlock. That way, no one would intrude in our camp."

"Sounds like a good idea."
