Those people live with prolonged trauma their whole life. Some managed to recover themselves and move on with life, but the bad events would continue to haunt them for life ... in the form of memories.
If indeed Vega was subjected to abuse or violence that made her very traumatized and wanted to forget about it ... shouldn't she be grateful that she got that luxury to forget about them?
If she pushed herself and finally remembered what happened in the past ... and then found out that everything was so heartbreaking, would she be able to be happy?
