Chapter 35 - 34 - Chess match

In the student council room of Kuoh academy there were three people currently inside.

Two were bespectacled female beauties while the other was a stoic looking handsome male. The females were precisely the president and vice president of Kuoh Academy, Souna Shitori and Tsubaki Shinra.

As for the handsome male, he was none other than the newest prince of the school. The cool prince, Giyu Uchiha.

Why is he called the cool prince one might ask? Well not only is because he is the most attractive male in the school but in contrast to the other prince of the academy, Kiba Yuuto who was kind, sociable, and charming. Giyu Uchiha was usually calm, stoic, and indifferent. Only answering those around him in few words.

Although he was never mean to anyone and is quite nice, there was just an air around him that made students not want to approach him. Though it doesn't leave a negative image, on the contrary the air around him made everyone else feel like they weren't good enough to be in his presence. This only led to the students adoring him from afar.

In actuality this was actually caused by Giyu himself in order for him to move freely. He made a necklace with his sacred gear [Armed Creation] in which it passively emits an aura in which makes students want to avoid him but make it so it doesn't leave a negative impact on them.

The necklace only affects those that are normal humans and made it so even Sona and the rest of the devils wouldn't be able to sense it. Also as a precaution he made it so the affect would be limited or stopped in the presence of the heiresses' or their queens.

---

Now inside the student council room, Giyu was inwardly cursing as he was in a chess match with Souna.

As for how he got into one, well it was quite random. A week and a half had already passed since the start of the school year and Giyu hadn't done anything special. Other than getting above average grades he didn't do anything too eye catching.

Even so, just after class ended and was time for lunch break he was suddenly invited by Tsubaki to the student council room. And when he entered he saw Souna in front of a table that had a chess set already set up.

He was then asked for a chess match by her which concludes how the current situation came about.

(a/n: it might look forced but please I have an answer...

Sona is waifu so fuck you)

---

"So I take it that you know the rules of chess, Uchiha-san?" Sona said as she adjusted her glasses.

"Indeed I do" Giyu casually replied as he looked at the chess pieces set up. His pieces were the black ones as Sona's were the white chess pieces. 'So she will be the one to start it' he thought.

He was cursing a little in his head because he good but not too good. He should be at the level of Sona but if he were to lose on purpose she would immediately know, if he were to win, she would be his fiancé which he wouldn't mind but the thing he does mind is that she would most likely ask him to join her peerage.

"So it seems the first move is yours to make, president" Giyu said

"Yes it is" Sona said as she moved her pawn two tiles forward.

Giyu also moved one of his pawns but he only did so so he could free his knight.

"So Uchiha-san, do you have any clubs you want to join?" Sona said as she moved another chess piece.

"No" Giyu said as he moved his knight piece to kill one of her pawns.

"Oh, and why not?" Sona asked calmly not bothered that she lost one of her chess pieces.

"I would rather spend my free time at home, I have things to do after all" Giyu stated

"Hmm, but from the documents you have given the school, it seems that you live alone. What could it be that makes you so busy after all we also don't allow students to work?" Sona asked trying to corner him.

Though Giyu only stared at her a little before his mouth curved up ever so slightly as he said " I actually do stock trading. My foster father is actually a well known stock trader, he often taught them to me in hopes of inheriting his company" He said.

This wasn't entirely wrong, his legal gaurdian, Azazel had owned a company. Not only that his company is one of the richest ones in the human world and he also is a stock trader by a different name. He also adopted Giyu with said name, thus creating a perfect alibi. I mean how could Azazel have so many rare paintings and different kind of one of a kind items that cost millions of USD that were said to be bought by mysterious buyers? Of course the mysterious buyer was Azazel himself.

"...Ah yes, forgive me. I had indeed forgot about that" Sona said after a pause. She had forgotten that the school was actually one of the more prestigious side so there were bound to be students from strong backgrounds. She had completely forgotten because Giyu was so indifferent about everything.

"But would you be willing to join the student council, Uchiha-san?" Sona said as she moved one of her bishops to corner his king.

"...I don't know...would you be willing to give me some time to think about it, president?" Giyu said as he switched his King with his Rook.

"Of course Uchiha-san" Sona said as she smiled slightly as she moved her queen piece.

"Very well, also president. Please just call me Giyu instead I dislike formalities very much, you too Vice-president" Giyu said blocking Sona's Queen with one of his Bishops.

"Mm, very well you as well Giyu-san please call me Souna as well. We are peers after all" Sona said taking the bate and taking one of Giyu's bishops.

"I as well Giyu-san, please call me Tsubaki" Tsubaki said from behind Sona. To which Giyu only nodded his head.

Now Giyu was stuck between a choice. He could either end the game now by winning in one fell swoop or throwing the game to Sona. One one hand he can win while the other he could throw the game But he thought of the possible outcomes from each situation.

If he were to win, Sona would definitely try to ask him a few more times to see if his win was a fluke and if he wins the other matches, she would definitely reveal her identity because of the promise of making the one who wins against her in a chess match her fiancé. He could deliberately lose by then but then she would be more suspicious of him.

While on the other hand, if he were to throw the current match she would only be minorly annoyed versus throwing the match if he already won against her once. Then again he could just keep throwing the match or drawing with her. This was the most probable action as it could buy him more time until Issei gets ressurected to a devil.

He made up his mind as he moved his Rook that was protecting his king as he used it to get rid of Sona's Queen but also left his King vulnerable to which Sona took advantage of as planned.

"...Checkmate" Sona said as she adjusted her glasses though she paused slightly.

"Well, it was my loss Souna-kaichou." Giyu said bowing before turning to look at the clock on the wall. "Well, I must be going now Souna-kaichou, Tsubaki-fuku kaichou. It's almost time for class" Giyu said as he got up and nodded his head towards Tsubaki before leaving.

----

After Giyu left Tsubaki looked at Souna and said " Sona-sama, should we also prepare to get going?" She asked.

But she was only met with silence as Sona continued to stare at the chess set in front of her in a daze.

"Sona-sama?" Tsubaki questioned.

"...on purpose" Sona muttered.

"What was that, Sona-sama?" Tsubaki asked

"He threw the match on purpose..." Sona said as she adjusted her glasses. "He could have won in one fell swoop but he chose not to"

"...!" Tsubaki was shocked as no words left her mouth. All she could do was look at the chess set in front of her with wide eyes while her mouth was gaped.

"To think he had the abilities to win against you Sona-sama" Tsubaki said shocked.

"Maybe, but it might have been a fluke, thought that is most likely not the case. After all we should be on similar levels, we were both able to attack and defend from each other but near the end he changed his tactic." Sona said.

"Interesting..." Sona said with a small curve in her mouth. She was somewhat thrilled she found someone that could match her in chess.
