Giving up.
Oh God knows how much I hate the idea of giving up. I'm a determined and ambitious person. I struggled but never gave up and that's why I'd go on this chapter and say never give up on what you believe in.
We just need to be patient and hustle. Because in the end, everything will come to a place when the time comes. We just need to wait and never back down.
If you do believe that you are right then never back down from your opinion. If you're disapproved by the other side never change for their satisfaction. If you failed, never give up on trying again.
We don't have to stop trying just because we failed. If you failed that never meant you are a failure. A state of being is not who you are. You don't have to stop just because you feel like not doing it.
In fact, if you care about something so bad you'd never stop trying.
I've been through many but that what made me grow stronger. I admit that I sometimes think of just giving up and get these burdens off my shoulders. But then I just realize, I've placed much more burden on myself by giving up.
Because later I'd regret why I hadn't taken a second thought before deciding to just give in. I'd regret why I hadn't try. So I never gave up no matter how hard the thing was.
When I once was through such a hard time I had a person that I cared for so much telling me, "Good things take time so be patient kiddo."
Being me a stubborn brat I just can't handle the idea of not trying. Being wrong and having someone to tell you that you're wrong is a totally other situation.
When you've been warned genuinely about a mistake you've done and been adviced it's important to retort back with a sports spirit and accept the advice. After all, the advice is something good and nice especially when it comes out of concern and care.
Today I'll be sharing one of our work team members experience. She was in middle school back then and was in love with acting. Back then her school held a contest each year. It was the declamation contest.
She participated almost every year. Ever since she was in grade 5. She just held that love for acting. But what was shocking is that she never won. She'd always come as the third place and that was something that she didn't like.
But quite frankly, she didn't care. As long as she got the chance to practice her hobby and show what she's got she was alright and fine with the idea with coming in the 3 places.
At least, that was what she thought.
Year's came by quickly and each year she kept on participating in that contest that was held in their school. The participant must stand on the school's huge stage and act the respective scenario out in front of the whole school.
Actually, the idea of her standing in front of the principal, supervisors, teachers, seniors, and in front of tenths or maybe a hundred students didn't frighten her.
At least, not all the time.
She for sure would panic when the host would call her name out as she stood behind the enormous red curtains of there schools stage.
But as soon as possible, she'd already gather her shit together and muster up her courage to go out on the stage that held hundreds of pairs of eyes staring at her anxiously.
Her class and all of her friends would always end up astonished when the teacher would ask about who'd like to participate this year. And just like every year, she'd shoot her hand up excitingly with a playful grin on her lips.
Nobody could get how she still had the will to try. Not even her friends would get why would she keep trying every year if she'd never win. Her participating was pointless in their eyes.
Though no one ever denied how anxious and excited she'd make the crowd when she stood in front of them.
Even the judges would always grin when the familiar face they came to know would walk up to the stage grinning happily to them. They'd always return back the smile welcoming her warmly. She was one of the students that would always bring up a quite comforting aura along with her even on stage.
She participated in grade 5.
She participated in grade 6.
She participated in grade 7.
She barely participated in grade 8.
Why? She always participated and her class would always depend on her for representing them. But this year she didn't feel like participating only.
She felt like winning.
The day her class teacher collected the names for the qualifications for the contest was the day her dear teacher was shocked. She was shocked seeing her dear student hesitating in raising her hand up.
She never did. She always was so sure and confident that she wanted to participate but this year was different. The whole class went heads over heels when she didn't raise her hand like every year.
Even students from outer classes came asking her but they eventually stopped when seeing her uncomfortable about being asked. That was when her best friend decided that they really needed to have a talk about this.
And in fact, they did.
She confessed. That she didn't want to participate this year because she was afraid. Her friend would knot her eyebrows before asking confused, "Why?"
Again she confessed saying that she was afraid. Afraid that she won't even represent something good this year. Her friend would bug her to say. She finally said that her problem was the new girl.
The new girl that came this year to the school has shaken her self confidence. The new girl was smart, pretty, funny, and competitive.
The new girl claimed that this year she was going to win the declamation contest from the first try.
And so, she felt vulnerable.
She was afraid that the new girl would actually win from the first time while she was there participating for a whole 4 years. She was afraid that she'd look so dumb and people would start comparing her with the new girl.
And that was the last thing she ever wanted.
She was shocked when her best friend burst out laughing and said. "Oh geez, you scared me. That was it? You were scared you'd fail?
Oh girl, you absolutely never saw yourself acting."
Just like that her best friend was there for her and helped through her illusion about being bad at acting or not good enough. Because in fact, she was the only student that didn't give up on acting.
The new girl had expected nothing from her and that she was just a girl who loved acting. But when the qualifications came to chose the participants for the contest the new girl grew shocked seeing her act.
She was so outgoing, fluently speaking and fearless.
That when the new girl turned competitive and ready for a competition.
But she didn't know that girl whom she thought only loved acting was up to competition too and that she wasn't going to back down without a fight. And this time, she was aiming for the first place and putting it right between her eyes.
She worked hard and practiced every day for hours.
And so, the contest day had come. She was a nervous wreck this time.
The contest was hours away and the students that participated were given the classes off so they could practice but she couldn't bring herself to practice.
Her mind was already clouded with her thoughts. She was both determined but a bit pessimistic too. Her dear teacher saw how
her precious student was struggling and so, she decided on having
a little talkie with her.
Her teacher encouraged her and told her to go for it but she never forgot to mention for her too that she loved acting. And that she worked on it for a continuous 4 years willingly and now wasn't the time she gave up.
Just like a striking, her teacher's words hit her as she realized how stupid she was to end up stuck in her thoughts instead of standing up and practicing.
Just like this, she went into an empty classroom, slamming the door shut, and practiced till her voice was perfect and fits exactly as it should be.
Her turn came and she was held number 3. Being herself, she slapped her cheeks lightly and shouted an enthusiastic "Fighting!" to herself.
She went on and walked confidently to the stage mustering each inch of courage she can get out of herself.
The crowd cheered loudly for the familiar face they've come to know as she smiled warmly to them. She bowed politely to the judges before the judge that sat in the middle smiled sweetly to her before she nodded her head gesturing her to start.
She nodded back before carrying on with her performance. It came in a multiple of times where she'd say something funny out the scenario making the crowd laugh. She even said,
"I was broken and lost, " She said and that was part of the scenario. But then she would add with a grin saying, "Well, not precisely."
Even the judges would grin and chuckle at her remarks.
She was relaxed and comfortable on the stage like no student of her age was. At the end of her performance, she'd bowed politely never forgetting her manners before waving to the crowd and grin happily for there loud and encouraging cheering.
She turned around sat beside her best friend as her classmates shoved her playfully and cheered her. She'd smile back and thank them politely. But her eyes lingered on two persons. Her dear teacher and her caring best friend.
Her best friend would mouth her grinning, "I told you you'd make it."
And her teacher would grin at her too before giving her an thumbs up.
She sat back quietly and happily as she waited anxiously for the new girl turn. When it came she found her eyes lingering on the brown-haired new girl.
She sees how she walks up with one of her friends following quietly behind. Her friend that followed up behind would raise up the scenario paper and she realized that the new girl hadn't memorized her lines completely.
That when she knew that new girl wouldn't do so well. As she expected, the new girl hadn't. She stopped on a couple of lines as she trailed off making it clear that she forgot her lines.
But she never denied that new girl wasn't bad for her first time and she did well. However, the results announcing time came and she was so anxious to know what the results were. Her eyes shot open when the host said.
"The first place in the declamation contest is..."
Her heart skipped a beat when her name was shouted. The crowd went suddenly quiet before they shouted cheering her name.
She stopped the tears of happiness and thanked them genuinely. Even after the contest she'd walk through the hallways and have students congrats her and tell her that she did well. She was so happy to get to prove herself and finally win the contest.
She was so happy.
After all, I hope we never give up even in the hardest days of our life. Honestly, I direct this message to my beloved sisters more than anyone else.
"Sometimes I feel like giving up, then I remember that I have so many people to prove wrong."
