Chapter 10 - Old Faces

Vin grabbed a notepad to pretend like he was doing something, a drawing of cloudy night was already there.

A light sigh found it's way out Vin's mouth, innate disappointment was plastered on his face as nothing on this menu was currently impressive. Nevertheless a stream of thoughts quickies moved to the only upgrade area on the menu! The number of points inputted into the upgrading of the system quickly rose from 0 all the way to a grandiose 2500! A resplendent rainbow light only he could see immediately began to shine from the panel.

The number 1 which represent the current system level shone with a white light till its shape was indiscernible and formed a 2. A sense of excitement danced around his mind and high hopes reigned supreme! Curiosity slowly crept in to take out both and reach the top of his feelings, but that wouldn't happen as the rainbow lights began to dim and fade as quickly as it came, like an old light bulb in a weathered home.

A normal panel showed up but was quickly dismissed. Just a measly 2500 points being added to his points amount that had just reached 0.

Not much had changed on the Upgrade panel except the amount to upgrade the system again changed to a fear striking 50000 and the 0 of ??? pages changed to 1 of ???. This second change was ultimately ignored, the right moment to know more wasn't now. 'Open menu..!'

On the panel a grandiose change was revealed before Vin! The addition of Theories, or in other words, an idea that makes up some part of the world. Though in some cases, majestical theories that are unrelated to parts of the world appear, like the Core Theory. Some Theories naturally exist in the universe as a form of you energy you can use to enhance abilities with or even create abilities that would otherwise not exist. Each theory, however, has a near infinite number of ways to understand it, making it a variable across all entities. As it is purely a theory. Theories can be put together and form something entirely new.

This idiot, however, got excited by the wrong thing. You have to know how to comprehend a theory for it to be useful.

Theories though are very important to being able to continue one's rise to power. A foundation must be created from a mastered Theory. That foundation is used to reinforce the soul and body for the next stages.

A truly startling thought spiraled in his mind, 'That means I can receive system assistance in even stuff like this!?' Just the concept of having the system be able to help with even understanding theories was astounding! As only existences past the basic seven tiers do such things.

Like a bulb appeared above his head several ideas that could only be described as arrogant showed up for his next menu. He would have let out a light cackle not for the embarrassment it would bring him being around all these people.

'Ah, maybe I have time to- huh?' His thoughts abruptly cut off by a tap on the shoulder. Turning around he first noticed their long, dual pastel pink and pastel mint hair and flawless snowy skin... at least it was in Vin's eyes. A sweet and genuine smile was on her face, with a slightly below average stature to her name. The name which happened to be Mitzi.

As Vin always thought when face to face with her is that her name does not fit her personality or looks at all. Sweet and bitter do not match together, and she most definitely was sweet in his eyes- and most others. But the more important thoughts on his mind was how he would get past his crippling anxiety around his little childhood friend and crush.

Ignoring his own mind partially and putting on a casual demeanor, "Oh, hey Mitzi, how have you been? Didn't know you were also aiming for this school." But in his mind he's was still thinking what if the way he spoke was awkward or even repulsive? A beet red color slowly enveloped his face, though slowly would be an inaccurate term.

With a voice that was melodic to Vin, she replied, "I've been good! I wanted to join the Golden Rose for years now. So how have you been?" Unlike Vin it was said without a red face she also had a cheery vibe around her that made him more anxious.

"I have… uh… been pretty good. I happened to be lucky enough to be a re-arcaned. Even already got some rumors going on about me." Vin replied back to her, with as much normalcy he could muster. Even laughing towards the end to try to ease the tension in his heart.

...

After conversing for about 10 minutes it could be summed up by Vin was awkward and Mitzi wasn't picking up on it, exchanging numbers with one another, and that Mitzi had an extremely powerful ability that dealt with an energy he couldn't see or understand yet.

Time. The one thing that eventually catches up to everyone and leaves them behind. Except for truly immortal beings of course. She had first demonstrated her magisterial ability by grabbing a soda out of a fracture she created which she called a rift in time, which apparently nothing ages in.

Though once she opened it the aged teacher immediately looked up towards her and ordered her to put it away. To which she immediately obliged and showed off another skill, slowing down time on the small scale by slowing down a pencil she threw and grabbing it before it hit anything.

Vin the red faced prodigy finally began to calm down as he saw Mitzi going back to her seat to chat with some of her friends who had finally finished learning the energy stabilization skill properly.

'Now what was it I was going to do before Lemon came up and started a conversation with me?'

The greatest of clowns, also known as Vin, forgot the entirety of what he was going to do for a few moments till it came back to him with clarity.

'I need to upgrade the Quest Menu! Maybe it can give Gacha Points after the upgrade!'

'All my recently earned points! Go to the upgrade button! I can't wait to see what comes out of this!' A somber emotion was about to flash over his face but he remembered he wasn't alone so he maintained his smile. All the effort into getting 2500 points was suddenly gone. The only thing that comforted him was that the menu that appeared in front of him had begun to change..!

Cracks had begun to spread across the recently opened menu, carrying along a golden light that shone beneath the fractures. A light that reverberated with uniqueness and change. Pieces of the menu began to fall and evaporate into thin air like they were never there to begin with. The intensity of the golden light began to get brighter and brighter as more pieces fell one after another. The speed in which the pieces fell rapidly increasing.

As the final piece fell and disappeared a wave of light washed over Vin, though that light was imperceptible to others, it was practically blinding. That was ignored though as his only and first intent was to see what the newly upgraded menu had in store. With his hopes so high, the difficulty of causing it to crumble was next to none.
